A graph-powered career exploration application built with Flask and CognoDB.

CareerGraph helps users explore the relationships between career roles, required skills, projects and technologies.

Instead of treating career information as isolated records, the application models the relationships between these entities as a graph.

Why a Graph Database?

Career information is highly interconnected.

For example:

AI Engineer
→ requires Python
→ Python is demonstrated by Fake News Detection
→ Fake News Detection uses PyTorch

A relational database could represent this information using multiple tables and JOIN operations.

However, graph databases make relationship traversal a first-class operation.

CareerGraph uses graph traversal to answer questions such as:

• Which projects demonstrate the skills required by a career?
• Which careers share skills?
• Which technologies are used by projects related to a career?
• What projects are connected to a career through multiple relationships?

These relationships become particularly useful as the dataset grows.
