Maintenance

ARCHMAC follows a conservative maintenance model on top of rolling-release Arch Linux.

Before changing configuration

cd ~/projects/archmac
git status
git log --oneline -5

Know the current baseline.

Update system

Review Arch Linux news before major upgrades when relevant.

Then:

sudo pacman -Syu

Avoid partial upgrades.

After significant updates

Verify the core workstation:

hyprctl version
nmcli device
wpctl status
systemctl --failed
systemctl --user --failed

Also test:

  • login / Hyprland launch
  • terminal
  • Wi-Fi
  • audio
  • brightness
  • keyboard/trackpad
  • clipboard history
  • lock/idle
  • Waybar
  • wallpaper persistence

Repository discipline

Working behaviour is a contract.

Preferred workflow:

observe
→ diagnose
→ make one coherent change
→ verify
→ commit atomically

Keep main known-good.

A new feature should not be mixed with unrelated cleanup.

Documentation discipline

When behaviour changes, update:

  • canonical config/script
  • relevant docs/ file
  • Wiki page
  • changelog when release-worthy

The Wiki should explain why the ARCHMAC decision exists, while the repo contains the executable truth.
