#230

projectM doesn't work with Qt 5/6, shows corrupted graphics, version 4 of projectM breaks integration completely.
Since there is very little community interest as far as contributing to this project in general, and solving the projectM - Qt issues requires specific projectM and Qt OpenGL knowledge, it's very unlikely to happen.

Don't want to necro an old issue, just as a heads up:

We're currently reworking the way OpenGL is called/linked/resolved within the projectM library, adding a new external resolver API which application can use to pass in custom GL function pointers. This should certainly fix the GL function mixup which currently breaks Qt integration, as the Qt app can then resolve projectM's GL functions via QOpenGLContext::getProcAddress(), ensuring the proper functions are called by projectM.

Issue: projectM-visualizer/projectm#681
PR: projectM-visualizer/projectm#942

Apart from the GL issue, projectM has come a long way since it was integrated in Clementine (based on projectM 2.x from more than ten years ago). You can get recent standalone GHA builds to check how it looks now:

• Windows x64
• Linux x86_64
• macOS x86_64/arm64

Today I uninstalled Clementine which I've been using for several years, as soon as I learned qmmp had Project M integrated. It's that much of a priority for me as Pulse Audio doesn't play along with Blue Tooth and the stand-alone PM application.

(Now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure the reason I installed Clementine to begin with was it's integrated Project M back in the day)!

The Debian package qmmp-plugin-projectm is not installed with qmmp but even then there are 100 active users who go the extra mile to install it, which likely goes to show they find it an integral element of a music player's tool set, as I do (https://popcon.debian.org/main/by_vote).

100% reasonable, life is too short to spend time volunteering to work on features you don't personally care about but if your criticism of Project M was mostly about its technical state last year then please consider giving it a new look after this rework!

(As a disclaimer I came from a link in Project M's Discord. I hope I've been constructive rather than brigading or necroing).
