Does not open preview for .mmd files

It does not open .mmd file preview, only if there is a new diagram created, it then can preview other files.

I expected this to work like the way VS code handles markdown: if you open a .md file from the file explorer, you get a preview icon in the bar above the editor that lets you go to a split screen with the rendered preview on the right.

I finally noticed the "mermaid chart" panel in the bottom left corner, where there is a "Create new diagram" button. Used that, and the preview pane opens up.

I've been using VS Code with various extensions for probably 7 years now, and I don't recall any extension working like this. Completely non-intuitive.

Memaid.JS is a really elegant solution to embedding diagrams in documentation. Please don't prove Cory Doctorow right by using non-standard UI conventions to tryto funnel users into paid accounts.
