Data Flow

User Action → Event → Bloc → Use Case → Repository → Data Source → API/DB

Getting Started

Prerequisites

  • Flutter 3.19+ installed
  • Dart 3.3+ installed
  • IDE (VS Code or Android Studio)
  • Git
  • iOS: Xcode 15+ (for iOS development)
  • Android: Android Studio with SDK 33+

Quick Start

  1. Review Documentation (2-3 hours)

    # Read in this order:
    1. ARCHITECTURE_PLAN.md (sections 1-8)
    2. QUICK_START_GUIDE.md (complete)
    3. IMPLEMENTATION_ROADMAP.md (phases overview)
    4. CLASS_DEFINITIONS.md (reference as needed)
  2. Create Project (1 hour)

    flutter create food_delivery_app
    cd food_delivery_app
  3. Setup Dependencies (30 minutes)

    # Copy pubspec.yaml from ARCHITECTURE_PLAN.md
    flutter pub get
  4. Create Folder Structure (30 minutes)

    # Follow structure from ARCHITECTURE_PLAN.md Section 1
    mkdir -p lib/core/{constants,theme,utils,routes,network,errors,services}
    mkdir -p lib/features
    mkdir -p lib/shared/widgets/{buttons,inputs,cards,loading,dialogs,app_bars,navigation,common}
    mkdir -p lib/config
    mkdir -p assets/{images,fonts,animations}
  5. Implement Core (4 hours)

    # Implement core infrastructure from ARCHITECTURE_PLAN.md Section 8
    # Start with:
    # - core/constants/
    # - core/theme/
    # - core/network/
    # - core/errors/
    # - config/dependency_injection.dart
  6. Start Features (Follow Roadmap)

    # Begin with Authentication (Phase 1)
    # Follow IMPLEMENTATION_ROADMAP.md sequentially

Development Commands

# Run app
flutter run

# Generate code (models, DI, etc.)
flutter pub run build_runner build --delete-conflicting-outputs

# Watch for changes
flutter pub run build_runner watch --delete-conflicting-outputs

# Run tests
flutter test

# Build APK
flutter build apk --release

# Build iOS
flutter build ios --release

Key Design Decisions

Why Clean Architecture?

  • Separation of Concerns: Each layer has a single responsibility
  • Testability: Easy to test each layer independently
  • Maintainability: Changes in one layer don't affect others
  • Scalability: Easy to add new features
  • Team Collaboration: Multiple developers can work on different layers

Why Bloc Pattern?

  • Predictable: Clear event → state flow
  • Testable: Easy to test business logic
  • Reusable: Blocs can be reused across screens
  • Community Support: Large ecosystem and documentation
  • Debugging: DevTools integration for time-travel debugging

Why Hive for Cart?

  • Fast: Faster than SQLite for simple use cases
  • Offline-First: Works perfectly offline
  • Type-Safe: Strong typing with adapters
  • No Native Dependencies: Pure Dart implementation
  • Easy to Use: Simple API

Why go_router?

  • Type-Safe: Compile-time route checking
  • Deep Linking: Built-in support
  • Web Support: Works on Flutter Web
  • Declarative: Cleaner than imperative routing
  • Guards: Easy authentication guards

Testing Strategy

Test Coverage Goals

  • Unit Tests: 80%+ coverage
  • Widget Tests: All custom widgets
  • Integration Tests: Critical user flows

Testing Pyramid

        /\
       / \ Integration Tests (5%)
      / \ Few but comprehensive
     /------\
    / \ Widget Tests (15%)
   / \ Test UI components
  /------------\
 / \ Unit Tests (80%)
/________________\ Test business logic

What to Test

Unit Tests:

  • All use cases
  • Repository implementations
  • Bloc event handlers
  • Utility functions
  • Validators

Widget Tests:

  • Custom widgets
  • Form validation UI
  • Loading states
  • Error states

Integration Tests:

  • Authentication flow
  • Order placement flow
  • Search and filter flow
  • Cart to checkout flow

Performance Optimization

Built-in Optimizations

  1. Image Caching: cached_network_image for all network images
  2. List Performance: ListView.builder for dynamic lists
  3. State Efficiency: Equatable for efficient comparisons
  4. Pagination: Implemented in all list features
  5. Local Caching: Hive for offline-first experience
  6. Debouncing: Search input debounced (500ms)
  7. Lazy Loading: Features loaded on-demand

Performance Targets

  • App Launch: < 2 seconds
  • Screen Transitions: < 300ms
  • API Response Rendering: < 1 second
  • Image Loading: Progressive with placeholders
  • Memory Usage: < 200MB average
  • Build Size: < 50MB (APK)

Security Considerations

Implemented Security Measures

  1. Token Management:

    • Secure storage using SharedPreferences (encrypted on iOS)
    • Token refresh mechanism
    • Automatic logout on token expiry
  2. API Security:

    • HTTPS only
    • Token-based authentication
    • Request/Response encryption
    • Certificate pinning (optional)
  3. Local Storage:

    • Hive encryption for sensitive data
    • No plain-text password storage
    • Secure payment info handling
  4. Input Validation:

    • Client-side validation
    • Server-side validation (API)
    • XSS prevention
    • SQL injection prevention (server-side)
