Writer's Trail my be a little hard to grasp at first. The tutorial in the beginning (that you can redo at any time) is long and that's because that's a lot of concepts for a new user to understand. Here I'll put a basic step-by-step description of the work-flow we intended to be follow, even though that is not strict and still subject to change (based on users opinions).
- Create a new project
- It can be anything that is written: novel, short story, essay, monograph, etc.
- If you already started it, set the starting wordcount, so the progress bar can work better. You could also set those as sessions, if you remember them all.
- Set up a target for yourself
- Set a period of days and how much you intend to have written by the end of them.
- The start is set for tomorrow by default, but there's no limitation of days. You can make even past targets.
- Do a writing session
- Set up a timer or just let the chronometer roll. Keep a note of how much words you've written and how long it take.
- You don't need to pause your chronometer when you stop for some reason (like a bathroom call). Just estimate the time you weren't writing and set it up in the proper field.
- See the stats changing
- When you add a session, it'll increase the progress of the project it was for. If such project is part of target and the session was within the target's period, them the chart will also reflect the change.
- The Stats session of your dashboard will also recalculate to show you the updated values. You don't have to wait at all.
This might be still a little confusing and maybe you want to follow a different path. If so, don't forget to add it as a suggestion in our feedback page or, if you are a GitHub user, maybe open a new issue in our tracker if you feel like it.
