frontend(feat): group the menu by profile with quota rings - #95
Rebuilds the menu-bar popover around profiles, following the approved canvas redesign (first version: grouping, search and keyboard launch, quota at a glance).
Grouped by profile. Each profile leads a group with its workspaces nested beneath it, pinned first and then by last launch. This replaces the profile filter. Workspaces whose profile is missing follow the groups and name it.
Search-first header. Search and the gear share one line. Typing selects the first match, so Return's target is visible, and the footer names what Return and ⌘Return open.
Faster launch. Clicking a row opens it. ⌘Return and ⌘-click open the other destination. The gear menu's Return opens in replaces the ChatGPT/Terminal control and keeps the saved openDestination preference.
Less chrome. Rows drop their Open buttons. The ⋯ button shows with the hover or selection plate and stays visible on rows that need repair, which also offer Locate…. Right-click shows the same actions.
Glanceable quota. Each profile shows its tightest Codex window as a figure ("7% · 5h left") beside a 20-point ring. Low and critical use a darker orange and red in light mode (lighter tints in dark mode), so the coloured figure keeps 4.5:1 contrast. The profile's ⋯ menu lists every window with its reset time and when it was checked.
The popover is 360 points wide. Previews render at 2x on any display.
Not in this PR: profile colours and symbols, the dot for an open ChatGPT window (it needs process detection), and the opt-in figure beside the menu-bar icon.
New interaction checks cover nesting and title-column alignment, a missing-profile workspace after a divider, search selecting its first match, ⌘Return from search, the Return opens in choice and footer, hover-revealed and right-click actions, the usage lines in profile actions, and quota colours in light and dark.
Not verified: the live popover in the menu bar (translucency, real hover, VoiceOver). That still needs a manual check on macOS.
Scope and compatibility
Affected scope: the macOS menu-bar companion only. CLI, app default and named Desktop launches are unchanged.
Compatibility impact: the profile filter and the destination control are gone. The saved destination carries over as the Return opens in choice. ⌘1–9, ⌘K, ⌘R and Escape behave as before.
Checklist
I ran make check; if the environment lacks ShellCheck, I ran make test and documented the missing lint result instead.
I did not add code that reads, copies, prints, parses, uploads, compares,
or migrates auth tokens or ChatGPT cookies.
Desktop changes preserve the stock app default session and use the
original signed app bundle.
I did not claim that CLI and Desktop account equality can be inspected or verified.
I updated documentation for user-facing behavior changes.
Browse workspaces grouped beneath their profiles, with search across profiles and workspaces. Search selects the first matching launchable item.
Open a selection in the default destination with Return or click, and use ⌘Return or ⌘-click to open it in the alternate destination. Choose the default in settings.
Access row actions by hovering, selecting, or right-clicking.
Improvements
See each profile’s tightest quota window, remaining share, reset details, and color emphasis when usage is low. Profile actions show details for every quota window.
Use a compact menu that adjusts to its contents.
Documentation
Updated the guides and preview to reflect the redesigned menu and its shortcuts.

llms.txt and the previews are updated.

The macOS launcher groups workspaces under profiles and replaces separate profile and destination controls with search and row-based interactions. Return uses the configured destination; Command-Return and Command-click use the alternate destination. Profile rows show quota details for the tightest window, and previews render at a minimum 2× scale.

The store filters targets by search and orders matching profiles before their workspaces. Workspaces without a listed profile follow the groups. The selected-profile filter is removed, and OpenDestination.alternate identifies the other destination.

The menu uses a 360-point layout with grouped profile and workspace rows, search, and an options menu. Row clicks and Return open in the default destination; Command-click and Command-Return use the alternate destination. Row actions are available through hover, selection, and context menus. The preview includes a billing API workspace and renders at a minimum 2× scale.
Usage selection chooses the unreset window with the lowest remaining percentage, preferring the later reset on ties. Profile rows show a percentage, duration, and quota ring. Profile action menus list window usage and reset details.

Explanation
The title names the main change: the macOS menu is regrouped by profile, and quota rings show each profile's usage. The raw summary confirms nested workspaces under profiles, a tightest-window quota ring, and the new 360-point layout. The title's "frontend(feat):" prefix is a conventional commit scope, and the change is a macOS menu-bar app rather than a web frontend, but the prefix does not make the title misleading. The title is concise and specific.

Explanation
Docstring coverage is 32.61% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 46 functions across 7 files.

⚠️Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Replace the string comparison that decides whether the footer shows key hints.
updateFooter() treats the store as idle only if store.statusMessage equals one of two literals. The same literals appear in WorkspaceStore (the property default and loadSnapshot()). If either side changes its wording, the comparison fails without any error. The footer then shows the status message permanently and never shows the ↩ / ⌘↩ hints.
Expose the idle state from WorkspaceStore and use that here.
♻️ Proposed refactor
Add this to WorkspaceStore.swift, next to the other status messages. Reuse the constants where the store assigns statusMessage:
staticletidleMessages:Set<String>=["Choose a profile or workspace","Create a profile to get started"]varisStatusIdle:Bool{Self.idleMessages.contains(statusMessage)}
Then change line 290:
- let idle = ["Choose a profile or workspace", "Create a profile to get started"].contains(store.statusMessage)+ let idle = store.isStatusIdle

The footer decided whether to show the Return and Command-Return hints
by comparing the status message with two literals that the store also
set. Rewording either side would have left the footer stuck on a stale
message without any error.
The store now keeps its resting prompts in one place and exposes
hasStatusNews, which the footer uses. A store test covers the resting
prompt and a reported outcome.

When an available usage reading contains an expired window, usageItems(for:now:) returns only awaiting a fresh reading. The profile actions menu therefore omits that window’s reset time, despite listing every window with its reset time.

The profile's actions listed each window with its reset time, except a
window whose reset had already passed, which said only "awaiting a
fresh reading". It now reads "5h: reset at 14:20 · awaiting a fresh
reading", worded in the past like the tooltip. An interaction test
covers it.

main is #95's final tree squashed (ff32520), which this branch already
contains as 6db4cd9, so the merge keeps this branch's tree unchanged.

Resolve conflicts with #95: keep the redesigned docs/index.html (its
change rewrote the old page's menu section, which this branch replaces),
keep both changelog entries, and ship the menu preview #95 committed as
docs/menu-dark.png. The terminal sample still matches the merged CLI's
output apart from reset times.
