Integration batch 1: 18 contributor PRs (CJK fonts, timeline, preview caches, interface languages) - #2257
Conversation
…the catalogs Text drawn outside the menu bar stayed English in every language: - i18n::command_label: the Timeline / Composition layer and property context menus now take the menu bar's row for the same command (… or ...), else the panel catalog's row; the layer menu's Effects submenu draws effect and category names through the effect catalog. - The dock's tab titles (and the dragged tab), the Composition, Effect Controls and Properties tabs, and the workspace bar and menus use the window.panel and window.workspace rows every menu catalog already has. - The Project panel's search hint, details hint and column headers, and the Timeline's column headers and Columns menu go through tr(). The Simplified and Traditional Chinese rows for "Type" read 文字 (text, the Type tool); the string is the Camera Settings field and now the Project column, so they read 类型 / 類型. dock_ui.rs joins the converted files. Languages without a row for a string keep the English, as before. Match System (the default) stayed English in the browser build, which has no system-locale probe (storytold#229). The page now passes ?lang= from the address, then navigator.languages, and Match System takes the first of them with a catalog (an English tag counts), else English. A language chosen in Settings still wins; native builds are unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01YMTAbGNRxnMEzRvYnQGphF (cherry picked from commit 73c064e)
Adds Georgian (ქართული, code ka) to Settings > General > Language, with Match System for ka / ka-GE / ka_GE.UTF-8 locales: - i18n.rs: the menu catalog, the same 628 (command, English label) keys as the other languages, plus the Undo/Redo entries, the workspace and 3D view shortcut submenus, the Reveal labels on Windows and Linux and the macOS Services items. - i18n/ui.rs: GEORGIAN, every row of the Chinese panel catalogs (687), and GEORGIAN_PANELS, 195 rows for text the panels send through tr() that no catalog has yet (form dialogs, drop messages, screen-reader names, context menus, Project and Timeline column headers). The tests hold them to the same rules (unique, same placeholders, used by a converted panel) and keep them from shadowing a Chinese row; prefs_live.rs joins the converted files. - i18n/effects.rs: Georgian names for all 307 effects and 21 categories; the CC series and brand names stay in English. - Properties > Text Animation: the Add Animator and Presets buttons grow with their translated labels (English keeps 116 / 84 px). …s the print ones Windows ships a UI variant of its Japanese and Chinese families (`Meiryo`/`Meiryo UI`, `Yu Gothic`/`Yu Gothic UI`, `MS Gothic`/`MS UI Gothic`, `Microsoft YaHei`/`Microsoft YaHei UI`, `Microsoft JhengHei`/`Microsoft JhengHei UI`) whose kana and kanji are drawn for the screen, and its own link table for `Segoe UI` picks the UI one for everything it draws. The interface should ask for it - but the same lists feed `fonts::fallback_for`, which shapes composed frames, so reordering them would change how existing projects render. The two orders are therefore separate: this leaves `crates/text/src/fonts.rs` exactly as it is and gives the interface its own candidate list in `install_script_fallbacks`, which falls back to the shared choice when the platform has no UI variant, none is installed, or it does not cover the probe. `PMingLiU` is in the interface list for its proportional spacing, not as a sibling of `MingLiU`: it is MingLiU's proportional relative. The rendered order is pinned by a test now: the Japanese list keeps `Yu Gothic` ahead of `Yu Gothic UI`, and no UI name appears in the lists a document renders with. `the_interface_asks_for_the_ platforms_ui_faces` pins the interface list and checks that every other script the install probes has none, so a script that draws correctly in any face keeps the shared order. Review fixes: the locale is mapped once (the call passes the language, the helper maps it), the new test sits after the storytold#394 test it had split from its doc comment, and the fonts.rs test asserts instead of panicking inside a closure. Rebased on current main; storytold#1395 has not landed yet, so there is nothing to rebase after it.
Georgian joins the installed-font fallback like Thai, Hebrew and the Indic scripts: Sylfaen on Windows, SF Georgian on macOS, Noto Sans Georgian or DejaVu Sans on Linux. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01YMTAbGNRxnMEzRvYnQGphF
Upstream now translates the Timeline, Composition and Effect Controls context menus itself, so command_label is left for the dock's tab titles and the workspace bar, on menu_catalog. … no longer uses Copy, Paste, Copy Source Path, Guide Layer and Layer Styles join GEORGIAN in the Chinese order; Edit Value…, Remove Expression and Effects move there from GEORGIAN_PANELS now that the Chinese catalogs carry them; Freeze on Last Frame is only a menu command now. The layout marks a glyph synth_bold when Faux Bold is on, or when a bold style is asked of a family without a bold face, but the renderer never read it, so both drew as regular. PlacedGlyph now carries the bold radius (0.03 em, which brings Inter Regular's stems to Inter Bold's). A bold fill is the outline's coverage merged with a round stroke twice that wide, and a bold glyph's stroke is the band between the outline grown by radius ± half the stroke width, so it follows the bolder shape. Runs of solid fills only merge glyphs of the same bold radius, and the patch and layer bounds grow by it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
…when that key misses. Replacing a virtual file bumps a counter the UI lookup reads. The content hash runs on that miss, from a callback, so the frame path does not stat every footage item or hash on every store write.
Synthetic bold grows a glyph's outline in its own space, so a non-uniform character Scale stretches it more along one axis. The patch and layer bounds reserved it through mean_scale and could clip the stretched side; they now reserve how far the bold reaches along x and y. A run of solid fills grows its glyphs together in layer space by one radius, which only matches when the bold stays round there: a bold glyph whose matrix stretches or skews is no longer gathered into a run. A switch click on one of several selected layers passed that layer alone to `layer.setSwitch`, so Lock, 3D, Video (and the rest of the A/V Features and Switches columns) had to be set one layer at a time. The click now gives the switch to the whole selection, with the layers it doesn't apply to left out (3D on a camera, Effect on a layer without effects, Audio on a layer without audio, ...). The targets are picked when the press happens, so drawing a row costs nothing more than before. A row that isn't selected still changes that layer alone, pressing and dragging over rows is unchanged, and Alt-clicking an A/V feature sets the selected layers apart.
…torytold#1849) The label swatch's menu, the Blending Mode menu and Preserve Transparency passed the clicked layer alone, so a colour or a mode had to be set one layer at a time. They now act on the whole selection, with the Modes column edits going only to the selected layers that have video, as its cells do. The preserve-transparency checkbox also gets an automation id, like the cells around it.
One bullet in the Timeline section of docs/agents.md and a note on the ui-parity Timeline row, next to the other multi-selection fixes.
…s along The Timeline draws the Video switch (the eye) on every layer's row, nulls, cameras and lights included, but set_switch_others and hide_other_video skipped cameras and lights: Alt-clicking the eye of a selected layer neither set them apart with the selection nor hid them with the rest. Both now use the rule the eye cell shows: every layer but track mattes.
…ld#1849) layer.setSwitch with no value toggles relative to the first selected layer in composition order, so with a mixed selection (A checked, C unchecked) clicking C's box could leave C unchanged. The checkbox now sends the value it toggles to, as the switches do.
…= Index (storytold#1814) With Units set to Index the selector already counts characters (words, lines), but the timeline kept showing Start, End and Offset as percentages ("3.0%"), so switching looked like it did nothing. They are now shown without the % sign while Units is Index (render::text::in_index_units).
…t % (storytold#1814) Start, End and Offset are read as painted in the Timeline: with % under Units = Percentage, without it under Units = Index. Fails on the old suffix rule ("0.0%").
Only the built-in workspaces read the Window ▸ Workspace rows; a name the user saved (\"Composition\", say) no longer falls through to the panel catalog. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01YMTAbGNRxnMEzRvYnQGphF
The panel catalog's \"Type\" is the kind (Camera Settings, the Project column), so the Type page drew as \"kind\" in Chinese; its title now comes from the app.settings menu row (文字), as the Settings submenu draws it. system_fallback is the scan-order search; fallback_for is where the Georgian families are preferred, so the test asks it for Mkhedruli in Inter. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01YMTAbGNRxnMEzRvYnQGphF
Menus 628 rows (every menu catalog), panels 886 (695 shared with the Chinese catalogs plus 191 Georgian-only), effect names 307 + 21 categories; gaps.md and localization-parity.md now agree. …at size (storytold#1812) The media pool honoured the requested size only for movies; stills came back at full size and the renderer resampled them on every frame. A 21120 px wide plate at Quarter was re-filtered each frame, and four of them (1.85 GB as f32) did not fit the 1 GiB pool, so they were also decoded again and again. Stills are now resampled once with effectcraft_raster::resample (the same call the renderer made, so pixels are unchanged) and the pool keeps the reduced copy under the sized key. storytold#1812 project at Quarter, CLI bench: 410 ms -> 33 ms a frame (26 ms with the layer cache); desktop playback 2% -> 60-99% of real time. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…orytold#1812) Footage layers had no layer cache key, so a still made a new layer buffer every frame on every preview worker, and the GPU compositor uploaded it again each time (its upload cache is keyed by buffer). Stills (without a proxy) are now keyed like text and shape layers, without the source time; movies and sequences are unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The playback prefetch only looked ahead*3 frames (96 with 16 workers) for uncached frames. After a loop or a restart from the start those were all cached, so the workers stood idle until the playhead came within that window of the end of the cached run, then the preview stalled. A playing preview now looks as far ahead as the RAM preview holds (and the range spans) for the next uncached frames, still queuing at most ahead at a time; eviction already spares the frames the playhead reaches first (storytold#595). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…#1812) Review: frame_at_size at a still's native size made a second cache key, so the pool decoded and kept a second full-size copy of a frame thumbnail() or frame() already had. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…orytold#1814) The Index-units test now opens the Units popup in the Timeline and picks Index, asserts the stored Units value, then reads the painted Start, End and Offset, so it also fails when the Units control doesn't update the session.

- Around line 111-112: Update the supported locale mapping used by
first_supported to recognize the shipped French, German, and Russian catalogs,
so locale tags such as fr-FR, de-DE, and ru-RU resolve to their catalog codes
instead of English. Add tests covering both explicitly requested locales and
browser locales.

the Georgian catalog row or the statement about review status so both accurately
agree. Locate the row by its Georgian label and `ka` code, and the conflicting
statement in the native-speaker review section.
