Greetings. I am F-D20, Foundry documentation and tabletop operations droid. I am fluent in several million forms of rules confusion, sheet configuration, and release-note interpretation, and I have been assigned to assist you with the SW5e Module for FoundryVTT.
This wiki has been prepared to help you understand how to use the SW5e Module, what it adds to the DND5e system, and where to look when you require further guidance. Whether you are a GM preparing a campaign, a player learning your sheet, a homebrew author constructing custom content, or a developer contributing to the project, this wiki is intended to provide a clear and orderly starting point.
This documentation is written for a mixed audience. Some readers may already be comfortable with FoundryVTT, data models, and module workflows. Others may be opening a virtual tabletop for the first time. The goal is to meet both groups somewhere near the galactic center: clear enough for newer users to follow, but detailed enough that experienced users are not forced to skim past the information they actually came to find.
This wiki focuses on SW5e Module behavior.
That means this documentation is mainly about:
- how the module fits into a FoundryVTT game that uses the DND5e system
- what SW5e-specific features the module adds or changes
- how to use the module’s supported sheets and workflows
- how to approach starships, powers, weapon properties, body modifications, and other module-supported features
- how to troubleshoot common SW5e Module issues
- how to create content or contribute to development
In short, if the question is about how this module helps FoundryVTT speak fluent Star Wars 5e, you are likely in the correct sector.
This wiki is not intended to be a full guide to FoundryVTT itself.
If you need help with Foundry core functionality such as scenes, tokens, permissions, journals, compendiums, user roles, or setup basics, these community resources will usually serve you better:
- FoundryVTT Discord
- Baileywiki
- Encounter Library on YouTube
Those are stronger resources for general Foundry learning. This wiki stays focused on the SW5e Module so it remains easier to navigate, easier to maintain, and less likely to resemble an overstuffed cargo hold.
Before following any guide in this wiki, check the project README and Release Notes for the most current compatibility information.
The current project direction targets:
- FoundryVTT v13.x
- DND5e system v5.2.5
If something in the wiki does not match what you are seeing in your world, the first thing to check is whether your Foundry version, DND5e system version, and module release version match the current supported release. Many mysterious malfunctions begin with a version mismatch. I have been informed this is less dramatic than a hyperdrive failure, but often just as disruptive.
Beta testers exercising the 1.4.0 feature set on a prerelease / current v.next beta artifact should follow Beta Test Guide — v1.4.0 (canonical repo copy: docs/beta-test-1.4.0.md on v.next).
On the current development version and for the upcoming 1.4.0 release, these are the topics you are most likely looking for first:
- Beta Test Guide — v1.4.0 for the active prerelease checklist
- Starship Sheet Guide for crew roster PC/NPC groups, responsible-crew / firing-crew proficiency, Active Crew removal, Recover Power / Ship’s Stores dialogs, Hull and Shield token bars, Max Fires/Round, and Role movement Active Effects
- Starship Combat, Conditions, and System Damage for Hull/Shield token resources, Role movement + Slowed/Power Routing behavior, and Damage Reduction presentation
- Powercasting Configuration and Overrides for Force/Tech point discounts, Powers Known counting, and NPC power pool behavior
- Attribute and Active Effect Keys for the single catalog of attribute keys, flags, token resource IDs, and roll terms
- Themes and Appearance for the removal of selectable SW5E theme modes and what branding remains
-
Getting Started / monster packs for Scum and Villainy (
snv-monsters) and Vesh's Galactic Holodex (veshs-galactic-holodex) - Sheets & Features for credits-only Galactic Credits wallets and related sheet polish
- Maneuvers & Superiority for Superiority Style, dice-max Active Effect behavior, and Maneuver sheet Effects/Description updates
Version 1.3.9 builds on the 1.3.8 starship foundation with several user-facing additions and polish passes. If you are updating from 1.3.8, these are still useful:
- Starship Sheet Guide for space-station variant rules, crew-role grouping on Core, the starship AC badge, and sidebar Damage Reduction
- Starship Combat, Conditions, and System Damage for flat Damage Reduction (SotG) and how it interacts with attacks
- Powercasting Configuration and Overrides for tech casting ability overrides alongside Force Light/Dark/Universal
- Maneuvers & Superiority for Edit-mode Superiority cogs and legacy superiority migration cleanup
- Sheets & Features for Special Traits localization, superiority sheet controls, and related actor-sheet fixes
Selectable SW5E themes documented in older 1.3.9 notes are superseded by the 1.4.0 appearance model — see Themes and Appearance.
Version 1.3.8 remains a major user-facing release. If you are returning to the module after using an older build, these are still the topics you are most likely looking for:
- Starship Sheet Guide for the current Core | Inventory | Features | Effects | Description starship workflow
- Starship Combat, Conditions, and System Damage for System Damage, Destruction Saves, and starship status behavior
- Blaster Reload and Ammo Use for the supported blaster Reload workflow, private Reload cards, and magazine-style ammo use
- Sheets & Features for actor-sheet changes such as powercasting configuration, body-mod systems, and gameplay-facing controls
If you are here because something changed and you want the shortest route to the answer, begin with one of these:
- How do I reload a blaster? → Blaster Reload and Ammo Use
- Why did I get a private Reload card in chat? → Blaster Reload and Ammo Use
- Where did the Crew tab go on starships? → Starship Sheet Guide
- Where did Active Crew go? → Starship Sheet Guide (removed in the 1.4.0 feature set; Pilot/Crew membership is used instead)
- How do System Damage and Destruction Saves work? → Starship Combat, Conditions, and System Damage
- Where is starship Damage Reduction? → Starship Sheet Guide and Starship Combat, Conditions, and System Damage
- How do Hull and Shield token bars work? → Starship Sheet Guide and Attribute and Active Effect Keys
- How do space stations work? → Starship Sheet Guide
- What happened to SW5E themes? → Themes and Appearance
- How do I configure Force or Tech powercasting abilities or point discounts? → Powercasting Configuration and Overrides
- Where are the Superiority Dice settings? → Maneuvers & Superiority
- Where are all the attribute / Active Effect keys? → Attribute and Active Effect Keys
- Where is the current beta test checklist? → Beta Test Guide — v1.4.0
If you are new to the module, these pages are the best place to begin:
Getting Started Learn what the module is, what you need before installing it, and what to expect after enabling it.
Feature Overview Get a guided tour of the module’s major features before diving into the details.
Sheets & Features Learn how the module supports SW5e concepts on actor and item sheets.
If you are running a game, these pages will be the most useful:
- Getting Started
- Feature Overview
- Sheets & Features
- Starship Sheet Guide
- Starship Combat, Conditions, and System Damage
- Blaster Reload and Ammo Use

These should help you prepare the table, brief your crew, and avoid unnecessary negotiations with the rules engine.
If you are mainly using the module during play, start here:
- Sheets & Features
- Blaster Reload and Ammo Use
- Themes and Appearance (branding after theme removal)
- Weapon Properties Support
- FAQ
These pages focus on what you are most likely to touch during a session: sheets, weapons, powers, appearances, and the occasional “why did that happen?” moment.
If you want to create or adapt custom SW5e content:
- Homebrew and Content Authoring
- Weapon Properties Support
- Powercasting Configuration and Overrides
- Attribute and Active Effect Keys (canonical path catalog)
- Compatibility & Limitations
These pages are for builders, tinkerers, and those brave beings who look at a perfectly functional item sheet and think, “Yes, but what if I added a custom rule?”

If you are not sure where to begin, this simple path works for most GMs:
- Read Getting Started
- Skim Feature Overview
- Use Sheets & Features as your first practical guide
- Move to Starship Sheet Guide if your game uses starships
- Use Blaster Reload and Ammo Use if your table uses reloadable blasters
- Use Troubleshooting when something does not behave the way you expect
You do not need to read the entire wiki from front to back. Most pages are written so you can jump in where you need help. Even the most diligent protocol droid would not recommend memorizing the whole archive before your first session.
The SW5e Module builds on the DND5e system rather than being a system itself. Because of that, some behavior you see will come from:
- the module
- the DND5e system
- Foundry core
This wiki will try to make that distinction clear whenever it matters. When a question is really about the SW5e Module, the guide should explain it directly. When a question is really about Foundry or general DND5e behavior, the guide will point you to the right external resource instead of pretending this wiki should teach everything.
A proper astromech knows which system it is repairing. This wiki attempts to do the same.
If you are having trouble, try these in order:
- Check the relevant page in this wiki
- Review Troubleshooting
- Check the project README or Release Notes
- If the issue is really about FoundryVTT core behavior, use the Foundry VTT Discord, Baileywiki’s Foundry VTT playlist, or Encounter Library’s Foundry VTT Basics playlist.
This order will usually get you to the answer fastest and help separate SW5e Module issues from Foundry or DND5e system behavior.
If you are here to run Star Wars 5e in Foundry, you are in the right place.
Use this wiki as a guide, not a wall of rules. Start with the pages that match what you are trying to do, and return to the rest when you need it. With a bit of preparation, a reliable crew, and only a modest number of unexpected system warnings, you should be ready for the table.
