The Polish formula language, as Excel's Polish edition spells it. Split out of #1807 at the reviewer's request; that PR holds only the interface catalog. Rebased on current main (d1db71d).

Changes

  • Every function whose Polish name differs: 434 (was 102), in crates/formula/src/input/pl.rs. The other ~80 GridCraft functions keep their English name in Polish Excel too (MAX, COS, MOD, LET, LAMBDA, MAP…).
  • Error values on entry and display: #ZERO!, #DZIEL/0!, #ARG!, #ADR!, #NAZWA?, #LICZBA!, #N/D, #POBIERANIE_DANYCH, #ROZLANIE!, #OBL!. #N/D! (the pl-pl ERROR.TYPE page spelling) and English spellings are accepted too.
  • Table specifiers #Wszystko, #Dane, #Nagłówki, #Sumy, #Ten wiersz, with ; between bracketed parts (Tabela1[[#Nagłówki];[Kwota]]). A column whose name holds ; is shown bracketed so it round-trips.
  • PRAWDA/FAŁSZ, ; arguments, decimal comma, \ array columns. Files, the API and the engine keep English syntax.
  • Locale code generalised (aliases(), boolean_names(), error_prefix(), table_reference()) rather than a second hard-coded branch. Spanish behaviour is unchanged.
  • Names are compared with the shared same_name from calc: LET and LAMBDA names ignore case in any script #1996, so =jeżeli(...) matches JEŻELI and a LET name fałsz is matched by FAŁSZ.
  • Function help (argument hint, descriptions) follows the interface language, as on main since the function-help change, so this PR adds none: Polish descriptions and argument names belong to the Polish catalog (i18n: Polish interface catalog #1807). Until then Polish formulas show the English help with Polish function names and ;.

Sources for the names

  • PhpSpreadsheet's locale/pl/functions (MIT), cross-checked with a second independent table: the 430 names both agree on are used as they are.
  • Where they disagree or one is missing, Microsoft's pl-pl support pages decide (X.WYSZUKAJ, REGLINX.ETS, #ROZLANIE!, #OBL!, the structured-reference specifiers).
  • Six recent functions appear in neither table nor in a pl-pl page I could find: BYROW WIERSZAMI, GROUPBY GRUPUJ.WEDŁUG, PIVOTBY PRZESTAWIAJ.WEDŁUG, PERCENTOF ODSETEK, TRIMRANGE PRZYTNIJZAKRES, VALUETOTEXT WARTOŚĆ.NA.TEKST. These come from @brzuchal's observation in Excel for the web in Formulas in Polish on the formula dialects #1678. Thanks!
  • All 102 earlier names match the new table. On DATEDIF/NORMDIST/NORMSDIST/SWITCH the two tables disagreed and Formulas in Polish on the formula dialects #1678's observation matches PhpSpreadsheet, which is what's used.
  • One open point: FORECAST.ETS*/FORECAST.LINEAR are REGLINX.ETS…/REGLINX.LINIOWA in both tables and on Microsoft's pl-pl forecasting page, while Formulas in Polish on the formula dialects #1678 saw the English names in Excel for the web. This uses the documented names; English entry works either way.

Tests

  • crates/formula/tests/polish_input.rs: names, separators, decimal comma, arrays, display round-trip, defined names, Unicode case, all ten error values both ways, table specifiers and separators.
  • crates/calc/tests/polish_function_names.rs: every English key is a GridCraft function, no Polish name is listed twice, and none equals another function's English name.
  • Locally on Windows, after the rebase: cargo fmt --check; cargo clippy -D warnings for formula, calc and ui-egui; tests for formula and calc, and the ui-egui formula tests.

Relation to other PRs

📝 Walkthrough

Formula input and display now support Polish function aliases, booleans, errors, separators, and structured references. Parser handling and function help use the selected locale. Tests and documentation cover this support.

Changes: Polish Formula Locale

Layer / File(s) Summary
Polish formula input and normalization
crates/formula/src/input.rs, crates/formula/src/input/pl.rs, crates/formula/src/lexer.rs
FormulaLocale adds Polish localization data for functions, errors, and structured references. Locale-aware parsing, printing, separators, and recursive normalization use the selected locale. Alias matching compares Unicode characters after uppercasing.
Parser locale handling and input tests
crates/formula/src/parser.rs, crates/formula/tests/polish_input.rs, crates/calc/tests/polish_function_names.rs
Parser stores the selected locale and recognizes non-English boolean aliases in array constants. Tests cover Polish input and display, round-trips, English parsing, Spanish booleans, errors, structured references, and function-alias consistency.
Polish function help and localization records
crates/ui-egui/src/formula_locale.rs, docs/formula-input.md, ROADMAP.md, docs/localization-parity.md
Function help lookup includes Polish signatures and descriptions, with existing fallback behavior for unmatched functions. Documentation and revision records describe Polish formula-entry support and its locale-specific syntax.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to c23e8

Polish formula conversion is added while interface-language selection remains a documented limitation; the inspected English and Spanish paths remain intact. No actionable merge blocker is established.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to c23e8

The change adds localized formula syntax without adding calculation privileges. The inspected application path still converts localized input to canonical English formulas, and Polish is not yet selectable through the interface. Use by applications outside this repository remains unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — For the inspected repository callers, the added reachability is alternative syntax for existing formula expressions, not additional evaluator authority. External callers can explicitly select the public Polish locale, but their usage and exposure are outside the available evidence.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Localized spellings normalize into existing expression forms. Defined-name callbacks and LET/LAMBDA binding checks take precedence over alias substitution, and recursive normalization retains a depth limit. These preserve formula interpretation boundaries; they are not authorization controls.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Input normalization operates on a newly parsed, per-call expression and returns an error rather than a partially normalized result. Display normalization uses a cloned expression. The conversion itself therefore does not introduce a shared-workbook mutation or a persistent partial-conversion recovery state.

Closing in favour of #1678 (on top of #1522's formula dialects), as offered above. I compared the tables: all 102 Polish names here match #1678's, which has 429 names checked in Polish Excel, plus errors and table specifiers, and confirms the \ array-column separator I couldn't verify. Happy to help test #1678. #1807 (interface) stays open.

Reopening so the maintainers can choose between this and #1678. I'm extending it to full coverage (all functions, error values, table specifiers) on the current main; I'll post an update when it's pushed. Happy to close it again if you go with #1678.

Pushed: the PR now covers the whole Polish formula language: all 434 functions whose Polish name differs, error values, and table specifiers with ;. It's rebased on current main. The description lists where each name comes from, including the six recent functions taken from #1678's Excel observation.

- FormulaLocale::Pl: all 434 functions whose Polish Excel name differs, in
crates/formula/src/input/pl.rs. Names come from PhpSpreadsheet's pl table
(MIT) cross-checked with a second independent table; where they disagree
or are missing, Microsoft's pl-pl pages decide, and the names storytold#1678
observed in Excel for the web fill the rest. Polish keeps MAX (only
  MAXIFS is MAKS.WARUNKÓW).
- PRAWDA/FAŁSZ, `;` argument and `\` array-column separators, decimal comma.
- Polish error values on entry and display (#DZIEL/0!, #N/D, #ARG!,
#ROZLANIE!, #OBL!...); #N/D! and English spellings stay accepted.
- Table specifiers (#Wszystko, #Dane, #Nagłówki, #Sumy, #Ten wiersz) with
  ';' between bracketed parts.
- The locale tables are generalised (aliases()/boolean_names()) instead of
hard-coding Spanish, and the parser keeps the locale instead of an `Es`
flag; names are compared with the shared same_name, so `jeżeli` matches
`JEŻELI` and a LET name `fałsz` is matched by `FAŁSZ`. Spanish behaviour
  is unchanged.
- Function help follows the interface language, as on main: Polish
descriptions and argument names belong to the Polish catalog (storytold#1807).
- Tests: crates/formula/tests/polish_input.rs and
crates/calc/tests/polish_function_names.rs (every Polish name belongs to a
known function and none shadows an English one).
- Docs: ROADMAP.md and docs/localization-parity.md.

No interface language selects the locale yet; once a Polish catalog lands,
Language::formula_locale maps Pl to it.

Rebased onto current main (d1db71d) and squashed into one commit (8081b59), since the same conflicts came back in each of the four. Changes from the rebase:

  • Names are compared with the shared same_name from calc: LET and LAMBDA names ignore case in any script #1996; the local eq_ignore_case is gone.
  • The parser keeps its locale and takes main's allow_union; normalize walks flat operator chains in a loop as on main, with the locale passed through.
  • The Polish help table in formula_locale.rs is dropped: on main function help follows the interface language, so Polish descriptions and argument names belong to the Polish catalog (i18n: Polish interface catalog #1807). The description is updated.

Locally on Windows: cargo fmt --check, cargo clippy -D warnings for formula, calc and ui-egui, tests for formula and calc and the ui-egui formula tests.
