Harbor Angling: Tackle & Tension

Harbor Angling is an independent add-on for Starcatcher on Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge. It extends Starcatcher's fishing flow with tackle ratings, line tension, rod wear, water surveys, and localized interface text. Starcatcher is a required dependency; Harbor Angling is not a fork or modified distribution of Starcatcher.

Features

• A tension layer integrated into Starcatcher's fishing minigame, including warning thresholds and line-break handling.
• Three tiers each of fishing line and rod blank, with separate safe-load and fish-weight ratings.
• Persistent rod fatigue, fight-based wear, broken-tackle states, component replacement, and repair kits.
• Handling profiles for the Starcatcher rods referenced by the current compatibility code.
• A Water Survey Journal that reports nearby water depth, active/recorded fish counts, recommended tackle, weather affinity, and terrain-rarity information derived from live game data.
• Meal-related reel, recovery, and timing-window modifiers used by the fishing interface.
• English and Simplified Chinese text for Harbor Angling, plus permitted Simplified Chinese localization adaptations for supported Starcatcher content.
• Server-persistent balance and market-demand data with operator commands under /harbor.

Requirements

Playing

• Minecraft 1.20.1
• Minecraft Forge 47.x (the current development configuration uses 47.4.10)
• Starcatcher 2.3.19 or later — required

Harbor Angling declares both Forge and Starcatcher dependencies on both client and server. Install matching mod versions wherever the Minecraft instance requires them.

Building from source

• Java 17
• The included Gradle Wrapper (Gradle 8.8)
• A local, legally obtained Starcatcher development/runtime JAR at libs/starcatcher-2.3.19-FORGE-1.20.1.jar

The libs/ directory and third-party JARs are intentionally excluded from this repository. The build file also references LibTooltips and NeoBackports as compile-only local dependencies; provide compatible JARs locally if your development setup needs them.

Installation

1. Install Minecraft Forge for Minecraft 1.20.1.
2. Download and install Starcatcher 2.3.19 or a compatible later release from its official distribution page.
3. Place the Harbor Angling JAR in the instance's mods directory.
4. For multiplayer, use compatible mod and dependency versions on the client and server.

To build the project locally:

./gradlew build

On Windows Command Prompt or PowerShell, use gradlew.bat build. Build output is written to build/libs/ and is not tracked by Git.

Version status

• Latest stable: v1.1.1
• Development: v1.3.0-beta.1

v1.3.0-beta.1 is the current Beta testing build. It should be tested with backups before use in an important world.

Starcatcher dependency and compatibility

Harbor Angling is a standalone Starcatcher add-on. It calls Starcatcher APIs and integrates with Starcatcher fishing rods, fish data, collection data, tooltips, secret-note UI, and fishing-minigame classes. Starcatcher must be downloaded separately from its official distributor.

Harbor Angling does not redistribute Starcatcher's Java classes, textures, models, sounds, fonts, or GUI assets. It does include Simplified Chinese localization adaptations that the original Starcatcher author explicitly permitted to be distributed with Harbor Angling. That permission applies to those localization adaptations only; it is not a relicensing of Starcatcher as a whole. See THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md.

Simplified Chinese localization

The repository contains zh_cn resources for Harbor Angling and permitted localization adaptations for supported Starcatcher text, including fishing modifiers, tooltips, and secret-note content. These files provide translated text and presentation adjustments; they do not contain Starcatcher's original code or visual/audio assets.
