Part of #1103

Reuse Slides… inserted every slide of the picked presentation. It now shows a list of that presentation's slides (number and title, all ticked) with Select All / Select None and a Keep source formatting option, and inserts only the ticked ones after the current slide.

Tests: an engine test for the list and for inserting only the picked slides. fmt, clippy -D warnings, the engine and ui-egui test suites, assets, layers and the wasm check pass. The dialog itself wasn't opened in the running app (no desktop build here).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Reusing slides now uses the selected file’s contents, so the slides shown in the picker match the source used for insertion.
    • If a file can’t be read or slide insertion fails, an error appears in the status bar and the dialog stays open, allowing you to retry. Successful insertions report the number of slides added.
    • Slides are inserted into the presentation that was active when the picker opened, even if the current view changes. If that presentation has been closed, no slides are inserted.

Walkthrough

The Reuse Slides picker retains the source used to list slides and captures the intended insertion target. Insertion now returns a success result, reports status, and controls whether the dialog closes. Tests cover selection, source changes, target changes, and insertion failure.

Changes: Reuse Slides flow

Layer / File(s) Summary
Prepare the reuse source and insertion target
crates/ui-egui/src/lib.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/reuse_picker_tests.rs
When a reader is available, the picker reads the selected file once and uses its name and bytes for listing and insertion. A read error sets status and stops the flow. The picker captures the insertion target before opening the dialog.
Insert selected slides and handle the result
crates/ui-egui/src/lib.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/reuse_picker_tests.rs
reuse_slides uses the retained source and captured target, reports status, and returns whether insertion succeeded. The dialog stays open after failure. Tests cover slide selection, source changes, target changes, closed targets, and failed insertion.

Possibly related issues

Possibly related PRs

  • storytold/deckcraft#1260: It changes slide.reuseList, selected-slide reuse, and the Reuse Slides UI and tests.
  • storytold/deckcraft#1289: It addresses media remapping when slides move between presentations, which is connected to the slide-transfer behavior in this PR.

Suggested reviewers: nikitkara

Merge Risk: Low · up to 52d0f

Insertion can leave users viewing the wrong slide when they moved to a later slide while the picker was open. The slides still go into the intended presentation; this is a bounded issue to fix or explicitly accept before merging.

Security architecture risk: Low · up to 52d0f

The change improves consistency between the slides displayed and inserted and keeps insertion tied to the intended presentation. Remaining uncertainty concerns cancellation and restoration of editor state; no expansion of access was demonstrated.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The demonstrated mutation scope is the captured presentation within the existing session. The broader source-object method does not itself demonstrate added authority: SlideApp already exposes its session and a command dispatcher, and engine path/data loading is unchanged from the base.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Retaining source bytes prevents replacement of the selected file between listing and insertion when a host reader is available. Captured document and slide identities independently prevent an active-view switch from changing the insertion destination. The path-only fallback retains its pre-existing source-reload behavior.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Bind the captured destination to the dialog operation and clear it on every terminal cancellation path. Preserve or re-resolve selection by stable identity when temporarily targeting another location. These changes would strengthen lifecycle ownership and recovery without implying a verified security vulnerability.

Thanks — the picker is useful. Two CodeRabbit notes are still open and worth fixing: the dialog closes even when the insert fails (make reuse_slides return bool and keep the dialog open on failure), and the file is re-read at insert time, so a file changed in between can insert different slides than the list showed (keep the bytes you listed, or check they're unchanged). A kittest that drives the dialog would round it off.

Review on storytold#1109: the file is read once when the list is made and the same bytes
are inserted, so a file changed meanwhile can't swap the slides; `reuse_slides`
returns whether it inserted and the dialog closes only then. A kittest drives the

Thanks. Pushed a48abd6: the file is read once when the list is built and slide.reuse gets the same bytes, so a file changed in between can't swap the slides. reuse_slides returns whether it inserted; on failure the dialog stays open with the ticks, and the error is in the status bar. reuse_picker_tests.rs drives the dialog (ticked slides, file changed after listing, failed insert).

Keep insertion tied to the destination that opened the picker.

Session::edit mutates the active presentation, and slide.reuse derives the insertion position from the active selection. The picker stores no destination identity or slide. If the active presentation changes while reuseSlides is open, the selected slides can be inserted into the wrong presentation or position. Capture the original destination and reject insertion if it is unavailable, or restore it before calling slide.reuse.

The picker itself landed on main with 5b5fd5e. I rebased this PR, so it now only carries the review follow-up (95a8f90, previously a48abd6): read the file once, reuse_slides returns whether it inserted, kittest for the dialog.

…cker was opened for (storytold#1103)

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Restore the viewed slide by identity after insertion.

If the picker opens on slide A and the active selection moves to a later slide B in the same presentation, this branch calls execute_on_target. That helper saves B’s index and restores it after inserting slides behind A (crates/ui-egui/src/lib.rs, Lines 1559–1583). The insertion shifts B’s index, so the restored selection shows an inserted slide instead of B. Restore the viewed slide by its SlideId, or adjust its index after insertion.
