MigrateToGit
For quite a while, the Prost repository was hosted as a mercurial repository at bitbucket. After bitbucket's decision to end mercurial support, we decided to convert the repository to git and migrate it to github. We took this chance to tidy up the repository and get rid of parts of the history that do no longer play a role (thereby shrinking the repository to approximately half its size).
If you have never used Prost or you have used Prost but never developed anything in the code base yourself, this doesn't affect you at all. Simply follow the instructions on how to download and install PROST.
If you have a local fork that derived from the Prost mercurial repository and you would like to make that fork compatible with the new git repository (e.g., to update your work with the latest changes in the master branch), please follow the following instruction:
-
Use hg convert to tidy up the author history and delete some files from the repository and its history:
hg convert --authormap authormap --filemap filemap /path/to/fork /path/to/tidy/fork
where authormap and filemap are files that can be obtained by clicking on the respective links.
-
Now you need to convert the cleaned up mercurial fork to git. We used the built in "import" mechanism of github to do the conversion by first pushing the fork to a new repository at bitbucket
hg push ssh://hg@bitbucket.org/tkeller/prost-tidy
and then importing it to a new repo here at github. Alternatives that also run locally are the git fast export extension or the mercurial hg git extension.
-
After the conversion, your converted git repository should be compatible with the Prost master repository, and you can pull the latest changes into your repo with
git pull git@github.com:prost-planner/prost.git
