🟡 Minor · Constrain manager actions to the opening worksheet. · dialogs.rs:3097-3104
crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs.rs:3097-3104
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winConstrain manager actions to the opening worksheet.
The manager stores only the opening worksheet's snapshot, but its actions use the current active worksheet. If the user switches from sheet A to sheet B, edits B, and cancels, the Cancel path restores A and leaves B changed.
Pass the stored sheet to every manager operation so the action target matches the snapshot.

Keep Current Selection scoped to the opening sheet.
If the active sheet changes while the manager is open, home.manageRules ignores show: "selection" for the opening sheet. The manager then displays every rule on that sheet under “Current Selection.” Preserve the opening selection and filter against it, or extend the engine command to accept that selection explicitly.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Validate rules that set deserializes directly.
If an entry's rule deserializes as a CfRule, manage_cf stores it without calling check_cf_rule. The parse_rule path runs that check. The set path does not. A home.manageRules caller, for example an MCP agent, can send a CellIs, Expression, DataBar or ColorScale rule whose formula does not parse. The check from #1999 exists to stop exactly this case: the saved file then holds a formula that Excel rejects. Call check_cf_rule on the deserialized rule as well. The cost is small, and snapshot restores still pass because their rules were validated when they were created.
Line 1717 now also takes thresholds from the params. check_cf_rule has no IconSet arm. If the thresholds contain CfValueKind::Formula, add an arm that checks them too.

Reject malformed serialized rules before replacing the list.
If a set entry supplies {"rule":{"Blanks":{}},"appliesTo":"=A1"}, CfRule deserialization fails because style is missing. The fallback then treats the object as parameters. With no type, parse_rule creates the default cellIs rule. The replacement succeeds with a different rule instead of rejecting the malformed entry. Accept parameter-shaped rule values when they have a recognized type, but return an error for malformed serialized rules.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Use is_string_literal in unformula. Keep literals that would read back as a number or a formula.
unformula treats any a that starts and ends with " as a string literal. Because of that, parse_rule does not get back the same rule from the listed params in three cases:
- A formula such as
"a"&A1&"b"becomes the texta"&A1&"b.parse_rulethen quotes it as a literal, so the rule compares against text instead of evaluating the formula. - The text literal
"=x"becomes=x.parse_rulethen stores the formulax. - The text literal
"5"becomes5.parse_rulethen stores the number 5.
Edit Rule… sends the listed params back through update even when the user changes nothing. One Edit + OK therefore changes how these rules evaluate. manage_rules_lists_params_that_recreate_the_rule does not cover these values.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Fix Move Up / Move Down in the "Current Selection" view.
In the "Current Selection" view, rules lists only the rules that intersect the selection. The engine still swaps the rule with its neighbor in the full sheet list, index ± 1. That neighbor is often hidden.
Example: the listed rules have sheet positions 2 and 5, and rule 5 is selected (list position 1). After Move Up, the rule is at sheet position 4 and still at list position 1. d.list_index becomes 0, so the highlight jumps to the rule at sheet position 2. Edit and Delete then act on a rule the user did not pick.
The arrows are also enabled or disabled by list position:
firstblocks Move Up for the top listed rule, even when its sheet position is above 0.lastblocks Move Down for the bottom listed rule, even when rules follow it on the sheet.
Track the selected rule by its sheet position, not its list position. After a move, find the moved rule's new position in the next listing.

Compare color overrides by color value, not raw JSON.
rule_style compares color overrides as raw JSON, but color_param accepts equivalent hex and theme-color representations. An MCP caller can therefore trigger reapplication of an unchanged color and lose pattern fills, partial borders, or theme-color metadata.
The dialog does not rewrite an existing value during Edit. Its palette emits uppercase hex, which matches Color::hex; the MCP path remains sufficient to make this issue reachable.
Parse both values with color_param and compare their resolved colors before applying an override.

New Rule… opens New Formatting Rule with the six rule types (colour scales, data bars and icon sets; cell value, text, dates, blanks and errors; top/bottom; above/below average; unique/duplicate; formula) and a format editor with presets, fill, font colour, border, font styles and a preview. Manage Rules shows a table (rule, format preview, applies to, Stop If True), filters by Current Selection or This Worksheet, edits, duplicates, deletes and reorders rules, edits Applies to, and Cancel restores the rules it opened with. Every action, including New Rule…, works on the sheet and selection the dialog opened with. Engine: rule parsing is shared and goes through the style and formula checks (storytold#1999); home.conditionalFormat takes stopIfTrue, plain format overrides (fill, fontColor, border, bold, italic, underline, strike) and colour-scale/data-bar thresholds; an override equal to what the style already shows is left out, so editing keeps partial borders, patterns, double underlines and dxf_stated. home.manageRules gains show, selection, update, duplicate and set (a listed serialized rule restores exactly), and lists each rule's editable params. Labels are translated in Chinese, Czech, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Serbian and Spanish. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
