feat(keychron): add Hall-effect keyboard protocol and driver - #6
Adds the Keychron Hall-effect (HE/TMR) protocol: the KC_HE (0xA9) command group on the VIA raw-HID collection (0xFF60:0x61), command versions 1-5.
Codec at @openmouse/keyboard-protocol/keychron: version/feature bits, profile info and names, actuation and rapid-trigger writes, profile buffer decode (keys, DKS, snap-tap, turbo/DKR/toggle), curve, live travel, calibration, axis type, single-key reset.
169-board HE catalog generated from launcher.keychron.com per-board definitions.
KeychronHidClient, registered in the driver list and HID filters, plus a keychron field on KeyboardStatus.
docs/keychron-support.md covers evidence, scope and gaps.
Not verified on hardware
Everything is derived from static analysis of Keychron Launcher. The tests pin byte layouts, not firmware behaviour. settingsReady stays false so hosts do not expose a settings surface yet. Open gaps: workMode/keyMode meanings, turbo/DKR writes, connection-type detection.
Test plan
npm test (257 pass), tsc --noEmit, npm run build
Open a real HE board: version/profile reads
setTravel + saveProfile round trip, ideally on a v5 board
Note
Add Keychron Hall-effect keyboard protocol and HID driver
Adds a protocol package (src/keychron/) with HE command builders and decoders, VIA keymap read planning and decoding, keycode legend/catalog resolution, and a catalog of HE products and 102 physical layouts
Adds KeychronHidClient in hid.ts with serialized operations for status, profiles, travel settings, curves, calibration, keymap reads, and keycode remapping with read-back confirmation
Registers the driver in the device registry, adds Keychron HID filters to SUPPORTED_HID_FILTERS, and exports the package subpath
Protocol behavior is documented in keychron-support.md, which notes that physical-board behavior has not been verified
Risk: HE timeouts fault the client session by default in KeychronHidClient.exchange; see hid.ts for the opt-out used by VIA protocol-version reads
Added support for Keychron Hall-effect keyboards, including reading device status and profiles, adjusting travel settings and curves, checking live key travel, and managing calibration.
Added a catalog of supported models and a public Keychron protocol entry point.
Documentation
Added details on protocol versions, supported operations, known gaps, and hardware-testing limitations. Physical-device behavior and write operations remain unverified.
Decode the KC_HE (0xA9) command group Keychron Launcher uses on the VIA
raw-HID collection (0xFF60:0x61): command versions 1-5, profile info and
names, actuation and rapid-trigger writes, profile buffer decoding (keys,
DKS, snap-tap), curve, live travel, calibration and axis type.
Add a 169-board Hall-effect catalog generated from Launcher's per-board
definitions, a KeychronHidClient registered in the driver list and HID
filters, tests, and docs/keychron-support.md.
Derived from static analysis of Launcher only; not yet verified on
hardware, so settingsReady stays false.

Walkthrough
Adds a Keychron Hall-effect protocol codec and raw-HID client. The change includes a product catalog, profile and device operations, status reporting, device registry filters, package exports, tests, and support documentation.
Changes: Keychron Hall-effect support
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Protocol codec and product catalog src/keychron/index.ts, src/keychron/products.ts, src/keychron/protocol.test.ts
Adds protocol frame builders and decoders for HE versions 1–5, plus a catalog of Keychron HE/TMR products. Protocol tests cover encoding, decoding, and catalog metadata.
HID client and status reporting src/drivers/keyboard-types.ts, src/drivers/keychron/hid.ts, src/drivers/keychron/hid.test.ts
Adds KeychronHidClient for serialized HID commands and profile, travel, curve, and calibration operations. Adds Keychron fields to KeyboardStatus and tests for HID behavior, timeouts, and close handling.
Adds Keychron HE device filters and registry support. Exposes the Keychron namespace and package subpath, updates the protocol entry-point table, and adds support documentation.
Some writes can report success after rejection or target an outdated profile slot. Resolve these write-path risks before relying on the new keyboard support.

Explanation
The title "feat(keychron): add Hall-effect keyboard protocol and driver" matches the main change. The PR adds a Keychron Hall-effect (KC_HE) protocol codec under src/keychron, a KeychronHidClient driver registered in the registry and HID filters, a keychron field on KeyboardStatus, and documentation. The title names the protocol and driver, which are the primary additions. It does not mention that the work is unverified on hardware, but a title does not need that detail.

🟠 Highkeychron/hid.ts:196
When the keyboard rejects selectProfile(), this code still sets info.current and resolves successfully, so later setTravel() and saveProfile() target a slot that was never selected. clearProfile(), writeCurve(), and startCalibration() likewise report success for rejected commands because they only match the subcommand; check keychronHeAcknowledged() before updating state or resolving these operations.

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — Adds Keychron Hall-effect protocol support and a catalog-restricted WebHID driver, with settings UI disabled pending hardware verification. Unresolved review concerns about rejected selections and stale profile targeting could direct persistent writes to an unintended profile and need resolution.

Remove the unsupported slot-decoding claim.
decodeKeychronProfileBuffer does not decode turbo, DKR, or toggle slot contents. It only exposes the key’s advanced mode and index. Update the table so consumers do not rely on unavailable data. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Validate keyMode and per-key buffer bytes before writing them to the frame.
setting.keyMode is written to out[next] without a range check. Uint8Array wraps silently, so keyMode: 256 goes on the wire as 0. Line 253 compares the unwrapped value, so the buffer is not sent. The board then reads 0 with an all-zero buffer, which is the per-key write mode.
Line 256 also masks buffer values with & U8, so -1 or 300 become different bytes without an error. Every other argument in this file throws RangeError for non-byte values. These two paths should do the same, because this frame writes to hardware.

Launcher's call sites (lazy chunks 595/547) define workMode as Global 0,
Static 1, QuickTrigger 2 and keyMode as 1 = every key, 0 = a 24-byte

A board that does not answer the VIA keymap or layer-count read faulted
the whole session, blocking later Hall-effect commands. Those replies use
a different command id from KC_HE, so a late one cannot confirm an HE
command; let the optional reads time out without faulting.
setKeycode writes one key with VIA dynamic_keymap_set_keycode and confirms
it by reading the key back. Keycode tables follow the VIA protocol version
the board reports (layer keys and the custom-key base differ before and
after QMK 0.19), the catalog builds a picker grouped by category with each
board's own custom keys, and remapWarnings flags replacing the only layer
key on a layer. Add encoder frames, the board custom keycode data, and
tests with a fake board that models the keymap.
