Cannot find some titles

[strobbelo-ai]

I just searched for the following title, but unfortunately, it doesn't show up using the "Title" search option (or any other one, for that matter):
PORRIDGE RADIO - 7 SECONDS. Live in Madrid (19-3-25). Sala Copérnico Live.

Here is the YouTube link for it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pquBdxfsXY

I also tried searching using keywords from the title, but unfortunately without success.

Am I doing something wrong, or what is the reason for this?

TIA for your help :)

Thanks for the detailed report, including the exact query and the link. That helps a lot.

What's happening: you are doing nothing wrong. The recording is a live concert video uploaded to regular YouTube. The provider's text search queries the YouTube Music catalog using the "songs" search filter, and that catalog only contains official releases plus uploads YouTube has indexed as music. Live audience recordings like this one usually never enter that index, so no keyword combination will surface it through the current search.

Workaround that works today: paste the full YouTube link straight into Music Assistant's search box:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pquBdxfsXY

The provider recognizes YouTube URLs and resolves them directly to a playable track, skipping the catalog search entirely. From the result you can play it or add it to your library.

Planned fix: when track results are requested, the provider should also run YouTube Music's "videos" search filter and merge those results in. The result parser already understands video entries, so this is mostly a matter of issuing the extra query and ranking videos below catalog songs. That would let live recordings and other non-catalog uploads show up in normal keyword search.

Someone will look into this promptly. Leaving the issue open to track the videos-filter improvement; in the meantime the URL paste above should get you listening.

Wow, I am simply impressed by the quick and incredibly helpful response!
Many thanks for that.

I’m already looking forward to your planned fix :)

The promised fix is released: v1.1.0 (#79).

Track search now runs a second pass over YouTube Music's Videos tab, which indexes regular YouTube uploads like the live recording you linked. Catalog songs are listed first and videos below them, and a slot in the result window is reserved for videos so they cannot be crowded out when the catalog returns a full page of fuzzy matches. Uploads without a linked channel now show up under "Unknown Artist" instead of being dropped.

So searching for keywords like porridge radio 7 seconds madrid should now surface the recording directly; pasting the URL keeps working as before and remains the most precise way to grab one specific video.

To get it, re-run the installer script (or let the watcher add-on pick up the release) and restart Music Assistant. If the title still refuses to appear after updating, please reopen and say what you searched.

I have now installed the latest version (1.1.0), but unfortunately, the result is still the same for me.

Am I doing something wrong here?

I tried various searches under "Title":

• porridge radio madrid live
• porridge radio 7 seconds madrid
• porridge radio 7 seconds madrid live

The result is still the same; i.e., I cannot find the track I am looking for.
Entering the direct link into the search bar continues to work perfectly, just as before.

According to the log, I am definitely using the latest version—see the screenshot.

[sproft]

is it not the one second from the right?

[strobbelo-ai]

Yes, that's correct—that's the right song.
But then why can't I find it using the search queries I mentioned in my previous post?

Does it work for you?

[sproft]

Yes, the screenshot is from me finding it. It also works for me when entering "porridge radio 7 seconds madrid" with the newest version.

That is really, really strange.
According to the log, I am using version 1.1.0, and the screenshot below shows the result I get using the same search term.

Do I need to—or should I—uninstall anything else? Clear the cache or take any other steps?

You can try manually reinstalling the MA provider and then restarting it.

I think I’ve found the problem.
The search logic works fine in version 1.1.0.
The issue lies with the different search providers.

In your example, it looks like you only have YouTube enabled as a provider. I have YouTube, Spotify, and TuneIn Radio enabled.

If I disable Spotify and search using only YouTube and TuneIn, the desired track is found and displayed.

I strongly suspect, therefore, that the issue stems from the limited number of search results within Music Assistant itself.

Is there any way to permanently increase this limit?

Great detective work, and your diagnosis is right: the search logic in v1.1.0 works, the track just gets crowded out of the shared result window when several providers answer.

What's happening: Music Assistant merges every provider's results into one capped list per media type. The cap is set per request by the client (the server's combined search defaults to 25 per media type; the current search page requests 50 for a single-type search and 8 per type for "All"), and each enabled provider only gets a share of that window. On top of that, v1.1.0 deliberately ranks plain-YouTube videos below catalog songs in this provider's own list. Both effects stack: with the library, Spotify and TuneIn also filling the window, the video entries at the tail of the YouTube list fall past the cut before they are ever shown. Disable Spotify and the window suddenly has room again, which is exactly what you observed.

Can the limit be raised permanently? Not from this provider, unfortunately. The cap lives in Music Assistant itself and there is currently no user setting for it. A configurable search limit would be a feature request on the Music Assistant frontend.

Better workaround than disabling Spotify: recent Music Assistant frontends have a provider filter directly on the search page. Select only YouTube there for this kind of search and the whole result window belongs to this provider, so the video surfaces without touching your Spotify setup. Pasting the YouTube URL also keeps working as the most precise option.

What we will fix here: the provider should not pin every video to the tail of its list. When a video title matches your query clearly better than the fuzzy catalog matches around it (as it does for porridge radio 7 seconds madrid), it should be ranked near the front so it survives the merge even with several providers enabled. Someone will look into this promptly; leaving the issue open to track that re-ranking fix.
