Contributing

This project is open source, and you are welcome to contribute to it.

This project is following trunk based development, meaning all features merged to main should be complete and ready to be deployed.

Pull Requests

Before submitting a pull request, make sure that there is an Open GitHub issue for the bug/feature. Be sure to reference the issue in your pull request title to make it easy to find for code reviewers.

When introducing UI changes, be sure include screenshots of the new UI in the pull request description.

Tests

Writing new tests for you changes are preferred but not required for UI changes. However, if you have a utility method or other piece of code that can be easily tested, tests maybe be requested before your pull request is accepted.

Be sure that your changes do not break any existing tests. If you need to remove a test please explain why that test is no longer needed in the pull request description.

Development

Prerequisites

  • Docker + Docker Compose
  • Node.js 24
  • (Optional) GNU Make

Installing Dependencies

Run npm install to install NPM dependencies. The test environment uses the explicit jsdom development dependency.

Starting the Application

Run npm run dev to start Vite and serve the application on localhost:3000.

Running Tests

Run npm test to run the Vitest tests

Production Build

Run npm run build to build the application and npm run serve to preview it. Vite 8 and React plugin 6 must be upgraded together. The build keeps the previous ES2020, Chrome 87, Edge 88, Firefox 78, and Safari 14 targets explicitly configured.

Error Boundaries

Error fallbacks accept any thrown value. Errors retain their message and expandable stack trace. Strings and objects with a message display that message. Other values display "Unknown error".
