Proposal: Add m/44'/501' to the default set of pre-derived Solana accounts #637

Description

@joaopeixoto13

Summary

This issue proposes adding the derivation path m/44'/501' to the Seed Vault's SDK default set of pre-derived Solana accounts. Current defaults include:

  • m/44'/501'/X'
  • m/44'/501'/X'/0'

Based on usage across the ecosystem, m/44'/501' is also a common and widely supported path that would benefit from being included.

Motivation

Seed Vault derives a set of common paths on initial seed authorization so wallet apps can enumerate accounts without requiring user authentication. According to the documentation, this is intended to improve initial UX by avoiding unnecessary biometric prompts.

The derivation path prefix m/44'/501' is commonly used on Ledger hardware wallets as the root path for creating Solana accounts. Because of this, when users migrate from a Ledger device to a Seed Vault SDK–enabled device (Saga, Seeker, etc.) and import the same seed phrase, their Ledger account may not appear among the default pre-derived accounts.

This can create a UX gap: software wallets like Jupiter Mobile, which rely on Seed Vault’s default enumerated accounts (Wallet.getAccounts), will not automatically display the user’s Ledger account. Including m/44'/501' in the Seed Vault’s SDK default derivation set would improve interoperability and prevent unnecessary biometric prompts when accessing these accounts for the first time.
