docs(feat): show the menu and terminal side by side on the site - #103
The site's menu bar section (02) hid the CLI behind a Menu bar / Terminal tab that defaulted to the menu, so the terminal was easy to miss. Its screenshot also predated #98. This brings the section up to date with the app and shows both views at once.
No more tab switch. The menu screenshot and the terminal sit side by side on the same three-column grid as the features below (menu over Profiles, terminal over Codex quota and Workspaces) and stack under 1100px. A short lede says the numbered markers match across both. The terminal types itself out once when it scrolls into view; without an observer or with reduced motion it is drawn at once.
Current screenshot.docs/menu-dark.png is the latest macos/CodexProfilesMenu/Previews/menu-dark.png: each profile's colour and symbol, and low rows naming a healthier profile (5h limit low · default has 82%).
New terminal output. The panel opens with real codex-profile appearance output (default graphite person, personal green house, work blue briefcase, matching the screenshot), captured in a throwaway home.
Copy. Profiles mentions colours and symbols and codex-profile appearance; Codex quota mentions the healthier-profile hint and quota beside the menu bar icon; Workspaces mentions the opt-in ⌃⌥⌘P shortcut.
Spacing. The features use the page's 56px block gap, headings align across columns, the number sits above each heading at three columns, and on phones the number column narrows to 36px like the FAQ. Commands in the CLI lines no longer break mid-command.
Fixes to existing behaviour.
Terminal lines could stay hidden after the typing animation: steps(1) with a 10ms duration finished at 99.999…ms and never flipped to visible. It now uses step-start.
The .tpin rule was silently overridden by the later .pin rule. Terminal markers now stick to the visible right edge, so a narrow or scrolled terminal never cuts one in half. Marker 02 sits on the short 7d limit label so it no longer covers the timestamp on phones; hovering Codex quota highlights both lines.
The unreleased site-redesign entry in CHANGELOG.md now describes this layout.
The page needs a Pages dispatch after merge to reach prod.
Testing
make check passes, including ShellCheck and node test/site/geo-test.mjs.
Checked in a browser at 1440, 1000, 820, 619 and 375px wide: no page-level horizontal overflow, all 28 terminal lines draw, feature headings align, markers stay whole, and hovering each feature lights its markers in both views.
Not covered: very narrow 320px phones, where marker 03 can overlap the end of codex-profiles -> work.
The menu-bar section now displays the app screenshot alongside terminal examples, including profile appearance, usage, and workspace information.
Numbered markers connect the screenshot and terminal output, and the feature descriptions now cover profile colors and symbols, quota recommendations, and the global menu shortcut.
Style
Updated the layout for responsive display, with terminal markers that stay visible as the output scrolls.
Accessibility
Terminal output animates into view when visible, while respecting reduced-motion preferences.
Bring the site's menu bar section up to date with the app and stop
hiding the CLI behind a tab.
- The Menu bar / Terminal switch is gone. The current menu screenshot
and the terminal sit side by side on the same three-column grid as
the features below, and stack under 1100px. The terminal types
itself out once when it scrolls into view.
- `docs/menu-dark.png` is the latest preview render: each profile's
colour and symbol, and low rows naming a healthier profile.
- The terminal opens with real `codex-profile appearance` output, and
the feature copy covers colours and symbols, the healthier-profile
hint, quota beside the menu bar icon and the ⌃⌥⌘P shortcut.
- Terminal lines no longer stay hidden after the typing animation: it
now uses step-start, because steps(1) could end at 99.999ms and
never show the line.
- Terminal markers stick to the visible right edge, so a narrow
terminal never cuts one in half, and feature headings align across
columns.

Walkthrough
The menu-bar section now displays the app screenshot alongside terminal examples for appearance, usage, and workspace commands. It updates the feature list, responsive layout, and terminal playback behavior.
Changes: Menu-Bar Section
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Menu-bar presentation and layout docs/index.html, CHANGELOG.md
The section replaces switchable views with side-by-side screenshot and terminal examples. The feature list and responsive layout are updated.
Terminal playback docs/index.html
Terminal lines are hidden until at least 35% of the terminal enters the viewport. Playback then reveals and animates the lines. Setup is skipped when reduced motion is requested or IntersectionObserver is unavailable.
Ducksss/codex-profiles#96: Adds the profile appearance and menu-bar quota features described in this section.
Ducksss/codex-profiles#97: Adds the menu-bar section and the switchable views that this PR replaces.

reached, rather than as soon as isIntersecting becomes true. Account for
viewports too short to reach 35% by using the maximum attainable visibility as
the threshold in that case; only then disconnect the observer and start
playback.

The observer's first callback reported isIntersecting as soon as the
terminal touched the viewport, so a page loaded with only its top edge
showing started typing early. Playback now waits for 35% of the
terminal, or for it to fill most of a viewport too short to show 35%,
so the terminal can never stay hidden.
