ARCHMAC Wiki

ARCHMAC is a reproducible Arch Linux + Hyprland workstation configuration for the Apple MacBookPro9,2 (13-inch, Mid 2012).

It is not a generic Arch installer and it is not an attempt to replace ArchWiki. This Wiki documents the known-good ARCHMAC decisions, workflows, hardware quirks, recovery doctrine, desktop behaviour, and operator shortcuts that sit on top of Arch Linux.

Current baseline

  • Arch Linux
  • Hyprland
  • Waybar
  • Kitty
  • PipeWire + WirePlumber
  • NetworkManager
  • Mako
  • Hypridle + Hyprlock
  • GTK 3 / GTK 4
  • Qt 5 / Qt 6 Wayland
  • Intel HD Graphics 4000 (i915)
  • Broadcom Wi-Fi
  • Apple keyboard / trackpad / SMC hardware
  • Hyprpaper wallpaper workflow
  • wl-clipboard + cliphist clipboard history

ARCHMAC operating principle

Preserve working behaviour. Diagnose before modifying.

A functioning EFI/boot configuration is treated as a contract. ARCHMAC desktop installation and maintenance must not casually modify EFI, NVRAM, GRUB, rEFInd, or other bootloader state.

Installer-media failure is not automatically a bootloader failure.

Modes

ARCHMAC provides three operating profiles:

Mode Purpose
Fancy Full visual desktop, animations/effects, balanced power
Performance Reduced compositor overhead for games/heavy workloads
Battery Reduced compositor overhead with power-saving behaviour

See ARCHMAC-Modes.

Repository

The main repository is the canonical source for configuration and scripts:

https://github.com/Neclonesoul/archmac

Important paths:

  • config/ — canonical desktop configuration
  • bin/ — ARCHMAC helper scripts
  • manifests/ — package manifests
  • docs/ — operational documentation
  • state/ — known-good reference state

When this Wiki and the repository disagree, verify the live system and then update both deliberately.
