docs(docs): verify Search Console and document the host-root robots.txt - #104
Adds the Google Search Console verification meta tag (google-site-verification) to the homepage head. Once deployed, the maintainer can verify the https://ducksss.github.io/codex-profiles/ property and submit the sitemap. I used the meta-tag method rather than Google's HTML file, because test/site/geo-test.mjs requires every .html file in docs/ to be a real page listed in the sitemap. Google accepts either method.
CONTRIBUTING.md used to describe https://ducksss.github.io/robots.txt as a 404. It now says the file lives in the new user-site repo Ducksss/ducksss.github.io. That repo holds only robots.txt, which allows every crawler and points to this sitemap. The section also says to keep Allow: / for the account's other project sites and to keep the local template in step.
The comment in docs/robots.txt now points at the same repo. The template's directives match the live root file line for line.
Testing
make check passes, including ShellCheck. It started before the meta tag was added; node test/site/geo-test.mjs passes on the final tree, and that's the only test that reads the page head.
Compared the template's directives with the live https://ducksss.github.io/robots.txt: identical.
After the user-site repo went live, these all return 200: /robots.txt, /codex-profiles/ with its sitemap.xml and llms.txt, /Portfolio/ and /stardusts/.
Scope and compatibility
Affected scope: project website head and contributor docs only. No CLI, app default or Desktop profile changes.
Compatibility impact: none. Search Console verification needs this deployed with the Pages workflow dispatch before the maintainer clicks Verify.
Checklist
I ran make check; if the environment lacks ShellCheck, I ran make test and documented the missing lint result instead.
I did not add code that reads, copies, prints, parses, uploads, compares,
or migrates auth tokens or ChatGPT cookies.
Desktop changes preserve the stock app default session and use the
original signed app bundle. (No Desktop changes.)
I did not claim that CLI and Desktop account equality can be inspected or verified.
I updated documentation for user-facing behavior changes.
Updated crawler guidance to identify where the site’s root robots.txt is maintained and how crawler policies should be kept consistent across project sites.
Clarified that sitemap submission to verified search engine properties is still needed for indexing.
Site Configuration
Added a Google Search Console verification tag.
Updated the robots.txt template comment to point to the corresponding host-root file.
- Adds the Google Search Console verification meta tag to the homepage,
so the maintainer can verify https://ducksss.github.io/codex-profiles/
and submit the sitemap. A meta tag is used instead of Google's HTML
file because the GEO test requires every HTML file in docs/ to be a
real page listed in the sitemap.
- CONTRIBUTING.md now says the host-root robots.txt lives in the
Ducksss/ducksss.github.io user-site repository, which allows every
crawler and advertises this sitemap, instead of describing it as a
404. The docs/robots.txt comment points at the same repository.

Walkthrough
The change adds a Google Search Console verification tag and updates crawler guidance to identify the host-root robots.txt location, describe its policy, and note sitemap submission requirements.
Updates the guidance to identify the host-root robots.txt as the crawler policy source and describe policy synchronization and sitemap submission. The template comment now points to the user-site repository.
The documentation may mislead maintainers about sitemap requirements; the change is otherwise low risk.

Google treats a sitemap as a hint and Bing does not guarantee indexing
from one, so CONTRIBUTING.md now recommends console submission for
discovery and coverage reports instead of calling it necessary.
