Temporal Module - Future Enhancements

Scope

  • hardening and refinement of temporal runtime behavior
  • deterministic reliability improvements for query/lifecycle/conflict paths
  • stronger benchmark-backed guardrails for temporal hot paths

Design Constraints

  • temporal contracts remain backward compatible within major release line.
  • temporal query and version outcomes remain explicit and deterministic.
  • degraded lifecycle and CDC paths remain observable and non-silent.
  • retention/snapshot behavior remains bounded and diagnosable.

Required Interfaces

Interface Requirement
query interfaces deterministic as-of and interval semantics
versioning interfaces stable system-time and valid-time lifecycle contracts
lifecycle interfaces explicit retention/snapshot transition behavior
consistency interfaces bounded conflict-resolution and CDC/compression behavior

Implementation Notes

  • tighten parity between temporal query semantics and lifecycle diagnostics.
  • standardize incident taxonomy for snapshot/retention/conflict classes.
  • expand resilience tests for prolonged concurrent temporal mutation/query traffic.
  • broaden benchmark depth for advanced temporal history workloads.

Test Strategy

  • unit and integration suites for temporal query/version/lifecycle paths.
  • regressions for snapshot faults, retention edge behavior, and conflict races.
  • deterministic stress runs for sustained bitemporal write and history-query load.
  • release-profile benchmark runs for mapped temporal targets.

Performance Targets

  • temporal hot paths remain inside regression budgets.
  • query/history-sensitive operations remain stable at p95/p99 envelopes.
  • mapped benchmark manifests reach no-missing-case status for release gating.

Security / Reliability

  • maintain strict bounded behavior for temporal lifecycle transitions.
  • preserve explicit failure signaling for query and lifecycle faults.
  • enforce predictable degradation under retention/snapshot pressure.
  • keep diagnostics actionable for production temporal incidents.
