Summary

Rebuilds the GitHub Pages site (docs/index.html) as a dark page whose images are ASCII art drawn live with WebGL, and includes the pending search and AI discovery work the page builds on.

  • Hero: a live ASCII planet with three moons for default, personal and work. Their labels follow the moons, and the cursor turns the light. The single h1 is now "Your Codex profiles, one click away."
  • (01) Separation: three live moons in different phases, one per CODEX_HOME, each with its own ring.
  • (02) Menu bar and terminal: a switch between the app's screenshot and real codex-profile usage and workspace list output with the same sample quota. The screenshot is the redesigned menu, shipped as docs/menu-dark.png. Numbered markers sit on the matching spots in both views, and each feature names its CLI command.
  • (03) Install: a trajectory diagram whose four stops match the four install commands; hovering a command highlights its stop.
  • (04) Safety: large 00 counters for what it never does, what it does, the local-state boundary, and the security, validation and machine-readable docs notes.
  • (05) Questions: project facts beside the FAQ. The visible FAQ is generated from the FAQPage JSON-LD, so the two match exactly.
  • (06) Lift-off: a dawn horizon with the install command and a Copy button.
  • Without WebGL or JavaScript, static ASCII art replaces the scenes and both menu views are shown; all text stays in the HTML. Reduced motion draws one still frame.

Also included, because the page depends on it:

  • Search and AI discovery: new title and description, a Person maintainer identity, SoftwareApplication plus SoftwareSourceCode, release-feed and llms.txt alternates, the editorial date (now 2026-10-27) in the page, JSON-LD and sitemap, the robots.txt host-root note, llms.txt with raw Markdown sources, and the updated site test.
  • Release validation: verify-source.sh, metadata-test.sh and source-test.sh now accept raw Markdown source links while keeping installer references pinned to the release tag. Without this, the new llms.txt fails metadata-test.sh.
The check also percent-decodes raw URLs, so an encoded path such as install%2Esh can't slip through.
  • Contributor docs: a "Search and AI discovery" section in CONTRIBUTING.md, which docs/robots.txt points to. It covers the site checks, publishing the host-root robots.txt and the search console handoff.

Rebased onto #93. The only conflict was the old page's "Safe config cloning" card, which the redesign removes.
After #95 merged, main was merged in: both changelog entries are kept, and docs/menu-dark.png is now the preview #95 committed. Its layout is unchanged, so the markers still line up.

Testing

  • make check on macOS on the rebased branch: syntax, behaviour, packaging, native macOS tests and ShellCheck, all passing, including test/site/geo-test.mjs.
  • Previewed locally at 1440 and 375 px wide:
    • All four WebGL scenes draw and follow the cursor, with no console errors.
    • At phone width there's no horizontal page scroll, and the terminal scrolls inside its own frame.
    • The switch works by click and arrow keys, and the hover links between features, markers and terminal lines work.
    • Forcing a WebGL failure shows the ASCII fallback.
  • The terminal text was re-captured with the rebased bin/codex-profile against a stand-in Codex server in a throwaway HOME. It matches the page apart from reset times, which depend on when it runs.
  • Not checked: animation over time in a visible browser window (my preview pane was hidden, so frames were drawn by hand), real phones, and WebGL2 in Safari or Firefox.

Scope and compatibility

  • Affected scope: the docs site, llms.txt, and release and site validation. No CLI or app behaviour changes.
  • Compatibility impact:
    • The visible version stays <span>v1.3.0</span>, which deploy-pages.sh and the metadata test look for.
    • The anchors #how, #menubar, #faq, #facts and #trust are kept; #answer and #features no longer exist.
    • docs/og-image.png still shows the old design.
    • Pages only deploys on manual dispatch, so the live site changes after the merge and a run of the Pages workflow.

Checklist

  • I ran make check; if the environment lacks ShellCheck, I ran
make test and documented the missing lint result instead.
  • I did not add code that reads, copies, prints, parses, uploads, compares,
or migrates auth tokens or ChatGPT cookies.
  • Desktop changes preserve the stock app default session and use the
original signed app bundle. (No Desktop changes in this PR.)
  • I did not claim that CLI and Desktop account equality can be inspected or verified.
  • I updated documentation for user-facing behavior changes.

Rebuild docs/index.html as a dark page drawn with WebGL ASCII scenes: an
orbiting planet with one moon per profile, phase moons for each Codex
home, an install trajectory and a dawn horizon. Static ASCII art stands
in without WebGL or JavaScript. The FAQ, project facts, safety notes and
release line stay in the HTML, and the visible FAQ is kept identical to
the FAQPage structured data. The menu screenshot now ships with the site
as docs/menu-dark.png.

Also include the pending search and AI discovery work the page builds on:
the updated metadata and JSON-LD, llms.txt with raw Markdown sources,
robots.txt, the sitemap date, and the site test. Release validation now
accepts raw Markdown source links while keeping executable installer
references pinned to the release tag, which the new llms.txt needs.

Add a Menu bar / Terminal switch above the menu screenshot. The terminal
view shows real codex-profile usage and workspace list output, captured
against a stand-in Codex server with the screenshot's sample quota, and
the numbered markers sit on the matching lines in both views. Each
feature also names its CLI command.

Without JavaScript the switch stays hidden and both views are shown, so
the terminal text is always in the HTML.

Walkthrough

This pull request updates project discovery documentation and site validation, and changes release-source checks to distinguish raw Markdown links from executable installer URLs.

Changes: Site discovery and project documentation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Project information and discovery links
CHANGELOG.md, docs/llms.txt
The changelog records website, search, and AI-discovery updates. llms.txt now describes the app and CLI, lists project resources, and updates its menu-bar app details.
Site metadata and validation
docs/robots.txt, docs/sitemap.xml, test/site/geo-test.mjs
Robots and sitemap entries are updated. Site tests now check visible content, metadata, structured data, sitemap coverage, and project links.

Installer source validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Installer URL validation and tests
CHANGELOG.md, scripts/release/verify-source.sh, test/packaging/metadata-test.sh, test/release/source-test.sh
The verifier captures installer URLs through query or fragment suffixes and still requires an exact versioned release URL. Tests cover installer path matching, acceptance of a raw README source link, and rejection of non-release installer links.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "docs(feat): redesign the site around a live ASCII orbit" matches the main change. The PR redesigns the GitHub Pages site in docs/index.html around live WebGL ASCII scenes, which the title describes. The title also uses a conventional-commit prefix. The title does not mention the release-validation or metadata changes, but it does not need to cover every detail. The prefix "docs(feat)" is slightly unusual, since the change is a docs-site redesign rather than a product feature, but it does not make the title misleading.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 1 functions across 4 files. (4 skipped: 4 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Resolve conflicts with #95: keep the redesigned docs/index.html (its
change rewrote the old page's menu section, which this branch replaces),
keep both changelog entries, and ship the menu preview #95 committed as
docs/menu-dark.png. The terminal sample still matches the merged CLI's
output apart from reset times.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Address review feedback on #97.

- Add the Search and AI discovery section to CONTRIBUTING.md, which
docs/robots.txt points to for publishing the host-root robots.txt. Its
testing checklist now describes this page: JavaScript and WebGL off,
reduced motion, the Menu bar / Terminal switch and re-capturing the
  terminal sample.
- Release validation and the metadata test now percent-decode every raw
URL before deciding whether it names install.sh, so a link such as
main/install%2Esh must still be the exact release URL. The source test
covers that case and fails against the previous check.

Bring in the site redesign (#97). Its menu bar section replaced the one
this branch had edited, so the new section stays as #97 wrote it, with
its screenshot refreshed to this branch's dark preview (same layout, so
the numbered pins still line up) and its description noting each
profile's colour.

Also clarify in DESIGN.md and the macOS guide that background passes
list profiles quietly only after the first profile load.
