At the moment if I want to change an albums info using metadata from MusicBrainz I have to edit every file one by one. With a library of more than 40 thousand songs this is a bit of a pain.
Is there a plan to have metadata lookup with MusicBrainz within the folder view? E.g. When selecting all songs within a folder (album) having an extra button next to Edit that's called Get metadata from MusicBrainz
Hi @suitux, thanks for picking this up! Just checking in – are you already working on it? If it helps, I’d be happy to contribute a PR. My idea would be an album-level lookup similar to Picard: search the release once by album + album artist, match the selected songs to its tracks (disc/track number, title, duration), show a field-by-field comparison, and write the chosen fields to all files in one go. Totally fine to leave it to you if you’ve already started 🙂
Thanks for merging #55 and shipping it in v1.14.0 so quickly! Since a few people are asking for this one too: if you haven't started on it yet, I'd be glad to take it on with the album-level approach I described above – just let me know. If it's already in progress, no worries at all.
@Hellraiser28 Keep in mind that the user should be able to bulk edit via MusicBrainz in any of the views of Tagr. I mean, In the Smart Playlists or Folders.
I have noticed, that when I try to fetch information on an album with various artists, I searches for the album as if the artist of the first track is the artist of the album. I then have to manually change the artist to "various artists" and search again - a very minor inconvenience. But is it possible to search on various artists, if the the different tracks has different artists?
Wow, thanks!!

@nielsha thanks for testing it! I've opened #64 with a fix: when the selected songs have no album artist and no artist appears on more than half of them, the search now starts with "Various Artists". @suitux so a separate issue shouldn't be needed, unless you'd like one for tracking.

Wow, You are fast!! Thanx!

Is this implemented in the latest version?
Hellraiser28 commentedon Oct 21, 2026
Not yet — it's in #58, which is still waiting for review. It'll be part of a release once it's merged.
nielsha commentedon Oct 22, 2026
Thanks. I'll just have to be patient then ;)
