Face check
An idea where for OnePerID every account has some personally identifiable aspects. For instance a mugshot, but could be other things.
Someone could challenge:
- Person holding the account does not correspond to picture.
- Picture is not clear enough.
- Two accounts are infact the same person. (more?)
A video conference, or direct meetup the account shows up, people assess whether the challenge response shows they are indeed that person, if they're indeed the same person, or if the picture has sufficiently improved.
Additionally there would have to be some sort of reputation system that determines how much different votes count.
It obviously depends on the reputation system staying good, but that is another topic. How to make it work is not well-defined enough.
Dopelgangers might get mis-flagged now and then. Without three-way checks, they might be able to do many accounts because they can always both show up.
Clearly, attackers could hire staff, and use makeup to try cover up, making sure you can always pretend to be any two at the same time. It seems like a really expensive attack to carry out. To help counter this, i.e. makeup would have to be disallowed.(i.e. transgenders might not like it) Alternatively, some other means of identification is needed.
Disfigured people might have reasons to dislike it.
Next to having meetups/videochats, another approach is to show up at the door. This might be trickier on attackers, but is also somewhat more invasive,(particularly knowing-the-address, i mean when visiting they just ring the bell) and sometimes people are not at home.
A disadvantage is that the mugshot removes anonymity about who is in the system.
An open question is whether using 3d-generated fake people is possible.
