What changed

  • replace the cross-thread curses wake key with a nonblocking OS pipe watched
    alongside terminal input by select()
  • repaint pushed forum, mail, file, user, banner, IRC, and counter updates
immediately without keypresses or periodic polling
  • replace sequential Admin forum prompts with one editor showing Name and
    Overview Description together
  • add v1.6.1 at the far-right edge of every footer color bar
  • update both README mockups, architecture/operations docs, and the changelog

Root cause

The authenticated event-stream reader received and queued changes correctly,
but curses.ungetch() from its background thread did not reliably release the
foreground thread's blocking get_wch(). The screen therefore refreshed only
after the user pressed another key.

User impact

Idle TUI sessions now wake on the event file descriptor and reload only
affected visible resources. This keeps updates immediate while preserving the
low-bandwidth, no-polling design. Admins can also see and edit a forum's
category name and Overview description in the same dialog.

Validation

  • Python compile check
  • 40 unit/service tests passing locally (2 Linux-only SO_PEERCRED tests skipped
    on macOS)
  • dedicated blocked-main-loop event wake test completes in about 50 ms with no
    keypress
  • combined forum editor render/input test
  • XML validation for both SVG mockups
  • visual rendering review of both README screenshots
  • git diff --check
