User Storage Encrypted Module - Future Enhancements

Scope

  • hardening and refinement of encrypted user-storage runtime behavior
  • stronger reliability and diagnosability for backend and scheduler paths
  • benchmark-backed release guardrails for encrypted storage hot paths

Design Constraints

  • backend and scheduler contracts remain backward compatible within the major line.
  • failures in mount, unmount, derivation, and rotation paths remain explicit.
  • tier orchestration remains bounded to configured storage levels.
  • host-environment dependency remains visible rather than hidden by silent fallback.

Required Interfaces

Interface Requirement
backend interfaces deterministic availability, mount-state, mount, and unmount behavior
key interfaces bounded derivation and rotation semantics
orchestration interfaces explicit level coordination and lifecycle behavior

Implementation Notes

  • tighten parity between backend failure handling and operator-visible diagnostics.
  • deepen coverage for scheduler recovery and callback failure behavior.
  • broaden integration scenarios for encrypted storage lifecycle round trips.
  • expand benchmarks beyond current mount-latency emphasis where justified.

Test Strategy

  • unit and integration suites for backend, key, and orchestration behavior.
  • regressions for host-environment absence, invalid paths, and scheduler edge cases.
  • deterministic lifecycle tests for full encrypted storage round trips.
  • release-profile benchmark runs for mapped encrypted-storage targets.

Performance Targets

  • encrypted storage hot paths remain inside regression budgets.
  • mount lifecycle latency and dispatch overhead remain stable at p95/p99 envelopes.
  • mapped benchmark manifests reach no-missing-case status for release gating.

Security / Reliability

  • preserve explicit failure signaling for backend and scheduler faults.
  • maintain bounded failure propagation across storage levels.
  • enforce predictable degradation when host encrypted-storage prerequisites are missing.
  • keep diagnostics actionable for production encrypted-storage incidents.
