Adds Polish (pl) as an interface language. Polish formula entry is split out into #1883.

Changes

  • crates/ui-egui/src/i18n/pl.rs: all 970 keys the other catalogs translate (ribbon, menus, Backstage, dialogs, tooltips, PivotTable pane), following Excel's Polish wording («Narzędzia główne», «Zablokuj okienka», «Malarz formatów»…). pl-PL / pl_PL.UTF-8 select it on first run.
  • Polish counts don't take one plural form (2 tygodnie / 5 tygodni), so the "{n} … ago" patterns use abbreviations or the instrumental, which read the same for every count (3 tyg. temu, przed 5 laty).
  • Ribbon tabs now use a Tab| key when a catalog has one, so the Insert tab reads «Wstawianie» while the Insert command stays «Wstaw». Only pl and pt have that key; other languages render as before.
  • Formulas stay English in this PR.

Tests

  • Polish added to the catalog-coverage test, locale-tag test and Backstage ages test.
  • Locally on Windows: cargo fmt --check, cargo clippy -p gridcraft-ui-egui --all-targets -D warnings, ui-egui tests, cargo xtask layers.

Overlap

#650, #1091 and #1565 also add a Polish catalog. Against the 970 keys the catalogs on main translate: this PR and #1091 cover 970, #1565 518, #650 441. Only one should merge; if the maintainers pick another, I can send missing or different entries from this pl.rs as a follow-up against it.

Not covered

  • Grid number and date formats stay en-US (crates/numfmt), and boolean cell values still show TRUE/FALSE.

Also adds my own entry to contributors/people.toml.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added Polish as an interface language, with translations for 970 labels, including dialogs and ribbon tabs.
    • Polish locale tags are recognized, and Polish is available among the supported language options.
    • Untranslated content continues to fall back to English; formulas and grid number and date formats remain unchanged.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved ribbon tab translation handling for languages where tab labels differ from command names.
  • Documentation
    • Updated language coverage and roadmap information to reflect Polish support.

Hi! This is my first contribution here, so the CI workflow is waiting for maintainer approval (action_required). Could someone approve the workflow run and take a look when there's a moment? The branch has no conflicts with main. Happy to split it into a UI translation PR and a Polish formula-entry PR if that's easier to review. Thanks!

I'm not approving yet, for two reasons.

  • Other open PRs add Polish already. #650 (interface, the oldest, no conflicts), #1091 (interface, 970 labels), #1565 (ribbon and dialogs) and #1678 (formulas, a draft). None has a review yet. Only one of the interface catalogs should merge, so could the maintainers pick one? Then this PR's pl.rs can be compared against it for missing or better entries.
  • It mixes two changes. The interface catalog (i18n/pl.rs, i18n.rs, ribbon.rs, backstage.rs) and the Polish formula locale (formula/src/input.rs, parser.rs, polish_input.rs) are separate features, and the formula locale refactor touches the Spanish path too. You offered to split them in your comment, and I'd like that: one PR for the interface, one for formula entry.

I'll look at the Polish entries and the FormulaLocale generalisation once it's split and the interface base is chosen.

Hosted CI has not built this head: the workflows are waiting for a maintainer to approve them.

  • storytold/gridcraft#650: Adds Polish language support and a Polish catalog, with related locale parsing and translation dispatch.

Suggested reviewers: fredapps, vangel76, echelon

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 37c45

Polish is selectable and its locale tags are recognized; the command help and error now advertise pl. The supplied language and translation coverage shows no concrete merge-blocking risk, so the change is ready for normal checks.

Security architecture risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 37c45

Polish uses the existing language-selection and preference mechanisms. The change does not introduce new command authority or a new security boundary, and no material security risk was identified in the reviewed paths.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The newly accepted command value affects the receiving application's interface-language preference and translated presentation. The reviewed language path does not gain access to engine commands, file operations, or additional service authority.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Caller-supplied language text is reduced to a recognized Language enum before mutation. Polish adds one recognized mapping; unrecognized values retain the existing error outcome instead of becoming dynamic command or resource identifiers.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — The language transition remains a synchronous, single-owner enum assignment. Repeating the same selection is idempotent, and invalid input cannot leave a partially applied language change. Existing test source checks supported-language assignment and serialization round trips; tests were not executed during this review.

Thanks for the review, done:

  • i18n: Polish interface catalog #1807 now holds only the interface catalog (i18n/pl.rs, i18n.rs, ribbon.rs, backstage.rs, contributors entry). Formulas stay English.
  • formula: Polish formula language (FormulaLocale::Pl) #1883 holds Polish formula entry (FormulaLocale::Pl, the aliases()/boolean_names() generalisation, polish_input.rs, Polish help in formula_locale.rs). It's based on main and doesn't depend on the interface PR. Nothing selects the locale until a Polish catalog lands; after that it's one more arm in Language::formula_locale.

Both pass fmt, clippy -D warnings and the formula/ui-egui tests locally. They only conflict with each other in the ROADMAP/localization-parity timestamp and history rows, and I'll rebase whichever goes second.

On the overlap: I'm happy for the maintainers to pick whichever interface catalog they prefer. If it isn't this one, I can send the missing or different entries from this pl.rs as a follow-up against it. The same goes for formulas: #1678 covers the same ground with a larger refactor. If that's the direction, I'll close #1883 and help test #1678 instead.

- Polish catalog (crates/ui-egui/src/i18n/pl.rs): all 900 keys the other
catalogs translate, following Excel's Polish wording; `pl` locale tags
  select it on first run.
- Ribbon tabs use a `Tab|` key when a catalog has one (Polish «Wstawianie»
tab vs the «Wstaw» command); other languages are unaffected.
- Tests: Polish catalog coverage and locale tags in i18n.rs, Polish ages in
  backstage.rs.
- Docs: ROADMAP.md and docs/localization-parity.md.
- Contributors: add Maciej Malinowski.

Formulas stay English; Polish formula entry is a separate PR.
- Status bar modes read like Excel's: Wprowadź / Edytuj / Wskaż.
- Merge Across «Scal wszystkie», Center Across Selection «Wyrównaj do
  środka zaznaczenia», Fill › «Seria danych…», Unhide «Odkryj», Paste
  Special «Pomijaj puste», Go To Special «Poprawność danych».
- Data Validation operators agree with «Dane» (równe, większe niż…).
- Docs: the catalog has 970 entries (~44%), not 900.

Rebased onto current main (49fe41a). The only conflicts were contributors/people.toml and the revision-history rows in docs/localization-parity.md. The catalog already covers the new Options|General / Sheet Options|View keys. cargo fmt --check and all gridcraft-ui-egui tests pass locally.

Added the Polish labels for the Import Text/CSV dialog from #2109 (8067bfe), so Polish is complete when both land. Until #2109 is merged these 14 entries are simply unused.

Many labels were drawn as-is: the generic form dialogs (Insert, Delete, Row
Height, Protect Sheet, Paste Special, Series…), Find and Replace, Go To,
Sort, Name Manager, Goal Seek, Solver, Spelling, the sheet-tab menu, the
status bar statistics, the Borders and Conditional Formatting menus, the
cell style gallery, the panes, message boxes and toasts. They now go
through the interface language, and the Polish catalog covers them.

Pushed a follow-up commit: most dialogs (Find and Replace, generic forms, message boxes, toasts), ribbon menus and galleries, the chart pane and the status bar were drawing literal English strings that never went through tr. They now translate, and the Polish catalog covers the new keys (about 230 entries). Other languages still fall back to English as before.
