One query in, path and line out.
n8n_knowledge_base is a catalog of 47 n8n operating docs with a single-file search CLI, nkb, on top. One command returns path, line, and snippet hits across hand-written workflow failure-mode patterns and per-vendor integration research records. Plain Node, one dependency, no build step.
- 🔍 Full-text search:
nkb search "<query>"greps the whole catalog and printspath:line:snippethits;--tagnarrows by front-matter tag. - 🧹 Catalog lint:
nkb lintchecks every failure-mode doc for required front-matter. - 🧮 Labor estimate:
nkb estimate <integration...>sums the research-waterfall tier hours across records and flags integrations with no record;nkb freshnessflags records past the 90-day decay line. - 📇 Integration research records: native n8n node name, auth type, complexity tier, and estimated hours per vendor. How a record gets made documents the research waterfall, the complexity rubric, and the tier-to-hours mapping behind those fields.
- 🧯 5 failure-mode pattern docs: symptom, root cause, and workaround for real n8n and voice-agent failures, plus a community-template index.
- 🕸️ Standalone tooling: dependency graph, dedupe detection, adoption stats, JSON-LD export, and an HTTP search shim ship as
node scripts/*.mjscommands. - 🔭 Search before you build:
nkb search,search-community(Zie619 corpus, ~4,343 workflows), and the n8n-MCP templates make "has someone already built this?" a query. See Search before you build.

Clone and install
git clone https://github.com/wranngle/n8n_knowledge_base && cd n8n_knowledge_base npm install
-
Ask it something
node scripts/nkb.mjs search "twilio 11200" -
Optional: put
nkbon your PATHnpm link nkb search --tag failure-mode
Real search and lint output
$ node scripts/nkb.mjs search "twilio 11200"
workflow-patterns/twilio-11200-stream-disconnect.md:5:# Twilio Error 11200 on Media Streams...
$ node scripts/nkb.mjs lint
lint ok: 6 failure-mode doc(s) checked
| Integration research 27 vendor records, each with native n8n node, auth type, complexity tier, and estimated hours: HubSpot, Salesforce, Twilio, Slack, Shopify, Calendly, RingCentral, Pipedrive, athenahealth, Google Ads, Google Calendar, Outlook, SQL, Excel, and more |
Failure-mode patterns webhook cold-start timeouts, cross-workflow error monitoring, Twilio Error 11200 stream disconnects, ElevenLabs tool-name collisions, voice-agent workflow patterns |
Point nkb search at it and ask it anything n8n. Named vendors are catalog entries, not integrations.

This repository is the research and estimation half of a larger system. It has two ancestors.
The first is the unified-presales-report product: a generator that turned a
pasted brief into client-ready documents backed by a deterministic labor
estimator and a FinOps engine. That code was ported to gtm_ops and verified by
a 13-agent port map (PORT_TO_GTM_OPS.md); the pipeline and pricing engine live
there now, not here. The knowledge base keeps the method and the records; gtm_ops
consumes them.
The second is a workflow-engineering methodology framework whose defining asset was a search over roughly 7,052 community workflows — the Zie619 library (4,343) plus the n8n-MCP template corpus (2,709). Searching those corpora before building was a required step. That discipline is restored in docs/search-before-build.md and scripts/search-community.mjs.
The tree shrank on purpose. The d3a277e purge (2026-05-18) deleted 290 files —
223 generated: true research-cache JSONs, 66 auto-generated fallback reports,
and a 108KB SQLite research library (261 rows) — taking the repo from 386 to 97
tracked files. The filter was right: generated cache is not curated knowledge.
The blast radius was not: it also took two hand-curated records and the
labor-estimation data layer, which existed nowhere else.
This restoration put back what the purge should have kept: the two curated
casualties and seven high-signal reports recovered from d3a277e (each tagged
recovered_from: d3a277e), the research-waterfall method, the community-corpus
search, and an estimate / freshness interface that reads the records instead
of leaving their hour fields decorative.
The raw corpora are archived off this public tree: the presales product as a git
bundle and the private unified-presales-report-archive repo; the generated
research corpus and the community-workflow corpora in the private
n8n-research-corpus-archive repo.
