Follow these simple steps — you’ll be downloading videos within minutes:
Visit this link to download the application:
When you arrive at the page, look for the newest version (it’s usually at the top). Click the download button that matches your Mac type. You may see files like:
YTMac.dmg— the installation disk imageYTMac.zip— a compressed folder
Choose the one that's available. Download and run this file directly.
- If you downloaded a .dmg file, double-click it. A new window will pop up with the YTMac icon. Drag YTMac into your Applications folder.
- If you downloaded a .zip file, double-click it to unzip it. A folder named
YTMacwill appear. Open the folder and drag the YTMac icon into your Applications folder.
- Go to your Applications folder.
- Double-click the YTMac icon.
- If macOS shows a warning “YTMac can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software,” don't worry. This is normal for free apps not from the App Store.
- Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Scroll down to the “Security” section → Click Open Anyway.
- Confirm with your password if asked.
- Open YTMac. You’ll see a clean, friendly window.
- Go to YouTube in your browser, copy the link of the video you want (from the address bar or the Share button).
- Paste the link into the text box in YTMac.
- Choose your preferred video quality (e.g., 1080p, 4K) or select MP3 for audio only.
- Click the Download button.
- Wait a few seconds — your video or audio will be saved to your Downloads folder automatically.
After downloading, your files are automatically saved to:
/Users/[YourName]/Downloads/YTMac/
Inside that folder, videos and audio files are organized by date. You can also change the save location in YTMac’s settings.
To get the best quality, make sure the YouTube video itself is available in 4K. Then simply select 4K from the quality dropdown. YTMac handles the rest.
Want just the soundtrack? From the format dropdown, choose MP3 (or any audio format). YTMac will download the video and convert it to audio automatically.
If your internet is slow or you need a break, you can pause a download by clicking the pause icon next to it. When you're ready, hit resume — your video will continue from where it left off.
You can download multiple videos at the same time. Just paste several links (one per line) and click Download All. YTMac queues them up and downloads them one by one to avoid overloading your connection.
Solution: Reopen it by right-clicking the YTMac app icon and selecting Open. You may need to do this once per download. After that, the app will open normally.
Solution: Check your internet connection. If it’s fine, try pausing and then resuming the download. Very long videos might take longer to start. You can also try a different video URL.
Solution: Some YouTube videos are only available in lower quality. Check the video itself on YouTube for the available quality settings. Also, make sure you’re not connected through a VPN that limits bandwidth.
Solution: This can happen if you choose the wrong video stream. Try downloading using the MP4 (with audio) option. If the issue continues, pick a lower quality option — some very high-quality downloads require audio to be merged separately, which YTMac handles automatically.
Solution: Delete the downloaded file and go back to Step 1 to re-download YTMac. If you downloaded a zip, try downloading the .dmg file instead (or vice versa). Also, ensure you have enough free space on your Mac.
