ghostty-starship-wasteland

A post-apocalyptic Pip-Boy phosphor terminal theme. Includes a Starship prompt palette, a Ghostty green-phosphor color scheme, and a CRT shader (scanlines / screen curvature / phosphor bloom / flicker).

Pip-Boy wasteland terminal preview

Fan-made, inspired by the Fallout series. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Bethesda Softworks / ZeniMax. "Fallout", "Pip-Boy", "Vault-Tec" and "Nuka-Cola" are trademarks of their respective owners; the names are used here only to describe the aesthetic.

Layout (mirrors the installed paths)

ghostty-starship-wasteland/
├── starship.toml                          ->  ~/.config/starship.toml
└── ghostty/
    ├── config                             ->  ~/.config/ghostty/config
    └── ghostty-shaders/
        └── in-game-crt.glsl               ->  ~/.config/ghostty/ghostty-shaders/in-game-crt.glsl

ghostty/config references the shader with the relative path ./ghostty-shaders/in-game-crt.glsl, so as long as you keep the directory layout above, the path will resolve correctly after install.

Requirements

  • Starship (prompt): brew install starship
  • Ghostty 1.3+ (terminal, must support custom-shader)
  • Any Nerd Font (for powerline / icon glyphs). This config defaults to Maple Mono NF CN. If you don't have it, change font-family in ghostty/config to a Nerd Font you have installed (e.g. MesloLGS Nerd Font, JetBrainsMono Nerd Font).

Install

Back up your existing configs first.

git clone https://github.com/winzipsdo/ghostty-starship-wasteland.git
cd ghostty-starship-wasteland

# Starship
cp starship.toml ~/.config/starship.toml

# Ghostty (including the CRT shader)
mkdir -p ~/.config/ghostty/ghostty-shaders
cp ghostty/config ~/.config/ghostty/config
cp ghostty/ghostty-shaders/in-game-crt.glsl ~/.config/ghostty/ghostty-shaders/in-game-crt.glsl

Apply:

  • Starship: open a new terminal tab, or run exec zsh
  • Ghostty: press Cmd + Shift + , in the window to reload (restart Ghostty for the first shader load)

Variant: New Vegas amber monochrome

starship.toml ships with a fallout_amber palette. Change the line at the top of the file from

palette = "fallout"

to

palette = "fallout_amber"

to switch to a New Vegas style amber monochrome look.

Tuning the CRT effect

All effect parameters live at the top of ghostty/ghostty-shaders/in-game-crt.glsl (roughly lines 15–87):

Parameter Effect
SCAN_LINES_STRENGTH How visible the scanlines are
CURVE Screen curvature (smaller value = more curved)
FLICKER_STRENGTH Flicker intensity (set to 0 to disable)
NOISE_CONTENT_STRENGTH / NOISE_UNIFORM_STRENGTH Noise
BLOOM_STRENGTH / BLOOM_SPREAD Phosphor bloom
BACKGROUND_OPACITY Background opacity

Reload with Cmd + Shift + , after editing.
