Walkthrough
Undo and redo now preserve each sheet’s current view mode when restoring workbook history. The changes add regression tests for history operations and command-sequence replay.
Changes: Sheet view mode history
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Preserve views during undo and redo crates/engine/src/cmd/edit.rs, crates/engine/src/cmd/extra.rs, crates/engine/src/tests.rs
Undo and redo retain current sheet view modes when restoring history. Sheet matching handles names and qualifying renames. Tests cover edits, sheet changes, and a clean document after redo.
Canonicalize and replay view commands crates/engine/tests/it/command_sequence_fuzz.rs
Workbook canonicalization resets sheet view modes to Normal. A test replays Page Break Preview and Page Layout commands for sheet 0 and asserts neither replay fails.
The undo/redo behavior has direct regression tests. Command replay still would not detect a lost view after an edit undo, but this bounded coverage gap does not block merging.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to ce35c
The change is confined to workbook history and display preferences. No new access or privilege path was identified. Remaining uncertainty concerns matching sheets across grouped structural operations, rather than demonstrated loss of workbook content or isolation.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The demonstrated effect is within the document undergoing undo or redo: workbook views, history snapshots and saved-state identity. The inspected delta establishes no additional credential, service or environment authority.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The normal command API requires exclusive mutable Session access, and undo/redo availability rejects an active document with an open undo group. These controls serialize the inspected restoration path and prevent undoing an unfinished group through that API.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
inferred — A completed undo group can combine structural changes into one snapshot pair. Rename-plus-reorder or replacement can therefore defeat the helper's name/index identity assumption. The supported consequence is incorrect view continuity; content recovery or security-control loss was not demonstrated, and external grouping consumers remain unverified.

Each case contains one non-undoable view command, so the replay has no edit to undo. Adding an edit before the view command is not sufficient by itself: end_episode compares through workbook_diff, which resets every sheet's view to SheetViewMode::Normal. Use a test path that undoes the edit and directly inspects the sheet's view mode before canonicalization.

On the nitpick (test view-mode persistence across an edit undo): checking it directly showed a real defect. Undo of an earlier edit put back the view the sheet had in the snapshot (set A1, Page Break Preview, undo: the sheet was in Normal again). Fixed in e873ad9: undo and redo keep each sheet's current view (extra::keep_view_modes), with undo_and_redo_keep_each_sheets_view asserting the view directly after undo and redo (and after undoing a rename and a new sheet), and a_view_kept_through_redo_doesnt_make_the_saved_workbook_dirty. Both fail without the change. The fuzz reset in canonical() stays (1f771cd), since the view switch itself is still not undone.

… Preview)
A sheet's view is not an undo step: Excel doesn't undo a switch between
Normal, Page Layout and Page Break Preview, and view.normal,
view.pageLayout and view.pageBreakPreview are noundo here. But undo and
redo swap in a whole snapshot of the workbook, so undoing an earlier edit
put back the view the sheet had then: set A1, switch to Page Break
Preview, undo, and the sheet was in Normal again (redo switched it back).
Undo and redo now keep each sheet's current view (extra::keep_view_modes),
as they already keep the Watch Window list, carrying it through each step
of a multi-step undo or redo. Sheets are matched by name; while a rename
is undone or redone, by position under the name the restored snapshot
doesn't have. A view kept this way doesn't make a saved
workbook dirty, as set_view doesn't.
Tests: undo and redo with each view, undoing a rename and a new sheet, a
rename and a new sheet undone and redone with steps: 2, and redo back to
the saved state staying clean. Each fails without the change (the view
reverted to Normal).
…undo difference
The view commands are not undo steps and don't mark the workbook changed (as in
Excel), so undoing everything leaves a sheet's view mode as it is. The undo
check now resets the view mode with the other view state before comparing.
Seed 177 (`view.pageBreakPreview` on the sales sample) failed the [undo]
invariant without this.
