  • build.gradle.kts: release builds sign with android/key.properties (gitignored) when it exists, and otherwise fall back to the debug key as before. This replaces the template TODO.
  • .github/workflows/release.yml: a v*.*.* tag builds a signed release APK and publishes it. It refuses to publish without the ANDROID_KEYSTORE_* secrets, so it never ships a debug-signed APK.
  • AGENTS.md: a Releases section, and the guardrail no longer claims release builds use the debug key. The phone's debug install can't be replaced by a release APK; switching it over means backup → uninstall → install → restore, and that's the user's call.

flutter analyze is clean, flutter test passes 29/29 (TZ=Europe/Warsaw), and the local flutter build apk --release is signed with the new key (SHA-256 32dad755…c7aa4589).

Walkthrough

The Android build now supports release signing from android/key.properties, with debug signing as a fallback. A GitHub Actions workflow runs on version tags, checks and tests the project, builds a release APK, and publishes it as a GitHub Release.

Changes: Android release

Layer / File(s) Summary
Android release signing
android/app/build.gradle.kts, AGENTS.md
The build loads release-signing properties when key.properties exists and otherwise uses debug signing. The documentation describes the signing behavior and the phone’s current debug-signed build.
Tag-triggered APK publishing
.github/workflows/release.yml, AGENTS.md
Version tags trigger dependency setup, analysis, tests, signing-property creation, APK building, and GitHub Release publishing. The documentation describes tagging, signing setup, local fallback behavior, and the steps to move the phone to a release build.

Explanation

The title "Release signing and a tag-triggered release workflow" matches the main changes in the changeset. The PR adds release-signing logic to android/app/build.gradle.kts, which loads android/key.properties and falls back to the debug key. It adds .github/workflows/release.yml, which runs on v*.. tags and publishes a signed APK as a GitHub Release. It also updates AGENTS.md with a Releases section and a revised signing guardrail. The title is concise, specific, and follows the PR objectives.

Remove write access from the build job. build-and-release grants contents: write before dependency resolution, tests, and the APK build. A compromised action or build dependency could use the job token. Checkout also persists the token by default. Set contents: read and persist-credentials: false, then publish the artifact from a separate write-enabled job that does not execute build dependencies.

Pin release-job actions to immutable commits.

actions/checkout@v4, actions/setup-java@v4, subosito/flutter-action@v2, and softprops/action-gh-release@v2 use movable refs in a workflow that grants contents: write and produces a signed release. Pin each action to a reviewed, full-length commit SHA. Keep the version tag as a trailing comment for readability.

Name the permission regrant step in the release migration.

The migration sequence ends at restore. The guardrail above says an uninstall cancels alarms and resets the notification, exact-alarm, and battery-optimization permissions. A restored backup brings back app data, not these OS permission grants. The Today screen flags each missing permission after install and links to the fix. The release procedure should name that check so the user does not miss it.

📝 Suggested documentation fix
- uninstall, install the release, restore -- the user's decision, never an agent's.
