feat(world-hop): pace hops against an estimated per-IP hop allowance - #1942
Conversation
Jagex limits hops and logins per IP; going over it returns "Too many login attempts" and LoginLockout then pauses all logins for 5-30 min. Nothing stopped scripts from draining that allowance in the first place. HopBudget models the allowance as a token bucket (default 390 tokens, 93 regained per hour, 20 kept in reserve for logins). Every HOPPING and LOGGING_IN transition spends a token, including manual hops. Microbot.hopToWorld waits for the next token once the allowance reaches the reserve, so hop-heavy scripts slow down instead of getting locked out. The client thread and the Swing thread get false instead of blocking. State is kept in ~/.runelite/microbot-hop-budget.properties, file-locked and keyed by SOCKS proxy host, so it survives restarts and is shared by every client on the same IP. A real lockout sets it to zero so the estimate corrects itself. The numbers are configurable under "World hop limit" in the Microbot settings, and /login on the agent server reports hopsAvailable and nextHopInMs. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01LjtEMzQHGuq4M1Mpqk9pPV
WalkthroughThe change adds configurable world-hop pacing backed by a token budget that refills over time and persists per network key. The plugin records qualifying world-hop and login transitions, and login lockouts reset the budget. World-hop calls wait for allowance on eligible threads and return Priority: ➖ Normal Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to Concurrent world hops can consume tokens reserved for logins. Make admission and token consumption atomic before merging, or explicitly accept the reduced reserve guarantee. Pre-merge checks |

Reserve hop tokens atomically before admitting a hop.
When the shared budget has exactly reserve + 1 tokens, concurrent clients can both see millisUntilHopAllowed() == 0 and pass awaitHopBudget() before either asynchronous recordHop() task runs. Their later recordHop() calls then subtract two tokens, reducing the persisted balance below the login reserve. The existing isHopping, cantHopWorld, and quickHopTargetWorld guards only coordinate one client instance and do not prevent this shared-file race.
Use an atomic refill/check/decrement operation in HopBudget at actual hop admission. Coordinate the corresponding HOPPING event accounting so the same hop is not charged twice. Preserve accounting for hops that do not use the admission operation, and release any reservation if later hop preparation fails.

… switcher F2P accounts holding a bond get a chatbox prompt "Want your members-only features back?" (F2PBondRedeem). While it is open the world switcher never loads, so every Microbot.hopToWorld call failed with "World switcher did not load in time" until the prompt was closed by hand. MembershipPromptEvent is a BlockingEvent that clicks Close on F2PBondRedeem and on its sibling upsell prompts BondPrompt and MembershipBenefitsPromptHop. The tracked previous game state starts as UNKNOWN because MicrobotPlugin starts after the client already reached the login screen, so the first login after a launch went UNKNOWN -> LOGGING_IN and was not counted. Count every LOGGING_IN except one coming straight from HOPPING or LOGGING_IN, which also counts reconnects after a lost connection. Problem
Jagex limits how many world hops and logins one IP can make. Going over the limit returns "Too many login attempts". #1937 added
LoginLockout, which reacts to that screen by pausing all logins for 5–30 minutes. Nothing stopped scripts from using up the allowance in the first place. A shop script hopping every few seconds runs out in about an hour and then sits through the lockout. DreamBot handles this by tracking hops and slowing down before the limit is reached.Change
HopBudget(inutil/security) models the allowance as a token bucket:HOPPINGandLOGGING_INtransition spends a token, counted inMicrobotPlugin.onGameStateChangedand written off the client thread. Manual hops through the RuneLite World Hopper count too.Microbot.hopToWorldwaits for the next token once the allowance reaches the reserve, and shows "Hop limit - next hop in Xs" as the status. Stopping the script interrupts the wait andhopToWorldreturnsfalse. On the client thread or the Swing thread it returnsfalseinstead of blocking (ShootingStarPanel hops from Swing).falsebecause about half of the Hub scripts that hop ignore the return value: PestControl, Slayer, GiantMole, Mess, Thieving and others. They would carry on as if they had hopped.~/.runelite/microbot-hop-budget.properties. The file is locked while being written and keyed by SOCKS proxy host (ordirect), so it survives restarts and is shared by every client on the same IP. If the file can't be used, each client tracks hops on its own and logs one warning.GET /loginreportshopsAvailableandnextHopInMs.ARCHITECTURE.mdandAGENT_SERVER.mdare updated.Logins are never held back; the reserve exists so re-logins after breaks and disconnects still go through.
F2P membership prompt blocks hopping
During the live test, an F2P account holding a bond got the chatbox prompt "Want your members-only features back?" (
InterfaceID.F2PBondRedeem, group 269). While it was open the world switcher never loaded, and everyhopToWorldfailed with "World switcher did not load in time" until the prompt was closed by hand. The new
MembershipPromptEventis aBlockingEvent, likeBankJagexPopupEvent, that clicks Close on that prompt and on its sibling upsell promptsBondPrompt(group 20) andMembershipBenefitsPromptHop(group 805). The game cache confirms the layout of all three: chatbox height, two models, two text lines, then the button and close components.First login after launch was not counted
The tracked previous game state starts as
UNKNOWN, becauseMicrobotPluginstarts after the client has already reached the login screen. The first login after each launch wentUNKNOWN → LOGGING_INand was missed. EveryLOGGING_INnow counts unless it comes straight fromHOPPINGorLOGGING_IN, so reconnects after a lost connection count too.Known limitations
LoginLockoutstill covers runaway retry loops.Testing
:client:runUnitTests: 2,302 passed, 0 failed. New tests:HopBudgetTest: refill, reserve floor, capacity cap, lockout, disabled mode, a clock going backwards, sharing the file between clients and proxy keys, a corrupt file, an unwritable file, and an interrupted thread.MicrobotPluginHopCountTest: which game-state transitions spend a token.MicrobotConfigTest: default settings.MembershipPromptEventTest: finds each prompt's close button, ignores missing or hidden prompts, never touches the client thread when not logged in.Microbot.hopToWorldfrom its script thread. Settings were allowance 25, reserve 20:/loginreportednextHopInMsduring the wait.hopToWorldreturnfalsewithin 40ms without hopping.LOGGING_IN, so nothing is double-counted. The membership prompt didn't come up again during this run, so its fix is verified by unit tests and the cache layout.ClosedByInterruptException, so the budget fell back to the client's own count. The interrupt flag is now cleared around the file access and restored afterwards; a regression test covers it. Retested live after the fix.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
