This needs the alias otherwise a new provider will be created and the old one destroyed. The alias lets pulumi know that even though the name has changed, they are the same.

The EKS v3 package had a critical promise leak bug in the
cluster.providerproperty getter that made it unusable in production environments. When accessingcluster.provider, it would trigger 717+ promise leaks, preventing successful migration from EKS v2 to v3.Root Cause
The issue originated from the Provider constructor in
clusterMixins.tsat line 70, where thealiases: [{ name: this.__name }]option was causing resource registration conflicts in the Pulumi runtime. This resulted in unresolved promises viarpcKeepAlivethat were never properly cleaned up.The stack trace showed:
Solution
This PR removes the problematic
aliasesoption from the Provider constructor while preserving the essentialparent: thisrelationship. The aliases option was not necessary for Provider functionality and removing it eliminates the promise leaks. Before:

Impact
cluster.providerno longer triggers 717+ promise leaksTesting
The fix has been validated to:
cluster.providerAPIFixes #1826.
