Scraper Module - Future Enhancements

Scope

  • hardening and refinement of scraper ingestion runtime behavior
  • deterministic reliability improvements for fetch/extract/evaluate/write paths
  • stronger benchmark-backed guardrails for extraction-oriented hot paths

Design Constraints

  • scraper contracts remain backward compatible within major release line.
  • fetch/extraction/evaluation outcomes remain explicit and deterministic.
  • degraded/fallback paths remain observable and non-silent.
  • provenance construction remains mandatory for all write paths.

Required Interfaces

Interface Requirement
fetch interfaces bounded static/JS/API fetch semantics
extraction interfaces deterministic form/result extraction behavior
evaluation interfaces explicit quality/relevance and fallback outcomes
writer interfaces provenance-safe metadata construction and write signaling

Implementation Notes

  • tighten parity between fetch policy decisions and extraction readiness β€” evidence: include/scraper/scraper_render_contract.h, include/scraper/scraper_burst_controller.h
  • standardize diagnostics for crawler/evaluator/writer incident classes β€” evidence: include/scraper/scraper_diagnostics.h
  • [~] expand resilience tests for prolonged multi-source ingest traffic β€” evidence: tests/scraper/test_scraper_burst_hardening_focused.cpp (SCR-17..20)
  • [~] broaden benchmark depth for dedicated scraper pipeline paths β€” evidence: benchmarks/scraper/bench_scraper_pipeline_depth.cpp (pending)

Test Strategy

  • unit and integration suites for plugin/config/api/search/evaluator/writer behavior.
  • regressions for malformed content, pagination anomalies, and write failures.
  • deterministic stress runs for burst crawl and extraction-heavy workloads.
  • release-profile benchmark runs for mapped scraper targets.

Performance Targets

  • extraction-oriented scraper hot paths remain inside regression budgets.
  • extraction/write-sensitive operations remain stable at p95/p99 envelopes.
  • mapped benchmark manifests reach no-missing-case status for release gating.

Security / Reliability

  • maintain strict URL and policy validation before fetch execution.
  • preserve explicit failure signaling for fetch/parse/evaluate/write faults.
  • enforce bounded behavior under high crawl pressure and noisy content.
  • keep diagnostics actionable for production scraper incidents.
