Fixes #1963.

When several keyframes of a property are selected and the playhead sits on one of them, editing that property's value now moves every selected keyframe by the same amount. This is what After Effects does. Before, only the key under the playhead changed, so the motion path got bent instead of moved as a whole.

What changed (prop.set in crates/engine/src/commands/prop.rs)

  • If the playhead is on a selected key and at least one other key of the same property is selected, the change (new value minus the old value at that key) is added to each of the other selected keys, per component. This happens in the same undo step as the edit.
  • If the playhead is between keys, nothing changes: the edit only adds a key at the current time, as the issue asks.
  • Keys that are not selected, and keys selected on other properties, are left alone.
  • Moved keys stay inside the property's slider range, the same way the edited value already does. For example, Opacity never goes above 100.
  • Values that can't be offset are left alone: hold-only types (bool, enum) and paths/gradients, which have no numeric components.

Entry paths: dragging in the viewer (position, scale, rotation, anchor) and scrubbing or typing a value in the Timeline or Properties panel all go through prop.set, so they all get this behaviour. Separated Position goes through the per-axis X/Y/Z properties. This covers every property the issue lists. Scripting's setValueAtTime and setValueAtKey use prop.addKey and keys.set, so they still edit only one key, as in After Effects.

Tests (crates/engine/src/tests_set_selected_keys.rs)

  • value_edit_on_a_selected_key_offsets_all_selected_keys: Opacity keys 0/25/50 are all selected, the playhead is on the middle key, and setting 40 gives 15/40/65. Without the fix this fails, because the result is 0/40/50.
  • offset_selected_keys_stay_in_the_slider_range: setting 90 on the middle key gives 65/90/100. Without the fix this fails too.
  • value_edit_between_keys_only_adds_a_key: with the playhead between keys, the edit only adds a key, and the selected keys don't move.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • When you edit an interpolating value at the playhead on a selected keyframe, the same component-wise adjustment is applied to the other selected keyframes. Slider values remain within their allowed range.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Edits made between keyframes or at a different specified time leave other selected keyframes unchanged. Non-interpolating edits also affect only the target keyframe.

Walkthrough

prop.set now offsets other selected keys when an interpolating value is set at an existing selected key on the current layer time. Moved scalar values are clamped to the slider range. Tests cover this behavior and confirm that between-key and explicit-time edits do not offset other selected keys.

prop.set applies the target key's component-wise value delta to other selected keys when the edit targets an existing selected key at the current layer time and the value interpolates. Moved scalar values are clamped to the slider range. Tests cover selected-key offsets, slider bounds, between-key edits, and explicit-time edits.

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The new direct mutation scope is selected keys belonging to each resolved property. Existing selected-layer propagation and project synchronization can extend the effect to related state within the loaded project. The inspected change does not add a new authority source or cross-service dependency.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The new branch uses the existing resolved property and session selection. Selection matching requires both layer and property identity, and the branch requires an existing selected target key. It does not introduce a separate command or credential-bearing operation.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Failure containment is atomic for each individual property edit, not necessarily for the entire selected-layer operation. The existing twin-layer loop ignores individual errors, allowing other layers to commit. The PR preserves that best-effort boundary rather than adding cross-layer atomicity.

Require the playhead to match the selected key before offsetting.

When the playhead is between keys, a prop.set call with an explicit time on a selected key still enters this branch. For example, with selected values [0, 25, 50], a playhead at 0.5 seconds, and an explicit edit of the key at 1 second to 40, the command produces [15, 40, 65] instead of changing only the requested key. Check the playhead time as well as the write target before offsetting. The issue requires the playhead to rest on a selected key; the command also supports explicit write times. (github.com)

Hi @MarekSpodBiedry, thanks for this PR! main has changed a lot since it was opened, and it now conflicts with main, so it needs a rebase before we can review it for merging.

Most of the conflict comes from the shared module layout (#2491), which moved or split files this PR touches:

  • crates/engine/src/commands/prop.rs → crates/engine/src/cmd/prop.rs
  • crates/engine/src/lib.rs was split: most of its code is now in session/*.rs and siblings

When you rebase, please also make sure it fits the other recent changes:

CI (cargo xtask ci) now runs on PRs. Once it's green on the rebased branch, we'll take a look. Thank you!

I merged the current main into the branch and moved the code to its new places: the change now lives in crates/engine/src/cmd/prop.rs, and the test is crates/engine/src/tests/set_selected_keys.rs, registered in tests.rs. I also fixed the CodeRabbit finding: the selected keys are now offset only when the playhead is on the edited key, so a prop.set with an explicit time away from the playhead changes just that key. A test covers that case. The fix is in the second commit, "Offset selected keys only when the playhead is on the edited key (#1963)".

Add a multi-component selected-key test for transform/position.

The three selected-key tests in set_selected_keys.rs use only transform/opacity, a scalar property. None of them checks that an offset applied at a selected key moves every component of a multi-component value. A regression that offsets only the first component of Position would pass all three tests. The PR states that the delta is applied per component, so that contract is not covered. Add a test that selects keys on transform/position, moves the playhead to a selected key, sets a vector value, and asserts both components of every selected key.

Add a test for unselected keys on the edited property.

The new selected-key tests select every key on transform/opacity, so no test has an unselected key. The fixture also has no keys on any other property. A regression that offsets unselected keys, or selected keys on another property, would not change any assertion. PR #2007 states that unselected keys and keys on other properties stay unchanged, so this gap matters.

Suggested fix
     assert_eq!(values(&s, layer, prop), vec![0.0, 40.0, 50.0]);
 }
+
+#[test]
+fn value_edit_leaves_unselected_keys_unchanged() {
+    let (mut s, layer, prop) = setup();
+    let times = s.active_comp().unwrap().layer(LayerId(layer)).unwrap().props.find(prop).unwrap().keys.iter().take(2).map(|k| k.time).collect::<Vec<_>>();
+    s.state.selected_keys = times.into_iter().map(|time| KeyRef { layer: LayerId(layer), prop, time }).collect();
+    s.execute_checked("time.set", json!({"time": 1.0})).unwrap();
+    s.execute_checked("prop.set", json!({"layer": layer, "path": "transform/opacity", "value": 40})).unwrap();
+    assert_eq!(values(&s, layer, prop), vec![15.0, 40.0, 50.0]);
+}

This test selects the first two keys and leaves the key at time 2 unselected. The expected values are [15.0, 40.0, 50.0]. A regression that also offsets the unselected key would produce 65.0 and fail. A test for selected keys on a second property would need a second animated property in the fixture. That case is not covered by this suggestion.

Calculate the delta from the stored target key.

If the selected target key is muted, pr.value_at(target) evaluates the surrounding active keys instead of the target key. For keys valued 0, 10, 50, with the middle key muted, setting that key to 40 calculates a delta of 15 instead of 30. The other selected keys therefore move by the wrong amount. Read the old value from the key found by key_at before calculating delta. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

ReviewerA — source-read COMMENT (not an approval)

I read the diff: prop.set with the current-time indicator on one of several selected keyframes now applies the same change to all the selected keys of that property (after the comment: After Effects does this): it collects the selected key times of the layer and property first, and in the set closure, when more than one key is selected, the target is the current time, it is one of the selected times and a key exists there, and the new value interpolates, it computes the delta per component and adds it to every other selected key, clamping a scalar to the parameter's slider range; between keys, or at an explicit other time, only the one key is edited. A new test module set_selected_keys is registered. Clamping is right for a slider, but note the effect: if a key is clamped, the keys no longer move by the same change, which After Effects also does; and the delta uses components() so colours and vectors move per component, which can leave a colour component out of range: clamp those too, or say they are not. The whole change is one undo step (with_prop) and that deserves a test. A delta added to a value of an angle type (wrap at 360) or an integer step should be checked. I read the first part of the new tests only. I have not run it, and no exact-head CI result exists for this head. Nothing was run.

I ran nothing and have no exact-head CI result for this PR, so this is not an approval. Where a diff was long I read its code hunks rather than every generated or documentation line.
