Overview
Open-source option for CLIPGen. These modifications allow the user to use CharLib (an open-source standard cell characterizer and Liberate-alternative) with ngspice (an open-source SPICE simulator and Spectre-alternative).
In the interest of keeping the barrier to entry low, CLIPGen can be run end-to-end with completely open-source tools. If the CharLib backend is select, the user does not need to have Liberate, Spectre, or any commercial PDKs installed.
Use
The default use of CLIPGen is still to use the Liberate/Spectre backend. To use CharLib/ngspice, the user only needs to modify the
config.jsoninput. They will changebackend: liberatetobackend: charliband populate thecharlib_executable,ngspice_executable,ngspice_library_pathfilepaths. CLIPGen will automatically direct all Liberate/Spectre calls to CharLib/ngspice instead.
