Remember the native window and add GNOME Wayland caption buttons - #2461
EffectCraft should reopen at its previous normal size or maximized state across interface sizes, while keeping one window-state store.
Keep window.json and the existing Tracker in the selected configuration directory as the only geometry store; eframe window persistence stays disabled.
Integrate current upstream changes, retain contributor and attribution records, and keep one concise contribution revision row in each of ROADMAP.md and docs/ui-parity.md.
This PR must wait for storytold/egui#3 to land. The dependency should then move to an approved commit on the shared repository's main branch; the current PR-only revision is not a durable merge requirement.
Validation on Linux, 30 Oct, at e750fbeb: full cargo xtask ci passed all eight stages, with 4,546 test pass results and the 32-crate WASM check. This follow-up has no native Windows or macOS validation.
The final 30 Oct follow-up only rearranges contribution metadata to avoid conflicts with newer upstream entries. Parsed contributor data and runtime sources are unchanged; the validation above remains the applicable evidence.
Pin the egui family to storytold/egui#3 (ba04bd7): saved geometry keeps its interface zoom, the last normal rectangle survives maximizing, X11 startup maximize is repeated after mapping, and GNOME Wayland gets Adwaita caption buttons. Let eframe save the native window for interactive sessions; the app's own saved geometry seeds the first launch and no longer overrides eframe's state. NOTICE, attribution links, progress docs and the contributor entry are updated.

EffectCraft now initializes its viewport from saved window geometry and changes window-state restoration and persistence. The PR updates the egui-family revision and related notices, records window behavior, and adds a contributor registry entry.
Changes: Window persistence and dependency updates
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Update the egui-family revision Cargo.toml, ATTRIBUTION.md, NOTICE, apps/effectcraft/Cargo.toml
The egui-family patches and bundled-font references use a new revision. NOTICE adds the sctk-adwaita 0.10.1 attribution and MIT license. The app enables eframe persistence and adds egui-winit.
Restore and persist window geometry apps/effectcraft/src/window.rs, apps/effectcraft/src/main.rs
EffectCraft seeds its viewport from saved geometry and checks whether eframe storage contains readable native window state. It uses native-handle restoration otherwise, and fits restored positions on X11. Tests cover native-state detection, position fitting, and viewport seeding. Eframe egui-memory persistence is disabled.
Record window behavior ROADMAP.md, docs/ui-parity.md
The project records describe native-record fallback, X11 position rescue, platform window behavior, and integration validation.

Merge Risk: Minimal · previous review fdad5
The restored X11 window position is fitted to an available monitor. No concrete merge-blocking risk remains.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to fdad5
The reviewed changes are confined to desktop window restoration and its supporting GUI dependencies. No expanded external access or privilege was identified. Recovery remains available through legacy window settings, although dependency-wide compatibility and platform behavior are not fully established.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The inspected persistence path affects the local user’s application window state. No path from network requests or project content to the new storage identity or window helpers was identified in the reviewed startup flow.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The control-server references named flush are writes to its response stream, not calls into window storage. The full-base comparison shows no change to that transport; it remains explicitly started for control mode and bound to loopback.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
inferred — Interactive processes share native storage without observed interprocess write coordination, so concurrent or interrupted writes can lose or corrupt native window state. Per-process shutdown waits for pending writes, and malformed state can fall back to legacy geometry. The inspected consequence is window-state interference rather than loss of project data or an authorization boundary.

Repin the egui family to storytold/egui#3's new head (69750b7): eframe now
drops its storage, joining the pending write, after the last save and before
App::on_exit, so an app that ends the process there no longer loses the
window it just saved; and persist_window = false no longer restores a window
saved by an earlier run. EffectCraft's control-channel sessions already set
persist_window = false; they now skip the restore too.

Preserve the native-window persistence override and the upstream desktop logic callback documentation.
Validation: fmt, Clippy, doctests, pdf-deps, layers, assets and WASM passed. Workspace tests retain the three previously reproduced upstream Noto Serif/style and wide-penumbra GPU failures; the affected engine, text and GPU crates are identical to upstream.

Record the tested synchronization and its validation limits in the roadmap.
Validation: Markdown whitespace checked; the preceding integration commit completed the documented runtime gates.

- Line 270: Update the `has_native_state` path around `saved_window` so restored
X11 windows are relocated when their saved position is on a disconnected
monitor. Preserve eframe’s restored size, zoom, and maximized state, and retain
the existing `window::restore` behavior for windows without saved native state.
- Around line 269-270: Update the has_native_state check in the window-opening
flow to decode the stored "window" value as eframe’s WindowSettings and treat it
as present only when decoding succeeds. This ensures window::restore runs when
the stored value is undecodable.

Retain the upstream craft-libs revision 92d392c and module refactors while keeping the window-restoration egui revision 69750b7 until storytold/egui#3 lands. Decode native window records before skipping legacy restoration, and relocate restored X11 windows onto connected monitors without replacing native size or maximize state. Add storage and monitor regressions.
Validation: Full CI completed every stage. New malformed-record and native-X11-position regressions passed. Fmt, workspace Clippy, doctests, PDF dependencies, layers, assets and 32-crate WASM check passed. The same three upstream font/GPU failures remain (two Noto Serif assertions and 15/4159 wide-penumbra pixels); their owning engine/text/GPU sources are unchanged from the merged upstream. Final edits after CI only update Markdown dates/history.

Thanks @abdallah-shehawey! This repins all 14 egui crates to storytold/egui 69750b71, the head of the still-open storytold/egui#3. That has to be reviewed and merged there first, and then this should pin a commit on that repo's main. Please also rebase on #1762 (main.rs), keep one window-state store (window::load / track already exists), and drop the agent-log banners from ROADMAP.md and docs/ui-parity.md. Retain the existing window.json loader, monitor fitting and Tracker; remove the duplicate eframe persistence store and skip stored geometry in control sessions. The merged upstream includes the macOS quit changes from storytold#1762. Remove the review/integration banners requested by the maintainer.
Workspace formatting/Clippy, doctests, PDF dependency policy, layers, assets and 32-crate WASM pass. All six native-window regressions pass, with 4087 test pass results overall. The same three upstream font/GPU assertions remain; their engine/text/GPU sources are identical to the merged upstream. The production feature tree confirms eframe persistence is disabled.

Date the one-store follow-up to 29 October, matching its status and revision entries. The runtime validated in c657e72 is unchanged.
Co-authored-by: Codex <noreply@openai.com>
Leave the upstream-owned status heading and history insertion point intact while keeping the native-window behavior in its existing progress records. Move only the existing contributor entry to preserve its parsed data and avoid an append conflict. The current target merges cleanly. Only documentation and contributor-entry order change; application source and the recorded runtime validation are unchanged.
Co-authored-by: Codex <noreply@openai.com>
Thanks @abdallah-shehawey, the single window-state store and the rebase are good. It's still pinned to 69750b71, the head of the unmerged storytold/egui#3 (whose head has since moved). That PR needs to land on storytold/egui first, and then this should pin a commit on that repo's main. Please also cut the 3–4 agent-log rows added to ROADMAP.md and docs/ui-parity.md down to one.
Keep the existing window.json/Tracker store and control-session isolation.
Retain the current upstream changes and one contribution revision row in each progress document.
Validation: cargo xtask ci passed all stages, with 4546 test pass results and the 32-crate WASM check.
Co-authored-by: Codex <noreply@openai.com>
Thanks @abdallah-shehawey! The single window-state store and the one-row entries in ROADMAP.md / docs/ui-parity.md look good. Cargo.toml (and Cargo.lock, ATTRIBUTION.md, NOTICE) still pin storytold/egui 69750b71, the head of the still-open storytold/egui#3, which isn't on that repo's main. Once #3 is merged there, please repin all 14 egui crates to the resulting main commit, and merge main (it conflicts in ROADMAP.md and contributors/people.toml).
Retain the existing contribution records away from the shared upstream insertion points. Move only my own opt-in record; the parsed contributor data and all runtime sources remain unchanged.

Thank you for this contribution! I reviewed it today and I'm holding it for now rather than landing it:
The real change lives in storytold/egui#3. It needs maintainer review and merge before EffectCraft can pin to it. Please coordinate with #1598, which targets the same GNOME Wayland caption buttons, and consider splitting window-geometry persistence from the Wayland controls.
Once that's addressed, it'll get picked up in a future batch. If you haven't already, please come join us on Discord: https://discord.gg/artcraft.

ReviewerA — source-read COMMENT (not an approval)
This is the same change as cadcraft#2194 for effectcraft: the egui family is repointed to a new revision of the storytold fork and the title says the native window is remembered and GNOME Wayland caption buttons are added. I read only the dependency hunk. Check the revision exists on the fork's main branch and is the one the cadcraft PR uses (the two apps should not drift), and that the lockfile changes match. The saved window position must be clamped to a connected monitor on restore. I did not read the application code, and I can't test Wayland here.
I ran nothing and have no exact-head CI result for this PR, so this is not an approval. Where a diff was long I read its code hunks rather than every generated or documentation line.
