LR-EXP-DIALOG: the Export dialog updates, renames, duplicates and deletes a loaded preset (#2510) - #2641
The Export dialog's Preset menu always read "Choose…" and forgot which preset was loaded, Save silently replaced a preset of the same name, deleting a user preset needed the export.deletePreset command, and nothing could rename or duplicate one. The dialog now names the loaded preset, adds a * once its options change, and puts a user preset's name in the Save field. A menu beside a loaded user preset updates it with the current settings, renames it in place in the Preset row (Return renames, Esc cancels), duplicates its saved settings as " copy", or deletes it after a confirmation, and Save asks once before replacing an existing preset. The engine gains export.renamePreset {name, to} and export.duplicatePreset {name, to?}, which refuse a built-in's or another preset's name; a rename that only changes the letter case is allowed. The LR-EXP-DIALOG parity row and What's New describe the change.
Run with a one-line test fix on top (set_nonblocking(false) on the accepted socket, which #2627 also makes): on main, backend::tests::idle_close_reconnects_without_replaying_a_command fails on every Mac (the accepted socket inherits the listener's non-blocking mode), which stops CI at the test step.

Merge Risk: Low · previous review b31ca
Preset management can become misleading after external changes: the dialog may hide an existing preset or create a new one despite showing replacement confirmation.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to b31ca
The changes remain focused on saved export presets, with no new access route identified. Risk is low: failed saves and repeated operations can leave unexpected preset state, but no material security regression was established.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The immediate effects of the new handlers are confined to the active Session's user export presets and their preference persistence. They do not themselves execute an export or grant authority over another session. External callers already able to save or delete presets possess equivalent preset-writing authority.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
inferred — Replacement confirmation is tied to a reusable name rather than a preset revision, so external deletion, renaming, or name reuse can make it stale. This is a consistency limitation, not an established privilege-escalation path: the external command caller can already save and delete presets without dialog confirmation.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The new commands use the existing command-execution boundary and availability predicate. MCP can invoke Session commands directly; dialog confirmation is therefore workflow protection, not authentication or authorization. Authentication surrounding that transport was not established by this inspection.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
inferred — Default duplication is not idempotent: repeating a completed request creates another freely named copy. If completion is ambiguous, a retry can add an unintended preset. No automatic replay or security-sensitive amplification was established, and lost-response and persistence-failure recovery were not tested.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #2510 requires the Export dialog to show the selected user preset name, mark changed options, update the selected preset, provide Rename, Duplicate, and Delete actions, and confirm Save replacement. The changed dialog state and UI implement these flows. The engine adds export.renamePreset and export.duplicatePreset with validation for built-in names, existing names, and case-only renames. Automated tests cover the dialog flow, command validation, copied settings, and preference persistence. The current PR evidence supports all coding requirements.

Use the engine’s case-insensitive preset comparison.
A case-only external rename or case-variant save keeps the preset under its new casing. The open Export dialog then fails the exact-case check, clears preset.loaded, and removes the loaded preset’s management menu. The Save field still contains the old name.

Revalidate replacement confirmation when its target disappears.
The replacement confirmation can remain armed after an external delete or rename. When the dialog has no loaded user preset or has a built-in loaded, the cleanup does not check Pending::Replace. The stale Replace message remains visible, and the next click saves the name as a new preset instead of replacing an existing preset.
Clear or revalidate Pending::Replace independently of preset.loaded.

…re, and drops a Replace for one deleted (storytold#2510)
The dialog compared the loaded preset's name with the saved ones letter for letter, while the engine ignores case,
so a case-only rename through MCP or the control channel unloaded it and hid its menu; it now follows the new
spelling. A Replace question for a preset deleted or renamed elsewhere stayed armed, so the next Save made a new
preset while the dialog still said Replace; it now goes away with the preset.
Both outside-diff findings fixed in fbcf72d: the dialog now matches the loaded preset case-insensitively, as the engine does, and follows a case-only rename to the new spelling (menu kept), and a pending Replace is dropped when its preset is deleted or renamed elsewhere. Covered by export_dialog_follows_presets_renamed_or_deleted_elsewhere; each half fails without its fix.

ReviewerA — source-read COMMENT (not an approval)
I read the head of the diff: the Export dialog updates, renames, duplicates and deletes a loaded preset (#2510). export.renamePreset {name, to} looks name up among the user's presets only (so a preset saved before a built-in of its name existed can be renamed away from it), refuses a target that is a built-in's name or another preset's (case-insensitive, and a rename that only changes case is allowed), and saves the preferences; free_name(base) finds an unused base, base 2, base 3 up to 9,999 for duplicate. The error messages name the preset and the reason. The built-in name clash is checked after trimming, which matches how the lookup is done. Tests wanted: rename to the same name with other case, rename a preset to a name used by a built-in, duplicate of a name already at base 9999 (returns None, should be an error), and rename failing to save preferences (the in-memory change has already been made: either revert or apply after the save succeeds). I read about 28 lines. I have not run it, and no exact-head CI result exists for this head, so this is a source-read comment and not an approval. Nothing was run.
I ran nothing and have no exact-head CI result for this PR, so this is not an approval. Where a diff was long I read its code hunks rather than every generated or documentation line.
Thanks for reading it closely. Taking your four points in order:
Case-only rename and rename to a built-in's name: both are already in a_user_export_preset_is_renamed_keeping_its_settings. Web Small → web small succeeds ("a change of case is a rename"), and Web Small → JPEG (Large) is refused as "built-in".
Duplicate with every name up to base 9999 taken:duplicate doesn't return None there. It maps free_name's None to the error "no free name for a copy of Web", which nothing tested. 887d28c adds duplicating_a_preset_with_no_free_name_left_is_refused. With "Web copy" through "Web copy 9999" taken it gets that error and adds nothing, and an explicit free to still works.
Rename (and duplicate) failing to save the preferences: you're right, the in-memory change was kept. The next save of anything else would then have written it. Fixed in 887d28c: rename puts the old name back, and duplicate removes the copy, before returning the save error. a_rename_or_copy_that_cant_be_saved_is_not_kept opens a library whose prefs.json write fails. A rename and a copy are refused with the store's error and leave the presets as they were, and both work once writes succeed again. Without the fix the test fails with the rename isn't kept, left: ["Web Small"].
export.savePreset and export.deletePreset (already on main, unchanged here) keep their change in memory when the save fails, the same way rename did. I left them for a separate change, so this PR stays about the dialog.
