Updates Module - Future Enhancements

Scope

  • hardening and refinement of update runtime behavior
  • deterministic reliability improvements for state/patch/rollout paths
  • stronger benchmark-backed guardrails for update pipeline hot paths

Design Constraints

  • update contracts remain backward compatible within major release line.
  • state and rollback outcomes remain explicit and deterministic.
  • degraded patch and migration paths remain observable and non-silent.
  • rollout and scheduler behavior remain bounded and diagnosable.

Required Interfaces

Interface Requirement
state interfaces deterministic transition and rollback semantics
manifest interfaces stable serialization and validation behavior
patch interfaces explicit delta generation/apply behavior
rollout interfaces bounded canary, blue-green, and scheduler behavior

Implementation Notes

  • tighten parity between rollback behavior and update-state diagnostics.
  • standardize incident taxonomy for patch, migration, and rollout classes.
  • expand resilience tests for coordinated update and tenant scheduling workloads.
  • broaden benchmark depth for update orchestration and migration scenarios.

Test Strategy

  • unit and integration suites for state, manifest, patch, and rollout behavior.
  • regressions for rollback, preflight, and migration edge cases.
  • deterministic stress runs for coordinated update and scheduler workloads.
  • release-profile benchmark runs for mapped update targets.

Performance Targets

  • update hot paths remain inside regression budgets.
  • transition, patch, and rollback-sensitive operations remain stable at p95/p99 envelopes.
  • mapped benchmark manifests reach no-missing-case status for release gating.

Security / Reliability

  • maintain strict bounded behavior for update and rollback transitions.
  • preserve explicit failure signaling for manifest, patch, and rollout faults.
  • enforce predictable degradation under orchestration pressure.
  • keep diagnostics actionable for production update incidents.
