The format choices are distinguishable, but the dialog still inaccurately describes Japanese date output. The wording can be corrected as a bounded follow-up.
Security architecture risk:

The change remains within existing date/time formatting and document-editing paths. Validation, document targeting, and rollback controls are preserved; no material security risk was identified.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.Security review details
-
Security Blast Radius
- inferred — The inspected expansion affects computed document text and existing insertion operations in the active presentation. Kind and language select fixed formatting branches; they do not introduce an executable operation, external-resource destination, or additional authority.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
- observed — Date validation precedes formatting, table access uses checked lookups, and unknown kinds return None. Insertion independently validates command parameters and format availability before mutation. The added locale support does not replace those controls.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
- observed — The existing insertion transition snapshots document and selection state and restores them on application failure. The outer command retains rollback and undo handling. Non-caret insertion targets the current slide, and dialog cancellation does not invoke insertion.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winShow the format kind when Japanese samples are identical.
datetime3,datetime4, anddatetime5now have the same Japanese sample. This row renders only the sample, so users cannot identify which format kind they select. The dialog can therefore insert a different field kind from the one the user intended. Add the kind to duplicate sample labels while keeping the sample visible.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

field_text computed month, day and AM/PM names for English only, so a Japanese run's datetime1..datetime13 fields kept the text the file was saved with, and the Insert > Date and Time dialog listed no Japanese samples. Japanese now follows PowerPoint's Japanese Date and Time list: months 1月..12月, weekdays 日曜日..土曜日 in the full date, 24-hour times with no AM/PM form, and a Japanese layout for every kind (the mapping is a comment on the match). `ja`, `ja-JP`, `ja_JP` and `JA-jp` match by primary subtag, so `jam` doesn't; every other language still returns None and keeps its saved text, and the English strings are byte-for-byte unchanged. The abbreviated English kinds have no Japanese counterpart (months are numeric, and a two-digit Gregorian year reads as an era year in Japanese), so datetime5 folds onto the full date (2026年10月9日) and datetime6/datetime7 both give 2026年10月. That mapping is our best reading of PowerPoint's Japanese list, not an observation of it. Tests: every kind for a fixed Friday, the ja/ja-JP/ja_JP/JA-jp tags, a Sunday and a leap day, and the languages that still keep their saved text. The dialog test picks Japanese and inserts the sample. The date_sample comment in crates/engine/src/cmd/insert.rs no longer says the names are English only.

Addressed the documentation findings in the latest push (rebased onto current |
Japanese has no abbreviated month or day name, so datetime3, datetime4 and datetime5 compute the same text (2026年10月9日) and datetime6 and datetime7 both compute 2026年10月. The Date and Time dialog lists only the sample, so those rows were indistinguishable and a user could insert a different format from the one they meant. When two rows share a sample, the row now also names its kind — "2026年10月9日 (datetime4)" — and rows with a unique sample keep the bare text. Clicking still inserts the row's kind either way. The new kittest case proves the samples collide, the ambiguous labels are listed with their kind, a unique sample stays bare, and picking the named row inserts datetime4; it fails without the label change. Docs: the new revision-history row is dated 2026-10-20 but docs/localization-parity.md and ROADMAP.md still had Last reviewed/ Last updated 2026-10-17 and 2026-10-18. Put Last reviewed back to main's 2026-10-14 (the date the documents were reviewed), move Last updated to 2026-10-20 as every earlier update did, carry the change into ROADMAP's Change line, and add the ROADMAP revision-history row that a progress-log entry gets. Existing rows keep their original dates from main. Verified on the branch: deckcraft-ui-egui 218 passed, 4 ignored (222 run, incl. the four Date and Time kittest cases); deckcraft-text 84 passed; deckcraft-engine 332 passed, 1 ignored, plus 6 integration; cargo fmt --all -- --check clean; clippy --all-targets -D warnings on deckcraft-text, deckcraft-engine and deckcraft-ui-egui clean.

Conflicts resolved by keeping both sides: - ROADMAP.md: main's newer header lines and progress-log and revision-history rows kept, with the branch's 2026-10-20 date-and-time entry kept beside main's entry of the same date. Code merged without conflicts.

Describe Japanese samples accurately.
Japanese uses numeric month and day values. Some full-date formats include a named weekday. It does not use named month and day names in the same way as English. Update both descriptions to match the actual Japanese output.

Checked this against real PowerPoint, since the PR description says no Japanese Office instance was available. Only the field text was checked; I did not build or run the Rust code. Setup. Windows, PowerPoint 16.0 build 20527, driven through COM with temporary presentations that were never saved to the repo and were closed without saving. The system clock was Tuesday 2026-10-27 19:43:50. The Windows region and UI language are en-US, so a Japanese-region machine might differ. I wrote a slide with Result for

Only ja-JP takes the Japanese formats, since PowerPoint did not expand a bare lang="ja" like lang="ja-JP"; the ja/ja_JP/JA-jp spellings are still accepted, and bare ja falls back to the generic numeric date and the saved text. No kind shows a Japanese weekday.
