What is the "Default Editor" on Fedora?

I can't for the life of me get it to open any editor when I click the Edit Code button. I don't know what editor it's using but it's not any of the one I set in my system. I tried:

• Setting the default editor with xdg-mime
• Setting the default editor in Nautilus
• Setting EDITOR and VISUAL environment variables
• I tried alternatives but that seems to not be the way to do things on Fedora and I couldn't get it to let me set a default editor

I think I tried some other things too but I can't remember what all i tried.

I'm currently using this block of code here to open file on Linux.

The first thing it tries is to use xdg-open, so in this case you can just configure xdg-open such that it opens the file in your preferred editor.

Since the referenced xdg-open call in Desktop.java relies on the desktop environment's MIME type associations, check the output of xdg-mime query default text/plain to see if your preferred editor is actually registered for that file type. If that returns the correct application, could you verify if the Edit Code button is specifically attempting to open a file with a text/x-python or application/x-shellscript MIME type instead?
