Voice Module - Future Enhancements

Scope

Forward-looking enhancements for voice interaction reliability, streaming resilience, security hardening, and operational observability.

Design Constraints

  • Preserve stable assistant/session interfaces for existing consumers.
  • Keep session state transitions deterministic under equivalent inputs.
  • Ensure auth and safety checks run before privileged voice operations.
  • Keep optional backend features degradable with explicit fallback signaling.

Required Interfaces

Implementation Notes

Session and Streaming Hardening

Priority: High Target: Q3-Q4 2026

  • harden session lifecycle invariants and bounded chunk handling
  • standardize stream teardown and retry/fallback behavior
  • improve deterministic handling of malformed or partial inputs

Security and Auth Hardening

Priority: High Target: Q4 2026

  • strengthen anti-spoof and replay-resistance coverage in auth paths
  • improve security diagnostics for deny decisions and risk signals
  • align failure envelopes for degraded backend/runtime conditions

Operational Hardening

Priority: Medium Target: Q4 2026

  • expand observability for wake-word, intent, and session-state transitions
  • improve diagnostics for browser/telephony reliability incidents
  • harden long-running multi-session behavior and cleanup paths

Performance and Capacity Hardening

Priority: Medium Target: Q1 2027

  • re-baseline STT/TTS and end-to-end latency envelopes by release profile
  • keep queue, cache, and session-resource overhead bounded under sustained load
  • lock benchmark-backed release thresholds for critical voice paths

Test Strategy

  • focused regressions for session lifecycle and streaming edge behavior
  • auth and anti-spoof adversarial regression matrix
  • multi-session concurrency and endurance test coverage
  • benchmark regression gates for STT/TTS, wake-word, and streaming paths

Performance Targets

  • stable p95 and p99 envelopes for representative voice production workloads
  • bounded throughput regressions against release baselines
  • bounded memory and queue growth under sustained multi-session load

Security / Reliability

  • fail closed on invalid session/auth states and unsafe preconditions
  • preserve deterministic auth and session-guard behavior
  • prevent unbounded growth in stream queues and session buffers

Risk Backlog

Risk 1: stream/session divergence under noisy network conditions

Severity: High Signal: inconsistent session teardown/recovery behavior. Mitigation: deterministic state transitions and regression packs.

Risk 2: anti-spoof quality drift

Severity: Medium Signal: increased false-negative or false-positive rates. Mitigation: calibration and scenario-based adversarial tests.

Risk 3: sustained-load resource pressure

Severity: Medium Signal: queue/backlog growth and latency spikes under concurrent sessions. Mitigation: bounded resource controls and endurance regressions.
