Timeseries Module - Future Enhancements

Scope

  • hardening and refinement of timeseries runtime behavior
  • deterministic reliability improvements for ingest/query/lifecycle paths
  • stronger benchmark-backed guardrails for timeseries hot paths

Design Constraints

  • timeseries contracts remain backward compatible within major release line.
  • ingest and query outcomes remain explicit and deterministic.
  • degraded lifecycle and remote-write paths remain observable and non-silent.
  • encryption and retention behavior remains bounded and diagnosable.

Required Interfaces

Interface Requirement
ingest interfaces deterministic point, batch, and flush behavior
query interfaces stable range, downsampling, and aggregation semantics
lifecycle interfaces explicit retention and key-rotation behavior
integration interfaces bounded remote-write and metrics behavior

Implementation Notes

  • tighten parity between adaptive flush behavior and ingest diagnostics.
  • standardize incident taxonomy for retention, encryption, and remote-write classes.
  • expand resilience tests for prolonged mixed ingest/query pressure.
  • broaden benchmark depth for timeseries integration and lifecycle scenarios.

Test Strategy

  • unit and integration suites for ingest, query, and lifecycle behavior.
  • regressions for buffer pressure, encrypted chunk faults, and remote-write validation.
  • deterministic stress runs for concurrent timeseries ingest/query load.
  • release-profile benchmark runs for mapped timeseries targets.

Performance Targets

  • timeseries hot paths remain inside regression budgets.
  • ingest, range-query, and flush-sensitive operations remain stable at p95/p99 envelopes.
  • mapped benchmark manifests reach no-missing-case status for release gating.

Security / Reliability

  • maintain strict bounded behavior for ingest and lifecycle transitions.
  • preserve explicit failure signaling for flush, retention, and remote-write faults.
  • enforce predictable degradation under sustained pressure.
  • keep diagnostics actionable for production timeseries incidents.
