UniDebug is an open-source hardware project that serves as a unified debugger and prototyping tool for a wide range of microcontrollers and FPGAs. With versatile features and robust components, it provides a seamless debugging and development experience.
UniDebug integrates 4 independent microcontrollers, each running dedicated debug firmware:
| MCU | Firmware | Debug Protocol | Target |
|---|---|---|---|
| STM32F103 | ST-Link V2.1 | SWD/JTAG | ARM Cortex-M targets |
| STM32F103 | BlackMagic Debug | GDB/SWD/JTAG | ARM targets (no OpenOCD needed) |
| RP2040 | PicoProbe (CMSIS-DAP) | SWD | Raspberry Pi RP2xxx |
| STM32F103 | Custom | I2C/GPIO | Power and USB Hub supervisor, target voltage control, power management |
The FT2232H provides dual-channel USB High-Speed JTAG/SPI/I2C via MPSSE.
Commercial debug probes (Segger J-Link, Lauterbach) are expensive and single-protocol. UniDebug consolidates 4 debug probes + a high-speed FTDI interface into one USB-C board with ESD protection and configurable target voltage (1.2V–5V).
