…olves src/main.ts opens with `import './style.css';` and nothing in the project declared what that module is. TypeScript 5.9 tolerated the undeclared side-effect import; TypeScript 7 does not, and Dependabot PR #2 (5.9.3 -> 7.0.2) has failed the build step since 2026-09-11 with src/main.ts(1,8): error TS2882: Cannot find module or type declarations for side-effect import of './style.css'. The bug was ours, not the bump's. vite ships `declare module '*.css' {}` in vite/client.d.ts; the project simply never referenced it, having neither a vite-env.d.ts nor "types": ["vite/client"] in tsconfig.json. One ambient reference file is the conventional fix and is what a Vite scaffold emits. Left unfixed, the lab could not take the TypeScript major at all: the PR would sit red forever, auto-merge would keep skipping it (correctly), and every later npm bump grouped behind it would queue up untested. The gate was never weakened to hide this - the build failed and the deploy and auto-merge jobs both skipped, which is the honest outcome - but a gate that stays red for a defect in our own source is a gate nobody can act on. Verified against the exact bump in an isolated tree: with typescript@7.0.2 installed, `tsc` reproduced TS2882 before this file and exits 0 after it, and `npm run build` completes.
