Adds Polish (pl) as an interface language on top of the i18n infrastructure from #34.
This PR is stacked on #34: the first commit (033248d) is that PR's head, untouched, followed by i18n: add Polish (pl) interface and a merge of current main (be14248). Once #34 merges, only the Polish commit is left to review. Happy to rebase whenever needed.
crates/ui-egui/src/i18n/pl.tsv: 1,232 entries, exactly the key set of uk.tsv.
i18n.rs: Language::Pl (label "Polski", locales pl, pl-PL, pl_PL.UTF-8); lookups go through the catalog of the language being drawn.
Preferences lists Polski; app.language accepts pl.
ATTRIBUTION.md, docs/localization-parity.md and ROADMAP.md list the new catalog.
count() now takes the Ukrainian and the Polish forms as [one, few, many] arrays instead of three positional Ukrainian arguments; its call sites and recovered() pass both. Polish needs its own rule: 1 is the only "one" (21 takes the "many" form, 21 slajdów, where Ukrainian has 21 слайд), and 2–4 / 22–24 are "few". Ukrainian output is unchanged and its test still passes. #110 changes the same function in a different way, so the two will conflict; I will adapt to whichever shape lands.
Clean room
Every entry is written from the meaning of the English label in ordinary Polish computing vocabulary. No Microsoft PowerPoint (or other product) localisation, string table or translated UI was consulted or copied. I am a native Polish speaker; the catalog was drafted with Claude (AI agent) and no second native speaker has reviewed it yet.
New: Polish locales, lookup, context keys (@ribbon:Insert vs Insert), unchanged document data and a ui.json round trip; Polish count forms including 12–14, 21, 22, 112 and 122; the document fallback font covers every letter of the catalog plus ĄąĆćĘꣳŃńÓ󌜏źŻż„” without system fonts.
The ignored preview test also renders the Polish editor, Preferences and Insert Table views; I inspected the editor view locally (nothing is committed).
Ran locally on Rust 1.95.0, after merging main: cargo test -p deckcraft-ui-egui (24 passed, 1 ignored). Before the merge also cargo fmt --all --check, cargo clippy -p deckcraft-ui-egui --all-targets -- -D warnings and cargo xtask assets (39 files attributed). I did not run the full cargo xtask ci (workspace tests and the WASM gate).
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added Ukrainian and Polish interface translations, with English fallback and a language selector offering System, English, Ukrainian, and Polish.
System selection follows supported Ukrainian or Polish system or browser locales; explicit desktop language choices are saved and take effect immediately.
Translated text across menus, dialogs, toolbars, editing views, file pickers, status messages, and default slide prompts.
Changing the interface language does not alter presentation content or custom prompts.
Documentation
Updated attribution, localization, and roadmap documentation to reflect available languages and remaining translation work.
A 1,232-entry catalog with the same key set as the Ukrainian one from storytold#34,
registered as Language::Pl ("Polski", code pl, locales pl-*). Written from
the meaning of the English labels; no other product's localisation was
consulted.
count() takes the Ukrainian and Polish forms as [one, few, many]; Polish
uses the "many" form for 21, unlike Ukrainian. Catalog tests now cover
both languages and require identical key sets.

Keeps both sides: main's Selection Pane rewrite (the old pane's tr()
wrapping is dropped with it), canvas Lock/Unlock (translated), the
pasteboard-region slide textures (with the placeholder prompt), and the
progress-doc rows from both. Adds Polish and Ukrainian entries for the 40
labels main added (Unlock, IME commands, new preset shapes) so the
catalog tests pass.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
main replaced the start screen with the File view (storytold#344) and moved
export into SlideApp::export_as; this takes both, keeps the translated
"Exported {path}" status, and adds Polish and Ukrainian entries for the
three labels the new File tab commands need (Print, Info, Print…).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
main labels transition options per transition (storytold#366); the Effect Options
menu translates the new labels, the catalog test checks them, and both
catalogs gain the 35 new option labels. copy_opts in the transition
renderer carries the placeholder prompt through.
Keeps both changes to the ROADMAP and gaps.md status lines (main's two
ROADMAP lines become one), the translated Alt Text heading on main's
draft-preserving alt text field, and adds Polish and Ukrainian names for
the new Color At command.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Keeps both sides of the ROADMAP and gaps.md status lines, translates the
new text-editing context menu items and main's command palette items
(now built by palette_items), and adds Polish and Ukrainian names for
the new Peek Out, Sink Down and Contract effects.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Takes main's new UI (Edit Points, Size and Position, Paste Special, the
icon gallery, glow colour and transparency, text fill, deck-wide
comments, picture background removal) with its labels going through the
interface catalog, fx_slider labels included. Adds Polish and Ukrainian
entries for the 50 labels main introduced (motion paths, point editing,
fonts, comments). Progress docs keep both sides; the gaps list no longer
re-adds the IME gap that storytold#101 closed.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Takes main's new UI (theme file filter, decorative alt text, Recolor and
Picture Styles galleries, Picture Border, table cell alignment, the
sectioned and virtualised slide sorter and outline) with its labels and
gallery names going through the interface catalog, and adds Polish and
Ukrainian entries for the 23 labels main introduced. Progress docs keep
both sides; the gaps list drops the table-cell IME gap main closed.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Split ribbon buttons are named for screen readers by their translated
tooltip, and the SmartArt and Action Settings commands main added get
Polish and Ukrainian names.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Takes main's Zoom dialog, custom show Show button, media-controls
setting, handout and notes masters, scrolling notes pane, presenter
buttons and the palette's argument filter, with their labels going
through the interface catalog (the presenter view's button helper
included), and adds Polish and Ukrainian entries for the labels main
introduced.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Takes main's customizable Quick Access Toolbar and chart menu groups,
with the toolbar's tooltips, menus and item names and the chart type
names going through the interface catalog; qat.rs joins the literal
translation check, and the toolbar's labels get Polish and Ukrainian
entries.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Takes main's spelling work (Ignore All, Add to Dictionary, repeated
words, the Language dialog's dictionary list and Do Not Check Spelling,
the status bar's proofing language, AutoCorrect Options) with its labels
going through the interface catalog, and adds Polish and Ukrainian
entries for them and for main's new table and variant commands.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Takes main's external-file handling, per-shape fill transparency,
animation preview, Ink to Shape, marked effect options and the animated
canvas textures, keeping the interface-language key and translated
placeholder prompts in the texture cache and both texture test modules;
labels main added go through the catalog with Polish and Ukrainian
entries.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Takes main's Font and Paragraph context menu items, Grid and Guides,
picture or texture fill, Tabs, the paragraph dialog command and the
Thesaurus pane, with their labels going through the interface catalog,
and adds Polish and Ukrainian entries for the labels main introduced
(guides, Find and Replace, Compare and revisions, smooth corners).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Takes main's Change Picture, picture backgrounds applied to all slides
and the rich-text notes editor, with their labels and hints going
through the interface catalog. Progress-log rows from both sides stay.
Our texture language test module becomes language_tests next to main's
new tests module.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Takes main's 3-D options in Format Shape with the translated Reset
Effects button, passes main's new skip_text argument in our texture
language test, and adds Polish and Ukrainian names for Reuse Slides and
Compress Pictures.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Takes main's folded progress docs (one status line per doc) and notes
the Ukrainian and Polish UI on each of those lines; the localization
rows and text this PR changed stay.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Preferences keeps main's snapshot for Cancel and its release-to-apply
Interface size slider (storytold#767), with our interface-language choice above
the General section and the labels going through the catalog.

…warped display of some PDFs (storytold#199) (storytold#427)
* hayro-syntax: fix float mantissa overflow on high-precision coordinates (storytold#199)
jsPDF outputs double-precision floating-point coordinates with 16+ decimal
places in /MediaBox. In hayro-syntax, read_inner accumulated float mantissa
digits into u64 using wrapping arithmetic. Integer mantissas exceeding
u64::MAX wrapped modulo 2^64, severely corrupting page dimensions
(e.g., 3874.96 pt became 185.61 pt, rendering as a warped ribbon).
Accumulation now uses checked arithmetic: trailing fractional digits
exceeding u64 capacity are safely ignored without incrementing decimal_shift.
This preserves full IEEE-754 f64 precision while preventing overflow for
numbers with arbitrary numbers of decimal places.
Includes:
- Unit test in hayro-syntax with reported values and a 50-digit fraction.
- Synthetic PDF regression test in pdfcraft-render verifying inspect().
- Vendored patch (6) documentation in vendor/README.md.
Fixesstorytold#199
* Never crash: mesh shadings can't exhaust memory or run for minutes
`cargo xtask fuzz` (with the dash, JBIG2 and decompression fixes in
place) found a page whose Coons patch shading (type 6), a 147-byte
stream with 1-bit coordinates decoded onto +-40000, took the renderer
past 3 GB. hayro-interpret samples mesh shadings (types 4-7) pixel by
pixel over each triangle's device-space bounding box into a map, with
nothing but the u16 cast bounding it: up to 65536 x 65536 entries for
one triangle. A synthetic single patch passed 6 GB in six seconds; ten
thousand triangles that each cover half a 1000 x 1000 page ran for
minutes. Two rounds of review of earlier versions found more: every
patch was cut into 722 triangles (about 150 KB) before anything limited
them; a lattice mesh with `/VerticesPerRow 0` pushed empty rows forever,
and one with 4294967295 read the whole stream into one row; a mesh
painted a thousand times was triangulated a thousand times; and the
first caps cut content without a word.
Vendored hayro-interpret patch (18):
- `ShadingPattern::encode_within(area)`: the vendored hayro renderer
passes the area it will actually draw (the path's bounding box on the
canvas, which it already computes) plus a pixel for texels at a
fractional edge, and triangles are sampled only inside it, so the map
holds at most that area's pixels.
- `TriangleSampler`: at most 8 visits per pixel of that area plus 4 per
triangle in it. A triangle's bounding box is about twice its area and a
sub-pixel triangle's is at most 2 x 2 pixels, so tiling meshes and
small dense ones (a patch in a few pixels is 722 triangles) still
shade completely; overlapping ones stop.
- Coons and tensor-product patches are triangulated one at a time.
- Meshes hold at most `MAX_MESH_PATCHES` (2^16; a 200 x 200 gradient
mesh is 40 thousand) patches and `MAX_MESH_TRIANGLES` (2^20)
triangles, and a lattice needs two (ISO 32000-2 8.7.4.5.6) to 2^19
vertices per row.
- A page samples at most `MAX_PAGE_MESH_TRIANGLES` (2^25; the 200 x 200
mesh is 29 million) mesh triangles in all, reset per page like the
existing paint budget.
- Each of these cuts logs a warning.
`encode()` keeps its signature; with no area it samples within a fixed
2^24 visits.
Synthetic regression tests in render:
- `mesh_shadings_far_off_the_page_render`: a Coons patch and a triangle
mesh decoded onto +-40000 render and the rest of the page draws; a
patch on the page, the part of the huge one that covers it, and a
patch filling a 4 x 4 pt rectangle as a pattern are all shaded.
- `many_overlapping_mesh_triangles_finish`: 10,000 triangles each
covering half of a 1000 x 1000 page finish, and are drawn.
- `mesh_shadings_with_many_patches_or_no_rows_finish`: 40,000 patches
beside the page, and a lattice with `/VerticesPerRow 0`.
Red on main (out of memory, killed at 3.9 GB). Each part is pinned by a
mutation: no visit budget stalls past 60 s; no clip leaves the covering
patch unshaded; no per-triangle allowance leaves the small patch
unshaded; triangulating all patches first runs out of memory (killed at
5.8 GB); no rows check runs out of memory.

* Never crash: decompression bombs can't exhaust the renderer's memory
The renderer's parser (vendored hayro-syntax) decoded Flate, LZW and
RunLength streams with no output limit. A 2 MB page whose content
stream inflates to 2 GB, or whose 8 x 8 image does, took `pdfcraft-cli
render` and `text` past 3 GB in under a second, and a few more MB of
file scale it further. On the desktop that is the first-page render of
an emailed PDF, and the allocation-failure abort takes every open
document with it. Our own layers already bound single streams (lopdf's
load-time decoding at 256 MiB, cos at 1 GiB), so `info` stays at a few
MB; the renderer path didn't. Random mutation almost never makes a
high-ratio stream, so `cargo xtask fuzz` doesn't find this; found by
hand while triaging the fuzz run.
Vendored hayro-syntax patch (6):
- `decode_limit` gives each filter an output limit, and Flate (both
flate2 and the fallback inflater), LZW and RunLength never write past
it (the buffer can still grow to under twice it):
`MAX_DECODED_STREAM`, 256 MiB, lopdf's figure; or, for the last filter
of an image whose size, bits per component and components are known,
twice its pixel bytes (a PNG predictor tag byte per byte at most),
capped at 1 GiB. Earlier filters in a chain produce compressed data
and get the general limit.
- `Stream::decoded_within(max)` for callers that budget.
- A page's `/Contents` array shares one `MAX_DECODED_STREAM` (naming one
bomb twenty times decoded 5 GB), reserving exactly what it appends.
Vendored hayro-interpret patch (18):
- The content a page holds at once (its contents, and the forms, tiling
patterns and Type 3 glyph procedures being painted) stays within
`MAX_PAGE_CONTENT`, 512 MiB, reset per page like the existing paint
budget. Forms nest fifty deep and each level kept its content while
the next ran: a form painting itself around a 256 MiB stream would
have held over 12 GB. Each level gives its bytes back when it is
dropped, so content painted again and again keeps drawing, and a
stream without filters (borrowed from the file) costs nothing.
- Type 0 sampled functions read every sample into a 4-byte value and
then a table entry: 256 MiB of 1-bit samples asked for over 8 GB. They
now take at most 2^21 table points and 2^23 values (the largest real
tables, DeviceN tint transforms such as 33^4 points x 3 outputs, are
1.2 million and 3.6 million), counted with checked arithmetic, and
read no further than `/Size` asks. `/Size 0` no longer underflows
building the default `/Encode`.
Three rounds of independent review found the aggregate cases, buffer
doubling past the limit, a chain/predictor shape the first image limit
would have truncated, the Type 0 amplifier, and a first, cumulative
budget that would have dropped legitimately repeated content, and a
first Type 0 cap low enough to refuse real tint transforms; all fixed
here.
Measured in a release build (render; OS peak commit):
- content stream inflating to 2 GB: 389 MB, 0.3 s
- 8 x 8 image inflating to 2 GB: 4 MB, 0.2 s
- /Contents naming it twenty times: 516 MB, 0.3 s
- a form painting itself around it: 644 MB, 0.4 s
Synthetic regression tests in render (flate2 is a new dev-dependency
there, already in the workspace):
- `decompression_bombs_stop_at_the_stream_limit`: 288 MiB bombs through
flate2, the fallback inflater (a stored block with a wrong length
check, which flate2 refuses and the fallback accepts), LZW and
RunLength each decode exactly 256 MiB, and at most 128 bytes as an
8 x 8 image.
- `page_contents_and_nested_forms_share_one_budget`: three /Contents
references decode one stream's worth; a self-painting form finishes.
- `content_painted_again_and_again_keeps_drawing`: a 2 MiB form painted
300 times draws the 300th time.
- `sampled_functions_with_billions_of_samples_are_refused`.
Ten mutations each turn them red: no limit at all; no limit in flate2,
the fallback, LZW, RunLength or for images; an unshared /Contents limit;
no page budget; no refund on drop; no Type 0 sample cap. (Taking a form
out of the budget no longer compiles: its content is the budget guard.)

* M2: bound page-label work and output before applying labels
Share bounded PDF Roman and repeated-letter formatters between inspection
and editing. Bound tree traversal, raw and decoded prefixes, individual
labels and aggregate label output, with checked numbering arithmetic.
Stage inspection labels before applying them and retain physical page
numbers with a warning when optional labels cannot be processed. Reject
unsupported label edits before changing the document tree.
Add synthetic limit, cycle, Unicode, numbering and atomic-edit regressions.

* View: keep earlier tiles on screen while a zoom's new tiles render
Zooming a tiled page (larger than 4096 device pixels) dropped every tile
of the previous scale at once, so each zoom step fell back to the
2048 px backdrop until the new tiles arrived: the page went blurry on
every frame of a pinch. Tiles are now keyed by scale; those of earlier
zooms stay (nearest scale on top, at most 64) and are drawn stretched
under the current ones until those cover the page. Entering the tiled
range also keeps a whole-page raster sharper than the backdrop instead
of replacing it with the backdrop.

* hayro-syntax: fix float mantissa overflow on high-precision coordinates (storytold#199)
jsPDF outputs double-precision floating-point coordinates with 16+ decimal
places in /MediaBox. In hayro-syntax, read_inner accumulated float mantissa
digits into u64 using wrapping arithmetic. Integer mantissas exceeding
u64::MAX wrapped modulo 2^64, severely corrupting page dimensions
(e.g., 3874.96 pt became 185.61 pt, rendering as a warped ribbon).
Accumulation now uses checked arithmetic: trailing fractional digits
exceeding u64 capacity are safely ignored without incrementing decimal_shift.
This preserves full IEEE-754 f64 precision while preventing overflow for
numbers with arbitrary numbers of decimal places.
Includes:
- Unit test in hayro-syntax with reported values and a 50-digit fraction.
- Synthetic PDF regression test in pdfcraft-render verifying inspect().
- Vendored patch (6) documentation in vendor/README.md.
Fixesstorytold#199
* M2: bound page-label work and output before applying labels
Share bounded PDF Roman and repeated-letter formatters between inspection
and editing. Bound tree traversal, raw and decoded prefixes, individual
labels and aggregate label output, with checked numbering arithmetic.
Stage inspection labels before applying them and retain physical page
numbers with a warning when optional labels cannot be processed. Reject
unsupported label edits before changing the document tree.
Add synthetic limit, cycle, Unicode, numbering and atomic-edit regressions.

Ten mutations each turn them red: no limit at all; no limit in flate2,
the fallback, LZW, RunLength or for images; an unshared /Contents limit;
no page budget; no refund on drop; no Type 0 sample cap. (Taking a form
out of the budget no longer compiles: its content is the budget guard.)

* M2: normalize JPEG2000 samples without overflowing
Use bounded integer sample scaling for 1-32-bit JPX images and reject empty dimensions before chunking. Cover public decoding and continued page rendering with synthetic regressions.

* M14: use adapter texture limits for HiDPI surfaces (storytold#577)
Preserve the existing egui-wgpu device descriptor while enabling the
selected adapter's supported 2D texture extent. Cover the observed
8600-pixel Outlook startup surface and downlevel limit preservation.

Merge Risk: Minimal · up to f4a77
The reviewed localization changes have no unresolved material correctness or mergeability risk.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to f4a77
The language feature has limited apparent security impact. No introduced security issue was established, but some downstream usage and alternate execution paths remain unverified.

Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The inspected locale flow affects interface text and editor prompts, rather than document ownership or export content. Broad UI fanout therefore does not by itself establish broader security authority or data exposure.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Externally supplied host or browser locale is mapped to a fixed language enum. Translation lookup selects compile-time bundled catalogs with English fallback, rather than treating locale text as a catalog location or executable input.

Remove the second tr call on labels that are already translated.
Line 36 and Line 118 already translate label. Line 72 and Line 152 translate it again.
At Line 72, the code translates each wrapped line. A fragment such as "Slide" or "Master" can match an unrelated catalog key. That produces mixed-language output when the full label has no catalog entry. At Line 152, a Ukrainian or Polish string can collide with an English key.

…labels translated once
Preferences remembers the interface language with the other settings it opened with, so Cancel, Esc and the close button put it back (a test covers Esc). Language::code() gives the app.language value for the list and the snapshot. The app.language description names pl. Ribbon buttons translated their label and then each wrapped line or the label again; they now draw the translated text as it is, so a fragment can't match an unrelated catalog key.

ROADMAP's Languages section, the gaps ranking row and Localization entry, localization-parity's overview (with pl.tsv) and target-app-parity's Localization row now list Polish, as the shipped catalogs and the rest of each document do. gaps.md logs the change.

Main reworked code whose labels this branch translates: the fill pattern editor moved to fillui.rs, the icon gallery to render_icon_categories/render_filtered_icons, the status bar gained accessible names, the Animation Pane got Play From. Main's code is kept and its labels go through tr() again, including where they moved. New labels get Ukrainian and Polish entries: ▶ Play From, Pattern, and six commands (List Slides to Reuse, Delete Segment, Segment Type, Open Path, Close Path, Reject Revision). Status lines keep both changes; progress-log rows from both sides stay.

Main named every input for assistive technology (labelled_by, Role, a name argument on spinner, small_button_named) and moved the new-slide and section menus into functions. Main's code is kept and the visible labels and accessible names go through tr() again, including where they moved. The interface-language list in Preferences is labelled by its field, as main's naming test requires. New catalog entries in Ukrainian and Polish: Duration, Delay (the spinners' names) and Delete Surrounding Text. start_screen_opens_the_palette_and_preferences fails the same way on main (no ⌥ glyph in the test fonts).

…e language
Ribbon tabs registered their English name for screen readers while painting the translated label; they register the label now. Colour split buttons (Font Color, Shape Fill…) named their main half and arrow with the English tooltip; both use the translated one, and the arrow's "{} options" suffix is a catalog entry, as is the split buttons' one. The accessibility checker's findings came straight from the engine in English; issue_text translates the three it reports, keeping the contrast ratio, and leaves any other as it came. Ukrainian and Polish entries added; a test covers the findings.

Main added measurement units (Preferences, the slide-size dialog, the Size and Position fields and the ribbon's Height and Width), language marking for the whole presentation, and two commands. Main's code is kept and its labels go through tr() again. New Ukrainian and Polish entries: Apply to:, Selected text, Whole presentation, Mark all text in the presentation as:, Measurement units:, Inches, Centimeters, Select Slide Range, Language for All Text. ROADMAP and localization-parity keep both status changes.

Only Cargo.lock conflicted (main's self-updater, storytold#1377); main's lockfile is kept. The new Check for Updates… command gets Ukrainian and Polish entries.

Summary
Adds Polish (
pl) as an interface language on top of the i18n infrastructure from #34.crates/ui-egui/src/i18n/pl.tsv: 1,232 entries, exactly the key set ofuk.tsv.i18n.rs:Language::Pl(label "Polski", localespl,pl-PL,pl_PL.UTF-8); lookups go through the catalog of the language being drawn.app.languageacceptspl.ATTRIBUTION.md,docs/localization-parity.mdandROADMAP.mdlist the new catalog. One change to #34's code
count()now takes the Ukrainian and the Polish forms as[one, few, many]arrays instead of three positional Ukrainian arguments; its call sites andrecovered()pass both. Polish needs its own rule: 1 is the only "one" (21 takes the "many" form,21 slajdów, where Ukrainian has21 слайд), and 2–4 / 22–24 are "few". Ukrainian output is unchanged and its test still passes. #110 changes the same function in a different way, so the two will conflict; I will adapt to whichever shape lands.Clean room
