Tutoom is a realtime collaborative whiteboard for teaching. The Tutoom plugin allows you to seamlessly create and join interactive whiteboard rooms directly within your Moodle courses.

- Moodle: Version 4.1 to 4.5
- PHP: 7.4 or higher (recommended: PHP 8.0+)
- Tutoom Account: API credentials from tutoom.com
Option A: Via Moodle Plugin Directory
- Go to
Site administration > Plugins > Install plugins - Upload the
mod_tutoom.zipfile - Click "Install plugin from the ZIP file"
- Follow the on-screen installation prompts
Option B: Manual Installation
- Extract the ZIP file
- Copy the
tutoomfolder tomoodle/mod/ - Visit
Site administration > Notifications - Click "Upgrade Moodle database now"
- Go to
Site administration > Plugins > Activity modules > Tutoom - Enter your Tutoom API credentials:
- API Secret Key: Your Tutoom API Secret key
- Configure optional settings:
- Recording Auto-start: Enable automatic recording when rooms start
- Activity Logging: Enable detailed activity logging
- Click "Save changes"
If you don't have API credentials yet:
- Create an account at tutoom.com
- Navigate to your account settings
- Generate your API Secret key
- Copy the credentials to your Moodle plugin configuration
- Turn editing on in your course
- Click "Add an activity or resource"
- Select "Tutoom" from the activity list
- Configure your activity:
- Name: Activity title (visible to students)
- Description: Activity instructions
- Recording: Enable/disable session recording
- Welcome Message: Custom message displayed when joining
- Role Assignments: Configure who can moderate sessions
- Save the activity
- Open the Tutoom activity
- Click "Start Room" (moderators only)
- The room is created and ready for participants
- Share the activity link with students
- Students click on the Tutoom activity
- Click "Join Room"
- Interactive whiteboard opens in a new window
- Collaborate in real-time with teacher and classmates
- After a session ends, recordings are automatically saved
- View recordings from the Tutoom activity page
- Click "View Recording" to play back the session
- Recordings are organized by date and session
