Shapes: per-corner roundness for Rectangle Path (#1896) - #1897
Two Adobe community requests ask for independent Rectangle Path corner radii (mixed corner radius,
7 votes; per-corner roundness for shape layers, 50 votes). After Effects still has one Roundness;
this adds the shape-layer half as an EffectCraft extension. The mask half is out of scope (masks are
non-parametric paths). PR #1107's Round Corners is a path operation on arbitrary shapes; this is the
parametric rectangle property.
What changed
Properties: Rectangle Path gains a Per-Corner Roundness checkbox (off by default) and four
Pixels properties — Top Left / Top Right / Bottom Right / Bottom Left Roundness. They are
animatable and expression-driven like any other property. There is no AE match name, so they keep
EffectCraft match ids.
Creation: new rectangles initialise the four radii from their Roundness, so ticking the box
keeps the shape and each corner can then be tuned independently.
Geometry:effectcraft_path::rect_radii(size, pos, [tl, tr, br, bl]) builds the path clockwise
from the top-left with quarter-circle Bezier arcs. Overlapping radii scale down like CSS border-radius; negative and non-finite radii are square. rect() delegates to it, so a uniform
roundness clamps to half the shorter side as before.
Lottie:rc has one r. Four equal static radii export as that value; mixed or animated radii
export roundness 0 with a warning. Import copies r into the four values, so ticking the box on
an imported rectangle keeps the shape.
Tests
crates/path: uniform radii match the rounded-rect geometry and clamp, mixed radii, CSS overlap
scaling, negative / NaN / infinite radii.
crates/render: pixels of a rectangle whose only top-left corner rounds, the checkbox off ignores
the values, equal per-corner radii match Roundness.
crates/lottie: equal radii export the value without a warning, mixed radii export 0 with a
warning, checkbox off exports Roundness.
Rectangles saved by earlier versions keep their single Roundness and do not gain the checkbox (no
project migration in this change).

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Rectangle shapes now support independently adjustable radii for all four corners, with uniform rounding remaining the default.
Per-corner rounding is reflected in rendered shapes and converted paths. Imported rectangle radii are applied to all four corners.
Corner radii are scaled to fit the rectangle’s edges; negative or invalid values are treated as zero.
Compatibility
Export supports one shared radius. If per-corner rounding is enabled with differing radii, the rectangle exports with a radius of zero and a warning. Equal corner radii export as the shared radius.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
Rectangle paths now support four independently configured corner radii. The change adds project properties, rendering, and path geometry for per-corner roundness. Rectangle-to-Bezier conversion and Lottie import and export also handle the corner properties.

Summary
Build paths with individual radii crates/path/src/lib.rs
rect_radii builds paths with independently specified corner radii. It normalizes invalid dimensions and radii, and scales radii when they overlap. Tests cover uniform-radius equivalence, mixed radii, scaling, and invalid values.
Configure and render per-corner radii crates/project/src/build.rs, crates/render/src/shapes.rs, crates/render/src/shapes/tests.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/panels/timeline/tests.rs, crates/ui-egui/tests/it/ui_timeline_shapes.rs
shape_rect adds a disabled-by-default perCorner checkbox and four corner-roundness properties. Rendering uses the four values when enabled; otherwise, it uses uniform roundness. Tests cover rendering, property search, and timeline group collection.
Convert rectangles to per-corner paths crates/engine/src/cmd/paths.rs, crates/engine/src/tests/stubs.rs
Rectangle-to-Bezier conversion uses the four corner values when per-corner mode is enabled at the current time. A test checks the converted path geometry.
Import and export rectangle roundness crates/lottie/src/shapes.rs, crates/lottie/src/tests.rs
Lottie import assigns its single radius to all four corner properties. Export preserves the radius when per-corner values are equal, static, and nonnegative. Otherwise, it warns and exports zero. Tests cover these export cases.
Converting an expression-driven rectangle can change its shape. Align conversion with the rendered values before merging.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 0b232
The change is opt-in and retains the existing single-radius behavior by default. The inspected import and rendering paths retain their existing expression controls, and path conversion remains undoable. No introduced security vulnerability was established, but older-version file round-tripping and some persistent-reference behavior remain unverified.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The identified new exposure is additional property storage and bounded expression evaluation within imported or edited rectangle content. Enabling per-corner mode can evaluate four copied expressions instead of one, but the traced change adds neither independent imported corner inputs nor a new privileged sink.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Imported corner expressions continue through the existing property evaluator, expression host, and depth, execution, and time controls. The additional assignments do not introduce a separate execution path that bypasses those controls.

Explanation
Issue #1896 coding requirements are met. Rectangle Path adds a default-off perCorner checkbox and four pixel corner properties initialized from roundness. The properties support the existing animation and expression model. Rendering and Bezier conversion use the four values when enabled and retain uniform roundness when disabled. rect_radii supports mixed corners, invalid-radius handling, and CSS-style overlap scaling. Lottie imports r into all four properties and exports equal static radii, or zero with a warning for unsupported mixed or animated values. No mask support or migration is added.

Addressed in a701ed5: both per-corner branches now write rc.r as the Lottie property form {"a": 0, "k": value} (same as the uniform Roundness branch and the rest of the exporter), including the zero fallback; the export assertions check that object.
Hi @ki2pixel, thanks for this PR! main has changed a lot since it was opened, and it now conflicts with main, so it needs a rebase before we can review it for merging.
When you rebase, please also make sure it fits the other recent changes:
Layout (refactor: shared module layout (craft-contrib#20) #2491): put new code in the split files (the old paths only re-export). Each crate's integration tests are one binary, tests/it/main.rs with modules in tests/it/.
Strict clippy (Enforce Rust coding standards via Clippy #2496):cognitive_complexity (max 30), too_many_arguments and wildcard_imports are denied. Use craft_ui::ComboBox, not egui::ComboBox. Don't silence these with #[allow].
Correction on the CI line: this machine cannot make the whole test stage green for any branch — missing ffmpeg fixtures for the media/oracle tests, missing Microsoft font metrics, one GPU shadow-precision test, one long-movie timeout, and a benchmark-gate test that needs the un-moved target/. Unmodified main shows the same 19 failures, and this branch's set is a subset of it, so the PR adds no test failure.
Passing on 056f6e35: fmt, clippy --workspace --all-targets -D warnings, doctests, PDF dependency policy, layers, assets, wasm32.
The test sets only topLeftRoundness to 30.0. The other three properties are 0.0, so swapping their renderer assignments produces the same image and passes. Test each corner independently.

Update rect_per_corner_roundness_rounds_the_named_corners to test each corner
independently with a non-zero radius, verifying that the selected corner rounds
and the other three remain square. Keep the existing checkbox-off and
equal-radii checks unchanged.
Add a keyframed equal-radii case to the per-corner export test.
The per-corner export test sets all four corner radii with Value::Scalar only. No Lottie test exports keyframed corner radii. If the animated guard in the perCorner branch were removed, equal static radii would still export as rc.r, and every assertion in the test would still pass. Add a case where the four corner properties carry keyframes with equal values. Assert that rc.r is {"a": 0, "k": 0} and that the warning contains "per-corner roundness".

Reject negative values in every corner before exporting.
The current predicate checks nonnegativity only for radii[0]. The example [0.5e-6, -0.4e-6, 0.5e-6, 0.5e-6] passes the 1e-6 equality check, so the exporter writes a nonzero rc.r without a warning. This violates the Lottie contract for unsupported negative per-corner radii.

CI is green on 1a29d33f. Two Timeline tests that predate this PR needed updating for the new rows, which the rebase surfaced:
panels::timeline::tests::shape_group_inner_contents_is_elided: the Rectangle Path now lists Per-Corner Roundness and the four corner values, so the expected row list gained those five labels.
ui_timeline_shapes::timeline_colour_eyedropper_samples_the_comp: the extra path rows pushed the Fill colour row past the rows the Timeline fits, so the test keeps Rectangle Path 1 collapsed — it only needs the Fill row.
No behaviour change beyond the row list; the full cargo xtask ci run (including the UI suite) passes.
Thanks @ki2pixel! Main's effectcraft_path::rect now draws in After Effects' order (clockwise from the top-right; case 930) and crates/path/src/lib.rs conflicts: please keep main's rect() and draw rect_radii in the same order, so Trim Paths doesn't jump when the box is ticked. Also crates/engine/src/cmd/paths.rs:122 (Convert to Bezier Path) still builds from the single Roundness and ignores Per-Corner.
Rebased onto main (a8d83b97); both points are fixed in 0b2326a0:
rect_radii order — main's rect() is kept untouched. rect_radii now starts at the end of the top-right arc on the right edge (x1, y0 + tr) and walks down the right edge, then bottom-right → bottom-left → top-left → top-right, exactly like rect(). The Trim Paths test now also runs 0–25 % on a uniform per-corner rectangle and expects the same (200, −110) → (110, 150) contour as the rounded rect(), so ticking Per-Corner cannot move a trim.
Convert To Bezier Path — parametric_path checks perCorner and reads topLeftRoundness, topRightRoundness, bottomRightRoundness, bottomLeftRoundness into rect_radii when it is on (falling back to the single roundness otherwise), matching what the renderer draws. Test: convert_to_bezier_honours_per_corner_roundness sets TL 20 / BR 10 with the other corners square, converts, and asserts the resulting editable Path 1 equals rect_radii([120, 80], [0, 0], [20, 0, 10, 0]).
Validation after the rebase: effectcraft-path 54, effectcraft-render --lib 299, effectcraft-lottie 26, effectcraft-engine --lib 820, effectcraft-ui-egui --lib 334 (LC_ALL=C) and ui_timeline_shapes 14 — all green; clippy -D warnings and cargo fmt --check clean.

Add Per-Corner Roundness to Rectangle Path: a checkbox (off by default) and four Pixels properties (top-left, top-right, bottom-right, bottom-left). New rectangles initialise the four values from their Roundness, so ticking the box keeps the shape; the radii are animatable and expression-driven.\n\nrect_radii() builds the path clockwise from the top-left with kappa quarter-circle arcs. Overlapping radii scale down like CSS border-radius; negative and non-finite radii are square; rect() delegates to it, so uniform roundness clamps to half the shorter side as before.\n\nLottie rc has one r: four equal static radii export as that value; mixed or animated radii export roundness 0 with a warning. Import puts r into the four per-corner values so ticking the box on an imported rectangle keeps the shape.\n\nTests: path geometry and clamping, rendered per-corner pixels, Lottie equal/mixed/checkbox-off export.
The equal-radii and zero fallback branches wrote a bare number where the
uniform branch (and every other Value field) writes `{a, k}`; external
players may reject that form even though our importer reads it. Write
`{"a": 0, "k": value}` in both branches and update the export assertions.
Rebased onto main60f246d1 (which includes #2627's i18n duplicate fix). Final head d249f255, history kept as two commits (3bc1caae, d249f255). All points from the maintainer and CodeRabbit are in:
rect_radii keeps main's rect() untouched and now starts/walks clockwise from the top-right like it; the Trim Paths test asserts the same 0–25 % contour for a uniform per-corner rectangle.
Convert To Bezier Path reads perCorner + the four radii, and evaluates them (plus size/position/roundness/polystar type/direction) through an expression-aware EvalCtx, so expression-driven shapes convert to what is on screen.
Validation after the rebase: effectcraft-path 54, effectcraft-render --lib 319, effectcraft-lottie 27, effectcraft-engine --lib 834 (one unrelated 3D-instance test flaked once and passed on re-run), effectcraft-ui-egui --lib 350 and ui_timeline_shapes 15 — all green; clippy -D warnings and cargo fmt --check clean. Waiting for CI.
Merged, thank you @ki2pixel! It landed on main with a batch of community PRs, after a full workspace build and test run on Windows against the refactored main (fmt, strict clippy, about 4,100 tests, layers, assets and wasm). Before landing, I built Convert to Bezier Path's EvalCtx with ..EvalCtx::new(..), so it keeps picking up new fields.
…ier Path
primitive_shape and parametric_path built the same rectangle, ellipse and
polystar twice. One builder now, with the properties read through
accessors: the Viewer passes expression-evaluated values, the command the
values at a time, so picking and converting cannot drift apart (storytold#1897's
per-corner roundness then lands in one place).
